Newnan’s Raymond Beno picked Tech over childhood favorite

Newnan’s Raymond Beno, who committed to Georgia Tech, said it was a recent offer by his childhood favorite college that increased his recruiting stakes.
The 6-foot-2, 285-pounder was offered by Miami about three weeks ago. Beno closely followed the Hurricanes while his family lived in Tampa, Fla., for the first 11 years of his life.
“When Miami offered me, yes, I think it made some other schools take notice,” said Beno.
Beno said he turned down Miami because he felt like Tech was the “perfect fit” for him. He took a tour of Tech’s campus last week, and was offered after a long conversation with coach Paul Johnson. When Beno returned to watch the Yellow Jackets practice on Wednesday, he revealed his decision to Johnson before workouts.
“My family and friends, they are all real happy for me,” Beno said. “Georgia Tech is where I needed to be.”
He was considering Tech among 12 offers, including Wake Forest and Southern Miss. Also, Georgia, Florida State, West Virginia and Auburn had not offered but have displayed heavy interest. Beno, however, said recruiting is over.
“I’m 100-percent committed to Georgia Tech,” Beno said. “That’s where I am going, and I’m excited about it.”

The best offensive lineman in the state of GA. Todd when you are considering the super 11 ask Mark Richt what he thinks of Beno. Headline Beno dominates at DAWG NIGHT. Ask Super 11 for 2007 Toby Jackson of Griffin how good Beno is as he was dominated by Newnan last year. Ask All-Stater Nick Craig of Carrollton how good Beno is as he was pancaked by Beno twice last year. Ask Ole Miss Coaching staff how good Beno is as he dominated last weekend at Ole Miss. I can’t wait to Beno meet Lagrange Defensive Ends on Aug 29. God Bless

Ray Beno is an outstanding young man. He is a leader at his school and on his team. He is what every collegiate athlete should be. I am sure he will do well at Tech. Other schools that awakened to him late missed on a truly fine football player.

Best lineman in the state? You’ve got to be kidding. He doesn’t stake up anywhere close to Chris Burnette, Johnnie Farms, or Dallas Lee. He’s a great player, but let’s not get carried away.

Have you seen this kid play. Not ever giving up a sack in high school. I have seen Chris, Johnnie and Dallas play. I think Dallas is awesome but I’m telling you what I see on film and in person Beno is the best. I think his partner on Newnan OL Roydrell Alford is as good as Chris and Johnnie Farms. Don’t get carried away with rivals rankings. Aug 29 Newnan plays Lagrange who have a DE who rank in the top 100 in Ga and is a 3 star. Watch as Beno dominate him just like he dominated Toby last year who was a 4 star.

I am Ray’s Dad, and as a father, I couldn’t be more proud of my son. The epitomy of a champion, both on and off the field, he will excel at GA Tech and will prove all the naysayers (John Lunsford) wrong. I look forward to a very exciting season for him and the Newnan Cougars this year, as they strive for a State Championship.
