Luella DB Roderick Sweeting is Tech’s 12th commitment
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Categories
For the second day in a row, one of the state’s top prospects committed to Georgia Tech before its practice session.
Luella defensive back Roderick Sweeting told Tech coach Paul Johnson on Thursday that he intends to sign with the Yellow Jackets. On Wednesday, Newnan offensive lineman Raymond Beno also committed before Tech’s practice.
Sweeting is perhaps Tech’s most celebrated 2009 commitment thus far. He is ranked as the nation’s No. 20 cornerback by Scout, and picked the Yellow Jackets over Ohio State, Alabama, Clemson, Tennessee and Auburn, among 17 offers.
The 6-foot, 175-pounder said he spent most of Thursday touring Tech’s campus with his parents and finished it by committing. Said Sweeting: “I just felt great about Georgia Tech. They have been recruiting me very hard and showing a lot of love. Coach Johnson seemed excited. He told me I was always at the top of his list of cornerbacks.”
Luella coach Paul Burgdorf said Tech is getting a versatile player in Sweeting.
“I think in the ACC he could be looked at as a corner or safety,” he said. “He could also return kicks and punts. For us [at Luella], we’ve even got a quarterback package for him. He’s got great size and loves to hit. Georgia Tech is getting a pretty good student and a pretty good football player.”

Congratulations to this young man on getting a scholarship and going to a fine school. His future is as bright and promising as the work he puts in and the good decisions that he makes. Many schools would have been a good choice, but I believe he has made a great choice considering the entire package. Nothing bad about any other schools - congratulations on a fine choice!

Welcome to Tech Roderick and Raymond, glad to have you join what will be a Top 10 class. Good luck for a great senior season, be sure to hit the books and the weights this year. And most importantly, be ready to beat UGAg every year!!!

Paddy I am thinking. Only someone who is not could be so dumb as to think that GT will have a top 10 class or beat UGA every year. History bears that out. Only a GT fan could suffer delusions of such gigantic proportions.

Dawgs scored 82 points against Fla. & Auburn last year and will be bigger , faster and better this year and a year older. I like our chances of out scoring Tech this year.

What a despicable bunch we have at UGA - or is it our walk-up fans out there on the blog? Your unadulturated racism is pathetic. You need to take long hard look at our campus - OUR team, before you throw stones at Tech. Give Tech credit where credit is due. It will provide a better level of competition don’t you think? Isn’t that what sports is about? Competing? Not hurling racial attacks.

It’s UGA supporting idiots typical of the one’s posting on this blog that have always prevented me from being a true fan of my alma mater. I refuse to lump myself in with the UGA sidewalk fans who probably do not even have a GED —let alone a high school diploma.
I was a Tech fan before graduating from UGA and I remain a Tech fan after. Some of you dawg fans are simply pathetic losers with a capital ‘L’ painted on the front of your cinder-block leveled single-wide rusty trailer.

Here it comes again, the bull pups are just plain scared. the future is getting worse for you guys every day. tech has made up more ground on ugay this year than in gailey’s entire stint at tech. girls, let me say this, and listen good, the hell hole in athens is on borrowed time. the future at tech is very and i mean very bright. the day gailey left the playing field became even again. Reap the whirlwind girls cause the series as you know it is not the same any more. fire back at me bit@hes, i love to hear you cry.

Thanks, Desmond. You’re right. These kids haven’t done anything to deserve the shots they are taking. Congrats to UGAG on their ranking today-now that was hard to say! But we sure would like a chance to knock off a No. 1 at the end of the season. Good luck, boys, at Tech. Let’s turn this program around! Go Jackets!

Gadawg, please go crawl back under your rock, child.
Anyway, Techmites, congrats on Sweeting, he is really a top guy. Not sure how Beno is one of the state’s top prospects, but whatever. That gives you three really good recruits (Sweeting, Luallen & Lanier), definitely talent to build a program around. You should be competitive in a couple of years in the ACC.

Good whine Chad!! Just giving you bug girls a taste of your own medicine. We have to put up with your sniveling blog comments every day about Gt being better this year , we’ll I believe it., you can’t be any worse. And as far as your references to UGA fans I would say it’s humorous and quite delusional. I will however leave you with this, I get to be greeted by my GT graduate neighbor every time I visit Wal-mart, make that ex-neighbor, his House is under foreclosure

Anyone seen my man bra? Don’t put me down simply because I didn’t gragiate from UGA and because I weigh a trey plus. I hold down a very important position working for the State of Georgia. I have promoted idiots like myself for years and have a BS in butt sniffing and licking from Ga State. See, if you have no talent, you just find the right butt. Has worked for me and my incompetent entourage of idiots my whole pathetic career. Anyone smell that? I think its butt.

Desmond, UGA Class of 89 - Thank you for representing your school with some class and character. It’s idiots like these guys that cause everyone to dislike the UGA fans so much. I think the earlier post summed it up though, the idiot UGA fans that post things like this are the sidewalk fans. They are the bandwagon fans who not only never got into UGA, but also can’t afford the tickets and have never been to Athens. All schools have the sidewalk fans when you’re on top. It’s good to see a few respectable UGA fans out there.

So how soon do you think some “non-Tech fan” will post on this and ignorantly talk trash about how we didn’t recruit against any “real powers”. Obviously Paul Johnson has shown that if there is a player he really wants to get that fits his system, he’s got a very good chance of recruiting him no matter who else he’s going up against!

I guess I’m a semi-sidewalk Jacket fan from little old LaGrange, but I did graduate from the oldest private school of higher learning in the state, and have attended some games. I congratulate the Jackets on a fine recruiting year so far, and it very well could be a top ten team. I think Paul Johnson understands recruiting and the game itself, and definitely has something for you Dawg fans in the future! Go Jackets!!!

GADAWG… Do you think it is funny that someone’s house is under foreclosure? Especially a graduate student from a more prestigious school than UGA??? Do you realize how hard students have to study and devote time to school work at GT? Who cares if he works at Wal-mart as a greeter. At least he has a job and is trying.
You are ignorant. A redneck. Don’t you have a yard to landscape, sod, or cut?

GT67 GT has lots of ‘Couch and TV’ fans because we (alumni) get scattered all over the country after we graduate. This has a lot to do with GT engineering degrees being highly valued in a lot of places and a lot of our students today being foreign. If you live in Texas or California, it is difficult to make it back to Atlanta for football… While I share UGA Class of 89’s disgust with the slack-jawed sidewalk fans that pollute what COULD be a classy program that I wouldn’t mind cheering for (except for one game a year), GT is going to have to attract more non-alumni to the games if we ever want to fill up the stadium consistently.

The last regular season game will be so sweet for us tech fans….uga will be undefeated and ranked number 1 in the country going into the game….Tech will not be ranked…UGAY will lose this game 66 to 0, falling completely out of the top 20, Forever….die dogs die.

I wish GT all the luck in the world …got both family and friends who have gone there. Their FB program is rough equivalent to what UGA’s was when Richt came in … stagnant and no longer consistent top 20. I hope PJ can get y’all back on track .. but realistically will take a coupla years before you can compete again in a serious way. Got to find some early success … let that snowball some good recruiting classes … and just build.
