UGA among finalists for Carver-Columbus LB Jones

In the eyes of many, Carver-Columbus linebacker Jarvis Jones is the most coveted player in Georgia in the class of 2009.

Earlier this week, the 6-foot-4, 220-pound recruit indicated that he plans to sign a letter of intent in February with Clemson, Florida, Georgia, LSU, Miami, Texas or Southern Cal.

But the drama surrounding Jones’ recruitment will likely continue over the next five to six months.

Carver coach Dell McGee said earlier today he’d be surprised if his prized linebacker commits in the foreseeable future.

“I think it will be in January when he commits, unless he just gets a conviction over a certain school,” McGee said.

Jones’ most recent visit was to LSU earlier this month.

“He said it was nice,” McGee said. “It was just like every other D1 school: nice campus and the coaching staff was ok.

“He could see himself playing there.”

Jones, who is rated as the fourth-best outside linebacker in the nation and the 39th-overall prospect in the country by Scout.com, may see his stock rise even more this fall.

“Last season was just his first year starting at linebacker,” McGee said. “This year, I think he’ll see things a lot faster and be more comfortable and know what to expect.

“I think you’ll see a big improvement, especially from a leadership standpoint.”

Go where your heart is leading you….can’t go wrong with any of those schools. I just hope the decision turns out to be UGA. We would love to have you. Good Luck!

I thought UGA had indicated that all of their linebacker slots were filled.

Coach - all but one, and they’re holding out for Jones. If he signs elsewhere, then they’ll use the scholly on someone else.

They will hold 2 scholarships until the last day for: Jarvis Jones and Branden Smith.

Jarvis has four great schools to pick from— but here’s hoping he will say: GO DAWGS! Georgia is in a position to win more than one national championship— right now!

Hopefully Jarvis won’t get cute and try to prolong his recruitment to up the drama for himself. It’s a dangerous ploy that backfired on several talented young men last year. Look at the programs..see where you’d be the most comfortable fit..take a look at the school’s tradition..your position coach..the head coach..talk with your parents and them pull the trigger on the school of your choice..just don’t play cute..it’ll reflect badly on you with the staff, your future teammates, and the fans.

The Gators need big, fast, intelligent linebackers, Jarvis. The Swamp is a great place to play college football. You’ll get a great education, too. Great teammates, lots of great looking girls, overall one of the best college athletic programs in the country. The Gators will be needing a replacement for Brandon Spikes after he goes to the NFL this year. You can be next in line!

hum, no Ga. Tech, Ga. State, or APP St. These second tier regional schools offer some pretty dang exciting football, playing in front of 25,000 or so and appearing on ESPN 4 every now and then. Never been to Boise in mid December, it’s really pretty darn charming and all for a bowl game. That potato farm is nice, even though there is no crop that time of year.

This HS coach is doing Jones a disservice by making comments such as “He said it was nice,…It was just like every other D1 school: nice campus and the coaching staff was ok.” —As others have mentioned, if Jones waits too long AND his coach makes it sound as if he is not really interested… he could end up losing out. Most of the schools mentioned have almost filled there scholarship spots.

Jarvis, represent the great state in which you live and appreciate. UGA is the best school for you. We’re starting a good long run and you can be a big part of it! Good Luck!

All UGA’s linebacker slots are full, huh? I doubt it, but they already made that mistake with Omar Hunter. That’s a mistake woof woof woof fans will regret for the next few years. Come on down JJ!

UGA will not hold out a scholarship until February for Jarvis Jones. First come first serve. They only have about 10 scholarships left and at least two of them will go to highly rated wide receivers and another two to top rated DB’s.

UGA has already said they have a scholly w/Jarvis’s name on it, until he commits. Word out of Columbus is he has been a georgia lean. I hope so!

Keep Georgia on your mind. Recruiting has changed dramatically in the last couple years. You now not only have to worry about yourself but other great players that may choose UGA ahead of you. Your time frame has grown somewhat smaller to make a choice. You must consider your recruiting class will be a smaller size because of this years limited spaces. Whatever you decide, go with your heart and good luck. We all hope you stay in Georgia.

J.J., think about how close Athens is to your friends and family! All of the schools you are interested in all have great facilities and girls and all the trimmings. But UGA is the closest you your home and UGA puts out some great linebackers. Your future will best be served in Athens.Thank you if you come and good luck if you go elsewhere, Sam
