UGA-bound QB Mettenberger assesses effort at Elite 11 camp

Georgia was well represented in last week’s Elite 11 quarterback camp in Laguna Beach, Calif. Future Bulldogs Zach Mettenberger of Oconee County and Aaron Murray of Plant Senior High in Tampa, Fla. took part in the activities.

“It went really well,” Mettenberger said. “I definitely learned competition is a good thing.

“I learned a lot about coverage, especially deep coverages, and a lot of footwork stuff that I need help in.”

Mettenberger crossed paths with Georgia junior quarterback Matthew Stafford during the camp.

“He was there as a counselor,” Mettenberger said. “He mainly told me about coverage stuff.”

Mettenberger is done with camps and visits for the summer. The first day of class at Oconee County is Aug. 6. That’s the same day the Warriors go into full pads.

But the 6-foot-5 QB still hopes to continue finding time to make the short drive from Watkinsville to Athens on a regular basis.

“I’ve been going over there and working out at Butts-Mehre,” said Mettenberger, who is scheduled to enroll at UGA in January.

Mettenberger is rated as the 10th-best class of 2009 quarterback in the nation by Scout.com. Murray is listed as the fourth-best QB.

Nothing is written in stone at this point with the UGA QB commits. Hope both make it to campus, but won’t be surprised if one went elsewhere.

Either way, sounds like both Murray and Metenberger have a chance to be special.

Really gives praise to both Richt and Bobo that UGA has become a place that the elite QBs in the country are considering.

Go Dawgs!

Tarheel,

Yeah they should have had a UNC QB there for the “this is where you go if you suck” sessions. Its like a Scared Straight program. They have the UNC QB showing pictures of himself home at Christmas and New Years every year of his career.

Tarheels commenting in here? Does UNC still have a football team? Wait, now that I think about it, did they ever? The ball is oblong, douchebag

Neither of these guys, Mettenburger or Murray, will renege on their pledge to UGA. Mett is a local product out of Oconee County that grew up on the Bulldogs; his mother also works as a secretary for the university. He isn’t going anywhere else. As for Murray, if you had been following his recruitment, he is a class act, acts more like a 28-year-old than an 18-year-old. He has stated numerous times he’s sticking with his commitment to Coach Richt and co. He made his decision a few months ago and will not waiver one bit; he and his parents LOVED Athens and Coach Richt. He will sign with the Dawgs, bet the house. Both will be Dawgs, and, along with Logan Gray, will compete to be the heir to Stafford’s thrown. It’s great to be a Georgia Bulldawg.

The “G” stands for Georgia, you big dummy.

Tarheel, did you stumble on this site by accident? The only things you guys know about is hoops, tobacco and moonshine, so go take a big smoke or drink (or both) and come back during basketball season.

This douchebag who calls himself “the truth” is such a miserable person that he delights in spending his time telling others how stupid they are because their opinions don’t coincide with his. You’re probably a Gator and, in that case, it probably really chaps your a* that UGA has finished in the top 7 in 4 of Richt’s 7 seasons. That being the case and with the type of talent we are bringing in, why would a top 5-10 annual finish be unreasonable? No one cares what you think here, slug.

Greg, you may be right, this “truth” could be a Gator. However, the most condescending fans are those from GT. Let’s assume, however, that “truth” is indeed a gator. UF is ranked the #1 party school in the nation and their students rank #1 as those who study the least. Looks like “truth” will have to settle on a career of selling suntan lotion at a tiki hut by a hotel pool.

Nobody has mentioned that Murray was named MVP of the elite 11 camp. It should be quite the battle to replace Stafford when his time is up. Logan Gray is supposed to be good too.

Once again, rednecks, I’ll spell it out for you. Most QB’s that are D1 pass for more yards in 4 games that Mettenberger did in a full season last yr. 1300 yds, 13 td’s and 11 int’s does not equate to an Elite 11 qb……….at any level. OC will suck, just like him.

I like the fact that MS was a counselor. What better way the learn stuff than to have to teach it to someone else?

Stafford will get some lessons of his own in Death Valley this year. He’s a nice guy, hope he makes it out of Tiger stadium in one piece. Doubtful though.

Rick. All Stafford will have to do in the LSwho gasme is hand-off to Moreno and King and then just stand back and watch them run from one end of the field to the other scoring touchdowns through LSwho’s weak, slow and porous defence. Stafford will come out of the game untouched. HAHAHAHAHAHAHA.

You Dawgs have been licking your butts too much. No Show Moreno will be whimpering like a puppy when the LSU Defense gets done with him. Your backup RB better be prepared to take some lumps too. I heard there was an egging incident at Coach Richt’s house the other night and Stafford is the main suspect because no eggs actually hit the coach’s house.

Now Rick, you silly little kitty, you have a right to be proud of your swampycats but Swamprat told you the truth about this years teams.

What he left out is the depth and strength that is behind Moreno and King; and wait til you get a look at AJ Green (and all the rest of a strong receiver corps,) streaking down the field towards your end zone.

LSU will be good but UGA will still prevail this year.

You naughty dawg fans are going to get a lashing this year by Paul Johnson. TECH is going to burst forth with victory after victory with our new coach leading the way.

Ajax Green or whatever his name is screaming down the field won’t do ya’ll any good with “Egg Thrower” Stafford flat on his back every play. Even if he manages to get a pass off, he can’t hit his targets…see the egg throwing incident above. LOL

The reason top players like Aaron and Zack are selecting Georgia is simple: the Dawgs have the whole package— and Richt is a stand-up coach. This IS the big time!

You gotta love the green-eyed negativity from Tech and LSU— to name two. LSU stands for “Lotsa Students Unemployable.” As for Tech, around 2018 or so, UGA will have to find a year-ending opponent to replace Tech— since Tech new archrival will be Georgia State. That game will sell out when it is played— in the Dome!

The only ‘green’ you “puppies” are gonna see is the turf….time and time again.

No Show and the Egg Thrower! Ha! Ha!

We are LSU! Be very afraid you Mutts!
