Highly-regarded OL Jackson commits to Ga. Tech
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Categories
Will Jackson, a 6-foot-4, 280-pound guard for Farragut High in Knoxville, Tenn., committed to Georgia Tech on Saturday.
He chose the Jackets during an on-campus visit.
“The entire time Georgia Tech has stuck out to me,” Jackson told Rivals.com. “Basically, I sat down and kind of re-evaluated everything. I looked at the coaches. And Coach [Paul] Johnson has won everywhere he’s been, so I knew the coaches would be fine.
“There’s a lot of stability because it’s a new staff. The facilities and living conditions are great, the weight room, everything. They’re even making improvements to make it even better.
“The academics are great as well. Georgia Tech is one of the top schools in the country. It’s only two and a half hours away from my house. It was just everything. There’s not one thing I didn’t like about the program.”
Jackson, who is considered the 24th-best guard in the nation by Rivals.com and Scout.com, picked the Jackets over Kentucky, N.C. State, Ole Miss, Vanderbilt and Wake Forest.
He is Tech’s 10th commitment in the class of 2009.

Good choice young man ! Once this ‘O’ is installed and perfected…Tech is going to have a lot of college folks rethinking their offensive strategies.
Most will cast doubt on it, but those are the ones who worry the most about this being a successful D1 offense. Might as well take their shots while it’s in the installation phase. In a year or two it will be too late.
Welcome aboard !

Best wishes to Will and hopes that his college experience at Tech is a great one.
There is a new day brewing with Tech football … the kids are just as smart and hard working as ever, but the coaches now insist on a whole team concept … … … … and continue not to tolerate behaviors which land players (by the score, year end and out)in jail, or charged with misdemeanors, or sent to a Virginia military academy for academic re-cycling.

Good luck Will and good job staff. It may surprise some but Wheeler and Gardner were two star recruits according to one ajc web site regarding Tech. But what is interesting is Johnson started in the mid 30’s nationally on his first recruiting class only being on the job with staff for a little over 30 days. This current crop already has some 4 stars and many 3 stars and half so far are ESPN top 150 watch list players incredible. 2007 was a great class but it’s been years since Tech has strung together several good years. There are several players interested and will be once the season starts. And don’t discount these transfers in the paper today as they are excellent or either can play a role on the team. Watched some of the Tech/Clemson 1999 replay on sports south and the Fridge was running some wishbone and wing action. Looking back the talent on offense was unbelievable with Hamilton at QB, Wilder at FB, Gregory at Tb, Dez White, Watkins and Campbell at Wr’s. It was the number 1 offense in the country that year and fun the watch. Now the D was a different story. Tech always seems to have a one star or two star player and turn them up one or two stars. Curry did it. Ross did it. O’leary did it some and Gailey did it. So the recruiting hype is fun to read but take it with a grain of salt.

Congrats CPJ and staff. And congrats to you Will. This coach is getting the players that fit his system and want a Ga Tech education. Seems to me a good combination. Maybe not a bunch of 5 star rankings but good solid Div I players that desire to be in a program that stresses team play and winning over whatever comes second. Nothing is more satisfying to fans and team members than being part of a new winning tradition. Good luck until you play the Dawgs.

It certainly does remind me of someone. Georgia Tech! The felony drug dealing, heroin overdosing, rape capital of college football. Felony U is you. Not to mention the all time leading academic fraud king of the entire college football universe. How many ineligible illegal lack of institutionally controlled dummies was it? 11? Storied history of football excellence Old Dawg 55? The mites are barely over .500 since 1970. Storied history of football ineptitude is more like it. Storied programs don’t have to give away hotdogs and throw in the tickets to put meat in the seats. The only storied history at the trade school is the sorry state of the fan support from the undisputedly worst fans in college football. When you can’t put 40,000 fans in Grant’s Tomb you can’t brag about a damn thing. You sorry excuses for football fans need to go over to South Carolina and take how to be a fan lessons.

We played in an ACC title game and our fan support was so poor that the Gator Bowl prayed that we would never be back in Jacksonville. That is pitiful. All I heard was win and we will come and then all you loud mouthed no shows came up with every excuse in the book not to make a 3 hour drive to a title game. Some of you need to just STFU and put up. Otherwise accept that you are one of the prime reasons that we are sliding deeper and deeper into the ACC cellar.

I’m neutral in this fight but as an outsider looking in its clear to me that Tech does have a much more storied history than UGA. Tech has 5 national titles, UGA 1. Tech also won as many or more SEC titles from what I understand than Georgia. And Tech hasn’t even been in the SEC in 40 or 50 years. Tech has one of the most legendary coaches in Bobby Dodd. While Dooley was above average he is not in the same league as Bobby Dodd. Georgia has only been a nationally competitive program twice, for about 3 years in the early 80s and over the last 5 years Georgia has been very good. Other than that UGA is a middle tier program. Lastly, Tech won the most recent national championship of the 2 which was in 1991. UGA won its only title in 1980 28 years ago. I think overall UGA will be the better recognized program for years to come because of the easier academic requirements for athletes. But Tech hired the perfect coach. A coach running a triple option offense can often beat teams with superior talent because of their style of ball. Shorten the game with a running offense. Throw an offensive style at em that the opponent will only see once a year and which is hard to simulate with one week of practice. Tech will definitely be winning some games against UGA in the very near future. Right now Dawg fans are laughing at Tech but I think you are going to have very serious problems with them. It will be like playing West Virginia and we all know how that went.

Thanks bama for telling the uga fans how it is. Most of them think college football started in 2002 and have no concept of class or tradition. I can’t wait until Johnson gets a couple of recruiting classes under his belt with the linemen and running backs he hand picks. It’s a long slow process but we’ll be there soon enough. Looking forward to playing Bama again in 2010.

So a vastly superior football team with 2 weeks to prepare and that has also seen it once already (Ga. Southern) is going to have problems with an offense that only won 4 games against teams with a winning record the entire time PJ was at Navy has something to worry about?

Most of gt’s commitments are 3rd tier athletes at best. But somehow through their honeycomb glasses the yecksters see players that fit Paul Johnson’s so called system. I seriously doubt what worked at Georgia Southern and Navy will work in the ACC. Oh well, I guess it something the nerds can buzz about during the summer months before reality sets in.

all I have to say is wait until the games are played, won, or lost. Then let’s take up all our time to talk smack about the 08 season and how CPJ or MR will do. We know MR has his system down to a science and is on cruise control. Give CPJ a few years to duplicate OR crash and burn. But please quit knocking him down before he’s coached a full season. All this smack talking by GT and UGA fans is a mere byproduct of fear. Yes, fear. GT fears losing its 8th straight to MR and UGA fears that CPJ’s offense will catch on cause major problems down the road. Otherwise, all you UGA fans wouldn’t even bother to post negative things on this post. Protest my thoughts all you want but deep inside, you are just a little bit worried that GT may have finally hired the “turn around coach” to end this dreadful losing streak. Sh-t happens….just ask MR after he wins the NC game. Sh-t happens. In all fairness, you guys should win it all. But please stop discounting CPJ and the Jackets b/c of the previous regime. People fear change…People fear the Jackets.

Nobody fears the Jackets Ramblin Rack. And by the way chad, GT will be lucky to win 5 games this year. All I’m hearing is give PJ a few years. How many losses before GT “gets there”. And if history bears itself out, if PJ does win he’ll be gone on the 1st thing smokin out of there. If he doesn’t he’ll just be another carcass in that graveyard for coaches you run over there on North Avenue. With the depth and talent that you DON’T have at GT you’ll be right down there with Duke within 2 years. You better get really good really fast on defense mites. You won’t win many games scoring less than 14 per in a major conference. What does it tell you when a guy only beats 4 teams with a winning record in 8 years. Even you psuedo geniouses at Tech can do that math.

If you break down Paul Johnson’s record since he became the head coach at Navy in 2002, a disturbing fact begins to surface. Thirty-two of those 44 wins came from teams that won four or less games in a season. If you add in the four wins from non Div 1A teams, that accounts for 36 of his 44 wins. Since he has been at Navy, he has beaten only four Div 1A teams with winning records and only one of those had more than 7 wins. If you look at the 29 loses, 10 came from teams with non winning records plus two came from non Div 1A teams.
