Parkview star chooses Auburn
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Categories
Parkview two-sport star Brandon Jacobs has given a verbal commitment to attend Auburn on a football scholarship. The rising senior running back, who rushed for 881 yards and seven touchdowns and had 224 receiving yards and two scores as a junior, chose Auburn over interested schools such as Wake Forest and UAB.
“A lot of my family lives down at Auburn,” said Jacobs. “The fact that they’ll get to watch all our games and I’ll be close to home (influenced the decision).”
Jacobs had a breakout season in baseball as well, leading the Region 8-AAAAA runner-up Panthers in on-base percentage (.554); batting average (.500, 45-for-90) and RBIs (37). His status as a professional baseball prospect has risen in the past year and Parkview coach Chan Brown, who also coaches Jacobs on the Panthers’ summer team, thinks his star outfielder might have a choice to make soon.
“I think it’s good for him,” said Brown of Jacobs’ decision to go to Auburn. “(But) he’s become a big-time baseball prospect. We’ll see what happens with baseball.”
“I haven’t talked about baseball (with Auburn),” Jacobs said. “I’ll probably bring it up soon.”

With the amount of RB’s Eddie Gran has put into the NFL It amazes me that there are people who still think he can’t judge talent. I have no doubt this kid will be good.

I coached Brandon in baseball and football when he was was younger and you could tell then he was going to be a good one. He is an extremely bright kid, very talented and is a good catch for Auburn. He is deceptively fast and is big enough to run you over. He can play linebacker or RB, so you never know what Auburn has in mind for him.
Congratulations Brandon! Well deserved!

I find it hilarious while at the same time sad that an Alabama fan would be talking smack to an Auburn recruit.
Congrats Brandon, Auburn has been one of the most consistently high performing teams in the country. You’re gonna love it!

JW, I don’t see any reference to the University of Auburn. Considering you reading error, you must be a graduate. Anyway, most people don’t associate the words “Auburn” and “University.”
He’ll do well in Gooberville.

By the jackass, Wake is preseason ranked in the top 25. Amazing for a school that actually graduates its players and keeps them out of prison. And whose coach isn’t a total POS.

This is at least a couple of days old as far as the story goes. I’m glad the AJC is reporting it, but you are way behind! Also, UGA has landed a new committment today - a DB from out of state. I’m not going to post everything about him here (so people will check back to read when the AJC does finally post it:), but it really does take a long time for this news source to post recruiting news for local athletes and local schools. You don’t even have to be a paying member of some scouting services to receive an e-mail update. It seems like a good reporter would want to have that so that they will know at least as fast as the average sportsfan!

BamaJama,
Do you realize how desperate you look being critical of an Auburn commitment when the coaching staff that recruited him has dominated your precious Tide for 6 consecutive years?
Go meet with your $4 million a year boy and help him figure out how he is going to break the 11 year streak of scoreless 1st quarters in the Iron Bowl (clueless preparation), and devise a way that your team can get through an Iron Bowl without having to execute an onside kick to have a chance to win.
Once that happens and Alabama achieves any semblance of relevance again, then we’ll talk.

In the interest of accuracy, your boys have scored in the first quarter the last 11 years in the Iron Bowl. They just haven’t scored a touchdown in the first quarter since 1996. Speaks volumes.

AU runs the cleanest program in the SEC.
Players graduate and don’t get arrested.

Coach Tubby will keep you on the straight and narrow, but he will also befriend you and treat you well. I bet if you take a survey on the idiots who dish out insults on blogs about certain universities and football programs, 99% didn’t even attend or graduate from a college. I would like to believe that actual students and graduates of these fine universities know how to banter with good-natured “ribbing” and leave the deplorable insults for the arm-chair coaches, the wanna-be football players and the people who wished their D averages in high school could have led to a slim chance of attending a community college. Whatever you do, you should NEVER personally attack a recruit for his decision. That’s just tacky! They are just kids. Let ‘em along.

From the way the way the UGAY idiots are posting here, you’d never guess that they are supposed to be ranked preseason #1. Why do they get so upset when a player… any player… chooses a rival school. They’ve been sorry for so long that they just can’t stop acting like spoiled, little ignorant rednecks.

You idiots need to stop! I can’t believe someone’s here criticizing a 17-year old’s quote in the newspaper. Flat pitiful. Get a life and get off HS blogs picking on kids.
From someone who’s actually seen the young man play, he’s a tough runner who blocks and catches the ball well out of the backfield. Shares the name (Brandon Jacobs) with a former Auburn back who plays for the Super Bowl champ NY Giants. The kid isn’t as big, but he has a straight-up style like his namesake. Aside from that, Parkview has sent several players to Auburn in the last few years, so Jacobs shouldn’t be uncomfortable. He could probably help the baseball team too…

War Eagle Brandon. It’s easy to determine who the Neck Fans follow. BamaNecks have been patroling media sources to bad mouth Auburn committments. It is amazing what the fear of 7,8,9 etc. has on this crew of losers. What a classless bunch. Also, Alabama’s REC has been throwing the cash around, giving cars away. This can’t be good. The Alabama media and Mike Slive knows this and are afraid to do a thing about it. I expect the AJC to bring out the coruption soon and to get MS out of the commissioners office real soon. You made a wise choice with Auburn.

War Eagle Brandon! Hope you enjoy Auburn as much as I did. Got my Engineering Degree in ‘94 and it DEFINITELY “pays the bills” nowadays. You’ll never regret the decision. Kudo’s to Phil (Bama Fan) for throwing some common sense on the idiotic, negative comments on a young man’s decision on where he wants to play college football and get an education. I wish everyone would ignore such comments and let the idiots just fade into the background. We all know the odds that they’ve ever set foot on a college campus Monday to Friday are ZERO and only half of them actually go to the games on Saturday. Again, War Eagle Brandon and if you work as hard as it sounds like you do, you’ll be most successful at Auburn and the rest of your days. WDE
