Alabama, Auburn tops in scholarship stakes for Carver’s Dennis

Carver-Atlanta senior Demond Dennis has scholarship offers from eight schools, but Alabama and Auburn appear to be on the top of his list.

In addition to the two SEC schools, the 5-foot-9, 190-pound running back/cornerback also has received offers from Miami-Ohio, Louisville, Illinois, East Carolina, Alabama-Birmingham and Western Kentucky.

He plans on visiting Alabama, Auburn and Louisville this fall, then make a decision on other visits.

“I like Alabama and Auburn,” said Dennis, who rushed for 1,600 yards and 13 touchdowns despite missing two games with an ankle injury.

Dennis recently was on the Alabama campus for an elite football camp and visited Auburn during a school trip. He said he would like a little more time to tour the campuses before making a decision.

Carver coach Darren Myles said some schools are recruiting Dennis as a cornerback. Dennis started at cornerback as a sophomore at Carver, but switched to running back last season.

“I think he can play running back at the major-college level,” said Myles, who coached current NFL running back Jamal Lewis in high school. “He can put on about 10 more pounds and still have his speed.”

Dennis said he wears No. 24 because he is a fan of former Cadillac Williams, a former Auburn running back.

“I’m just looking to see how I fit into the programs that are recruiting me,” Dennis said. “I’m not ready to commit yet.”

WOW!! Saban & Tubbs battling it out with such “powerhouses” as Miami-OH, ECU, UAB, & W.Ky. Way to go after the top talent guys! Keep it up. Maybe you can get lucky & steal a player away from Vandy.

Obamadawg,

Why must UGA fans put down every other school? Is it envy or is it insecurity in your own school. Mark Richt is classy and so is most of his program. I wish that rubbed off on some of the fans.

Obamadawg….you are right. Clearly Saban and Tuberville are not very good at evaluating talent. I mean, Saban only pulled the #1 class in the country last year and Tubs had an undefeated season in 2004 with 4 first round draft picks. What are these guys doing by not recruiting off of the Scout or Rivals web sites? Fire them both now!

Well…with a name like “obama” dawg, one could not really expect much in the way of intelligent sports discourse…by the way…why didn’t you “write it in spanish” Just because a kid chooses to go to Vandy or any of the other schools mentioned in the story does not undervalue them of their football ability…yea the dogs (dawgs?) look good on paper but that is why they play the games…

From a two degree, 35 year season ticket holder of UGA - I too am repulsed by “would-be” Dawgs vitriolic responses/declarations. My experience is that the great majority of any school’s alumni do not contribute to the “cro-magnon” behavior exhibited on similar blogs. Hopefully, fans of all academic institutions realize such behavior is largely the result of the indivual’s ignorance or stupidity. I would apologize for the UGA “would-be” fans, but I don’t consider them true representatives of UGA.

Bamaboy, learn to respect your elders, I know they teach that Alabama. You’ll get your shot in Athens on 9/27. Then we will see how much smack you talk.

So this fool says Parole Tide. Is this from a UGA fan ignorant of the 7 UGA football players arrested since January? Just curious. And although Bama has had 2 major infractions cases with the NCAA (both in the 90s)the poster somehow forgets that UGA has had 6 major infractions cases brought against it by the NCAA. This ties UGA for 3rd most along with Auburn and a couple of other schools. What was that about people in glass houses throwing rocks?

Thanks Mike. I’m well aware of how to post on these blogs. Thanks for the help though.

bama_12titles, that’s what I was working towards myself. I’m sure he won’t be a Georgia fan once he reads that. It usually works out that way, so they can save face in front of people that they’ll never ever meet. Funny, isn’t it?

TrueDAWG is a much closer rep of UGA fans that I’ve encountered over the years of my living in ATL.. (since ‘80) Pretty classy statements bro. If you guys happen to win on 9/27, I hope yall go all the way.. Roll Tide

Thanks Bamajet; for the nice comments on the UGA fans. I have a great deal of respect for the UofA, myself. People put too much stock in this “star” system. If your recruit doesn’t have 4 to 5 stars; he would be a pine rider @ the larger programs. That’s how our coaches makes their money; by evaluating the talent, going with their gut, offering them a scholly, and coaching them up. Jerry Rice played @ Miss. Valley St. & Terrel Owens played @ what Middle Tenn St.

You know, I don’t have any hatred or love for UGA - but to call their program classy after the ridiculous amount of arrests within their program is just plain stupid.

i guess anybody(obama dawg) who uses this forum to discount any young man’s ability to play the game of footall at anybody’s university is probably has a yellow back; if you respect the game as much as all of the guys who play the game, you would not do that. be like your team: humble and classy.
