GAC LBs Southerland, Mularkey commit to Vanderbilt, North Carolina

Two rising senior linebackers at Greater Atlanta Christian have announced their college choices.

Inside linebacker Blake Southerland has committed to Vanderbilt, while outside linebacker Shane Mularkey has committed to North Carolina.

Southerland, a 6-2, 220-pounder who ranked second on the Spartans in tackles last season, is the brother of Georgia fullback Brannan Southerland. Mularkey, a 6-2, 210-pounder entering his first season at GAC, is the son of Atlanta Falcons offensive coordinator Mike Mularkey.

“They both have been working extremely hard, and we’re very happy for them,” GAC coach Ken Robinson said Wednesday. “Blake grew up in our program. Shane has been here since the beginning of last semester and is doing an incredible job, too.”

Hey, Larry … How about that big, thin receiver at GAC? Is he attracting any looks? He’s only a junior, right? And any news about where Petrino’s kid ended up?

Keep up the good work …

Blake, welcome to Vanderbilt. You are a man of character and I know you’ll make a great Commodore.

Vandy has turned out a number of NFL LBs over the years and several are starters in the league now. I hope you’ll follow in their footsteps.

Nashville is a great place to live and the VU campus is beautiful. The ‘Dores are the only SEC team sharing a town with professional sports— Titans & Predators. You’ll also enjoy running into stars around town like Allan Jackson, etc. I had dinner at a table next to him just a few weeks ago.

I know your family will be in agony when GA & vandy play but it’ll all be in good fun. There’s healthy respect between the Dawgs & ‘Dores.

I hope you’l have a great senior year at GAC and I look forward to seeing you in Black & Gold.

God Bless.
