Future Georgia QBs headed to California camp

Oconee County’s Zach Mettenberger and Aaron Murray of Plant Senior High in Tampa, Fla., a pair of Georgia commits, have been invited to participate in next week’s Elite 11 quarterback camp in Laguna Beach, Calif.

Mettenberger is looking forward to going head-to-head with his future teammate in the prestigious four-day camp that begins on Monday.

“Competition is just part of it,” Mettenberger said. “Aaron and I are friends, and we text on occasion.

“But I kind of approach our situation like [current Georgia quarterbacks Matthew] Stafford and [Joe] Cox. Joe isn’t the starter, but he and Matt are best friends.

“I definitely want to have a friendship with Aaron. [As for playing time,] we’ll see down the road who the coaches like more at the time.”

Mettenberger will return from California next week in time to attend a mini-camp in Athens.

“I’ve already been to Georgia’s two day camp and the one day camp,” he said. “They’re having a nighttime camp on Friday July 18. I’ll be going to that one too.”

Let the kowtowing comments from grown men about two 17 year old boys (who have yet to sit for senior portraits), begin.

I like Aaron’s mobility on the field. Off the field he carries himself very well in interviews and seems to be quite a leader. He could take us far.

Mettenberger is not your man, he will never play a down at UGA, Murray is another story, he will push Gray for playing time when Stafford is gone, which I will be glad>>2-0 against Auburn>>>suxs

Buzz, I know it breaks your heart but I like women. You need to find a fellow Tech fan to share your Mom’s basement with.

We shouldn’t be talking about National Championship being within reach just yet. I don’t think we should overlook having to play LSU in Death Valley. They are loaded again this year. LSU will probably win the West this year too.

Best friends? Best friends? They are lovers. The way they talk about their Talladega Nights! They spoon in public. And you can have Mettenberger. He threw for 10 TD’s, 9 INT’s and about 1,200 yards. Most HS QB’s do that in 3 or 4 games. Can you say Elite 11 bust? I mean without drooling on yourself Dog fans.

If they are both that good, one will jump ship before signing day. Why would both go to the same school? Rick, you are right LSU will be VERY good this year, even without that pile of dung Perriloux! People will be mistaken to overlook this seasoned team. With their lines, it is irrelevant who the QB is.

I heard some rumors that Percy Harvin and Chris Rainey were caught “smoochin” behind a movie theater near the University of Florida campus…Is that really true, Gayturds?

Sounds great..hopefully this will further their game. Does anyone think Stafford will bolt after this year??

Another year in college would improve Stafford’s chances in the NFL. I believe that extra year of maturity is important.

Milton,

He should stay and continue to grow under CMR. Reports say he is in better physical condition as ever. Anyone, who is the young reciever we are looking at out of Virginia?

It’s very simple. If Stafford is predicted to go early in the draft, he’ll follow the money. A lot of it, but not all, will depend on how well UGA does this year. If UGA pulls off the nc, say goodbye to him as well as Knowshon. Good thing we’re loaded with talent to carry on the a* whippings. Logan Gray, Caleb King, Richard Samuel, A.J. Green, and co. will continue the beatdowns. Sic em’ dawgs!

Mettenberger plays for a mediocre team, Oconee County. He had hardly any support last year and will probably have modest numbers this year. LEARN BEFORE YOU SPEAK, JG…

You can knock on Mettenburger all you guys want but remember despite his so called modest numbers he did get invited to the Elite 11 QB camp so my guess is he is pretty talented. Anyone know anything about the CB that recently announced his verbal commitment to UGA. From what I read he is big and fast, thats all.

War Eagle and gatorzone why would you come on a UGA blog and cast doubt on the choices these 2 young men have made. They are 2 great quaterbacks. Could it be that you are jealous and would love to lure one of them away. The competition will make them both better and they will both love being a DAWG.

As an alum of Plant High in Tampa and Georgia Tech, it’s a shame that Murray committed to the UGAY. Murray is clearly one of the premier QBs (over many others including Mettenberger) in the Nation and will emerge as a 5 star QB by the end of the year if he keeps up the hard work. He plays for a premier program with premier talent. Plant is headed to the 7 on 7 sling and shoot National championship( http://www2.tbo.com/content/2008/jul/14/sp-plant-wins-sling-shoot/) and he probably has the best numbers of any other rising junior in the nation. He broke Marve (previous Plant QB) and Tebow’s single season records. 2007 Stats: 201 of 329 passing for 4,013 yards and 51 touchdowns with just seven interceptions. Also rushed 93 times for 932 yards and 12 touchdowns in 13 games.

I have a feeling one these guys will decommit from UGAY before siging day.

As an Alumni of GT and Plant High I have to say that it’s a shame that Murray committed so early to UGA. He is one of the premier QB prospects in the nation playing for one of the nation’s premier programs,(http://www2.tbo.com/content/2008/jul/14/sp-plant-wins-sling-shoot/) with the best numbers of any rising junior in the nation. He also was MVP of the Gainesville and Miami NIKE camps and broke Marve (previous Plant QB) and Tebow’s single season records. 2007 Stats: 201 of 329 passing for 4,013 yards and 51 touchdowns with just seven interceptions. Also rushed 93 times for 932 yards and 12 touchdowns in 13 games.

One of these guys is going to decommit from UGAY!
