Carver DB pencils in visit to Georgia

Georgia coach Mark Richt and his staff hope to welcome Carver’s Darren Myles to Athens two days before the talented safety is scheduled to visit LSU.

“Darren will be going to LSU on the 20th of July and will hang out there a couple of days,” Myles’ father and Carver coach, Darren Myles Sr. said.

“We may pass through and stop at Alabama. And we’re going to try to go back over to Georgia on the 18th.”

The 6-foot-1, 175 pound Myles, who was recently named as the 74th-best player in the class of 2009 by Rivals.com, holds scholarship offers from programs such as Alabama, Auburn, Clemson, Florida, Georgia, Georgia Tech, LSU, Michigan, Notre Dame, Purdue, South Carolina, Tennessee and West Virginia.

But Myles isn’t prepared to declare a frontrunner or top 10 just yet.

“In his mind he may have a [favorite], but he has a couple of other schools he wants to visit,” Myles Sr. said. “For instance, he wants to get up north to Purdue and Notre Dame before school starts back on Aug. 11.”

Myles, who scored a 1,340 on the SAT and 19 on the ACT, has a 2.9 core GPA. He said he’s beginning to enjoy being in the national recruiting spotlight.

“I’m having fun,” he said. “At first I felt some pressure. But I’m learning to enjoy it.”

Ummmmmmm…….a 2.9 GPA, 920 on the SAT, and a 19 on the ACT is not that good. So, he’s a c student that does just ok on tests.

Darren - take your time and visit Bama, LSU, Auburn, Purdue and Notre Dame -do what is right for you.

At the end of the day - I hope you will have a sense of pride after comparing these good universities to your own State’s flag-ship university. I hope that what you will see that UGA has an incredible campus, incredible well rounded athletic dept., a heck of a good football team, an amazing staff that is dedicated to the development of their players - both academically and athletically - and is a program that will be in the national spotlight for several years to come.

However and more important - the academic reputation at UGA is top notch. A top 25 public university - and within 90 minutes drive so your family can visit and watch games….yet far enough from home that you are away and have a sense of being on your own.

Best of luck to you.

Come to UGA so that they can put you in remedial studies (don’t even think that you are going to be put into any kind of worthwhile degree program), live in Butts-Mehre,totally seperated from actual students, where you will learn to play pool and video games with the best of them. Hopefully you will keep your head on straight and not get arrested like many of your teammates.

Hey Lewis Grizzard. Perhaps he could go to GT and get one of those worthwhile Management degrees. Oops, that’s right. You CAN”T get a Management degree from GT. Instead, you get a nice, framable “certificate”.

Do any of you know it all Dawg fans know that Darren Myles, Jr is originally from Louisiana and has plenty of family there? Enough already with the “your state flagship school. His father was born anr raised in Louisiana and the kid was raised in Louisiana. You figure out the rest. **LSU-BCS NATIONAL CHAMPIONS 2003,2007

920 on the SAT? Is that based on the old 1600 scoring basis, or the new 2400 basis? That’s pathetic.

Kid, if you go to UGA in the following years (even after your out of school), you will always be remembered and loved by an entire state. Go somewhere else and you probably just need to moved to that state to be remembered.

This kid should take his time and visit all of these schools. Make the right descision for yourself young man. As far as the test scores and GPA are concerned. I have seen students apply themselves and do really well, at UGA. After not doing well on the SAT. Just remember coach Richt and his staff are class acts. They care about their players as a total person.

Darren:

Yeah, make sure you stop by Bama and pick up some spending cash for your trip from Nick Satan. I am not a LSU fan but Bama is about the easiest SEC school to get into that is not in MS.

Yeah, Ohio State is gonna beat anyone in the SEC in a bowl game - it has never happened and it won’t this year, too. OSU should be banned from any NC games - period (I am not an UGA fan either).

ND and Purdue & others in the Little 10 - are you shying away from playing the top competition? You might as well go to Duke with those great scores and then you can focus on the easiest conference (ACC).

Come to Georgia Tech Darren…With Johnson at the helm and his fabulous staff we will pummel the ACC and SEC foes. Paul Johnson loves to coach hands on. He won’t quit until the cream rises to the top and that’s where he’s going to take us…to the top.

Come to Tech!!!

The young man may not be a genius, but having a top-flight SEC footballer and a star student at the same time is one possible harbinger of the apocalypse. I say he can get as good an education at UGA as he can anywhere else if he really wants it. That’s entirely up to him. His dad seems like a responsible type, so he’s way ahead of the game on that score. I hope he comes to Athens. Oh, and that remark about Ohio State beating the Dawgs for all the marbles - you might be right. Nobody can lose forever! OSU is bound to beat an SEC team someday, if only because of the laws of probability, and they’re certainly overdue.

Roony. If UGA is so bad, where would you suggest he go? GT has their crip “Management” program. Have you ever looked at it? You can’t even earn a degree. All you can “earn” is a certificate. I’m sure it will look cute in a frame, but what will that get you? I recently received a certificate for a free kids meal at Burger King.

Why are some of you putting the kid down for having a 2.9 GPA? If it were a 3.0, I doubt I’d hear as many of you knocking him. Plus, some kids aren’t the greatest test takers so get over the SAT stuff.

The bottom line is he qualifies to go to UGA or any other big time program. I hope he goes to UGA, makes good grades, and becomes a successful citizen. If he doesn’t go to UGA, I still wish him well.

GT’s BOGUS MANAGEMENT PROGRAM

If you’re sick of listening to GT fans talking about their tough academics then go to UGA’s website and Tech’s website. At UGA you can earn “degrees” in a variety of subjects. At Tech you can earn “degrees” in a variety of engineering disciplines. However, if you are in GT’s “Management” program, as most of their athletes are, you’ll notice they can only earn “Certificates”. Academics my rear end! Their athletes are no smarter than the rest, except of course, their teams stink. If you don’t believe me, research their website. It’s a sure thing the AJC will never report on this.

I think it is great that this young man is exploring his options when it comes to different colleges. As for the SAT score…I read the article twice just to make sure I saw it right the first time. It states he scored a 1340 on the SAT..but you guys keep talking about a 920. He has plenty of time to retake the test if he would like. Being the dedicated UGA fan that I am I would love for him to come to Georgia but he needs to make the choice that is best for him. Good luck and don’t let these losers get to you…

Dawgfan I’m certianly happy that you also took the time to read this article. I also saw that the young man scored a 1340. This is well above the minimum SAT score. And what does the SAT prove anyway. Back in the day many of you former ballers were praying for a 700!!.

Allstarsnub had it right. Who cares where the kid goes, he won’t graduate and probably will never start. He’s been coddled and spoon fed by his DADDY/also his coach. What better way to get HYPE for a marginal athlete and student.

Moreover, none of these schools care if a “STUDENT ATHLETE” graduates or not. They, like the alumni, want WINS. Screw the kids future, besides, if he ends up being a real talent don’t think he won’t drop whatever school he is going to like a BAD HABIT to go to the NFL.

IT’S JEST BIDNESS!

Oh Yeah, Tech Sucks.

By Bird Dawg

July 9, 2008 12:22 AM | Link to this

The 1340on his SAT is his score out of 2400. The SAT (back in the day) used to top out at 1600. Thats when many of the old ballers used to pray for a 700. Now an essay portion has been added that is worth 800 points. Math 800, verbal 800, essay 800. If you take away his esay score he DID INDEED make a 920. With his essay he got a 1340. What’s that 420 points for writing?? Wow, he cdould replace Terrence Moore.

920 on math and verbal is about average for an athlete that thinks his JOCK doesn’t stink.
