Hewitt’s star has faded and is nearly extinguished. I am surprised he wasn’t fired after this year. I think the ONLY thing that saved him was that our AD didn’t want to be replacing both the football and basketball coach in the same year. It would look bad on his rap sheet. At any other top school, he would have been dismissed.

Don’t blame Hewitt. Blame those who use college ball as a one year steppng stone. if you start to criticize Hewitt for changing his recruiting strategies, ask yourself…..why? Well, one and dones haven’t gotten him anywhere. So if he loses a 4 or 5 star player b/c he’s focusing on a 3 star player who will stay more than 2 years, so be it. That’s why Hewitt is on the hot seat. The same reason Cremmins was ousted. GT needs to get a grip and take the good w/ the bad. Personally, I think GT is poised for a surprise year. They have a good core returning and Iman Shumpert is the real McCoy.

Frank, you must have never been to Blacksburg? “Cow town” it is not. Next to Pepperdine U. it is one of the most beautiful settings in all of America for a college campus. I must admit, a little tough to get to. But once there it is unbelieveble. An no I am not a Va Tech grad. In fact I graduated from a real “cow town” and ugly campus, Bowling Green St. U., Bowling Green, Ohio.

Who cares - if he wants to go to the wasteland that is VATech’s basketball program then good riddance. You would have never cut it on our campus anyway. Have fun finishing in the bottom of the conference every year instead of competing for ACC championships at Georgia Tech.

If you continue boasting your relative intelligence level, I recommend you learn the proper use of “loose/lose.” For instance, “loose” is used in the context of, just for example, “You’re girlfriend is loose.” “Lose”, on the other hand, is the word that you meant to use. As in, “I feel like a loser because I tried to rag on someone else’s mental prowess but then misspelled/misused “lose.”

guys this was not even one of the top players we are after? look for glen rice of atlanta to commit soon and also an outstanding pg from mcdonough may also being close to committing to paul hewitt. we are in the running for derrick favors the top big man in the nation..tech is in his top four. noel johnson of fayette county and another power forward from georgia are high on the radar as well. we will be fine and look for paul hewitt to close strong with this recruiting class and it will perhaps be the best one in ten years on the flats!! stay positive and keep in mind that we are ready this season to make some noise in the acc!!

Why is everyone making such a big deal of this….. GT is getting plenty of intrest from top recruits across the nation.
Hewit is a good coach and a gret recruiter…and im glad we have him!
Only thing i would change would be among the assistant coaches. (get that old defensive coach that left after 2004 back!!)

GT spends money on football assistant coaches……WHY not spend that $ on a Mens team that actually could win a championship! And that team could be GT Hoops in 2010!

Common we ALL know because of the BCS setup GT would never get in the big game over USC, Texas, OU, or the SEC champ!
Even if they had the same or better record!

ACC fan has a great point. Why has Ga. Tech not offered Ari Stewart but offered and signed Brian Oliver, a 2009 small forward rated far lower than Ari Stewart by every recruiting service. Ari is also a local kid which Tech has done a miserable job of recruiting locally. For example from the class of 2008 recruiting class Tech didn’t even offer or try to recruit Dequan Jones who became a five-star prospect who signed with Miami. Since when does Miami out-recruit Tech in basketball? They couldn’t lock up Al-Farouq Aminu of Norcross or (going further in the state) Tony Woods, both of whom signed with Wake Forest. They let 5-star recruit Chris Singleton slip away to Florida State. Tony Mitchell went to Bama. Wesley Witherspoon wound up at Memphis. Ray Willis went to Oklahoma. Trey Thompkins went to UGA. Ralph Sampson III went to Minnesota. That’s just naming a few recruits Tech wiffed on this past year. What’s up? soon they’ll get out-recruited by Georgia State.

Nobody gives a good dam if the kid goes to VPISU (thats Virginia Polytechnical Institute and State University, pronounced Vi-pi-sue, for all you Georgia grads). The fact is that Hewitt is DONE after this year if he doesn’t produce. Only a matter of time.

I guess the kid wants to follow in the thug footsteps of the VICK brother Criminals.

VPISU is trying to become what FSU was in the early 90’s. Their player personnel is certainly holding up their end of the bargain.

Hey, Tech basketball sucks anyway. We need to focus on Fotball. We need to focus on beating Georgia and making it to the ACC title game.

Look, even little DUKE is doing everything they can to make a football impact by hiring David Cutcliffe. I wish we could have hired him rather than CPJ. Cutcliffe is a much better recruiter. Look what he did as OC at Tenn. (Peyton Manning, Jamal Lewis) and Ole Miss (Eli Manning), He actually stole Eli from Tenn.

Basketball - Hewitt is yesterdays news. Chuck Dowdle could do a better job of coaching than hewitt.

What is all the hoopla about anyway? If the AJC would have done some research they would have figured out that Tech did not even offer this kid.

If you take the 2 minutes to check you would see he was only offered by VT and East Carolina. Looking at that, picking VT is not a hard choice.

GT FAN, Not sure why GT did not get some of the guys you talked about us not getting, but there is one, Singleton, that I saw play numerous time before he transfered to Dunwoody. The kid was plain lazy, stuck on himself, and probably transfered because he thought he should be a player/coach or maybe just the coach. Look up his bi-o.

Atkins played on a Class 4A championship team as a sophomore, when he was the most valuable player in the state final, according to Tucker coach James Hartry, who said that Atkins averaged 24.3 points, 12 rebounds, four assists and two blocked shots as a junior.

“He had offers from everybody,” Hartry said, “Coach [Paul] Hewitt from Georgia Tech called me as recently as yesterday, just wanting to know what he had done wrong, why he hadn’t landed the kid. He wanted to polish up on his recruiting because he had done something wrong.

GT has a bunch of different recruiting options at Manny’s position. While he sounds like a solid player, I feel confident that we will land a great recruiting class even without him. Good luck to Manny in his college career.
