Two new commitments for Tech
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Categories
Jay Finch, a 6-foot-4, 265-pound offensive lineman from Kennesaw Mountain and Jefferson County defensive end Chris Crenshaw committed to Georgia Tech this weekend following a camp on Tech’s campus on Saturday.
Finch chose the Jackets over scholarship offers from Central Florida, East Carolina, Louisville, Middle Tennessee State, N.C. State and Ole Miss.
Tech offered Crenshaw following an impressive workout in front of the Jackets’ coaching staff on Saturday. He quickly accepted the offer.
“[Tech defensive line] coach [Giff] Smith told me if I did good at the camp, I would get an offer,” the 6-foot-2, 237-pound Crenshaw said. “It’s a great academic school. I am real proud.”
Jefferson County coach J.B. Arnold said Crenshaw has the physical tools needed to be successful on the next level.
“His best football is in front of him,” Arnold said. “His potential is unreal. He played at 210 pounds for us last year. He’s put on 25 pounds and it really hasn’t slowed him down.
“He’s 6-2 and has an 81-inch wingspan. His frame is going to do nothing but fill out.”
Tech’s close proximity to his home in Louisville was a major factor in his decision to pick the Jackets over an offer from Mississippi State.
“My mom said a two-hour ride for her [to Atlanta] is better than a seven-hour ride [to Mississippi State],” Crenshaw said.

Well, glad we could steal Crenshaw from Miss. St. We took Finch away from the powerhouses at Central Florida, East Carolina, and Middle Tenn. St. Middle Tennessee is going to hate us considering we stole Jaybo from them last year. Cmon Giff!

Real group of winning schools there. In other news UGA takes recruits from Florida, LSU, and Oklahoma. Have fun going 7-5 next year, you nerds.

Uh….”Herschel Talker” as a Dawg fan maybe we oughta lighten up on the “who was offered by who?” Do you remember names like Roland, Jennings, T. Davis….? These were players that didn’t have the All American make up, but played great for us! Congrats to Tech! Not all Dawg fans think that offer sheets mean you cant play! I just hope as a True Dawg Fan they fall flat against us. But if Johnson thinks they can play then more power to ya!

What cox said, plus add a few walkons that turned out pretty good. Congrats to the young men from this old dawg, and good luck except for that one weekend per year when its time to let the Big Dawg EAT!!!!!

Michael Cox thanks for being sensible. I think I trust CPJ’s eye for talent over some idiot like Hershel Talker any day. How many player’s has he ever evaluated?

* You ladies poking fun of the colleges that have offered scholarships to these young men… got a question for you… why dont you list the colleges that offered YOU a scholarship, better yet, tell us where you played… or even better, how far did you make it past high school in terms of education?*

Umm…How many stars did David Pollack have coming out of HS ? That aside, CPJ knows what he’s getting. It may take a couple or a few years, but I believe CPJ is assembling a group of kids who fit this system. Time will tell. Tech fans need to be patient and give the man time. Dawg fans with negative comments about HS kids need to STFU and worry about your upcoming schedule.

Hey Herschel, which of your personalities is that you’re using today? Why don’t you worry about how to get the cash to those recruits through the bag man Rodney Garner. Word is that this past one was the most expensive class in UGA History. The Dawg fans want that championship and by god they want it now.

GT69, you were GT67 yesterday. Why don’t you use an appropriate moniker, like “grade school homo”? you never saw a college campus, much less GT or even UGA.

Here is the most profane statement of all — Ga Tech SUCKS that’s all there is to say. Do you YellerSkeeters even appreciate the fact there is a major donation made every year by UGA alums/fans to GaTech? We buy a significant portion of your season tickets every year just to see the UGA v. GT (NERDS) game. It has to be even more humiliating for you qveers since you actually took seats out of your stadium, and still can’t sell-out to your own fan base (they just don’t care).
Paul Johnson will only have Bill Curry as a potential rival, can’t wait to play them in the dome —STATE will field a team that spanks the YellerSkeeters. It is like one long nightmare for the NERDS! And it keeps getting worse & worse & … to see the DAWGS crowned National Champions (our 6th) at the end of the year … somebody wake ‘em up they cry!

Word has it that Doug Flutie was interested in Tech but no offer came. So recruiting is an inact science. The DE kid is suppose to be a good prospect and this othe OL sounds good. Anytime NCST with O’brien as HC and Ole Miss with Houston Nutt as coach and the Cardinals offer then this kid has potential. And let’s don’t forget SR. season has’nt even started yet. Check out ESPN.com recruiting page and one can see all the prospects Tech is considering. They are doing the picking it seems. A bunch of athletes want to play for Johnson and this scheme it appears.

You Can tell that middle school is out for the summer GT is for Nancy Boys is allowed to stay up late and is posting at 11:00pm. Must be a thrill for a 13 year old to stay up that late and be allowed to play on his computer although mom and dad probably won’t be amused if the see the profanity he is using on this blog, especially the super cool, neato way he spells qveers. That is obviously the way cool and super fun way of spelling for soon to be seventh graders. At any rate, I hope all the Tech recruits fall flat at athletics, lose every sport they compete in but, get a good education and have a successful life away from sports.

To 11:22PM poster: I’ll tell you what’s profane (“foul-mouthed and blasphemous”) ….. you are ! Surely you have a dictionary somewhere in that trailer. Look behind the empty PBR cans and rolling papers on the second shelf.
THWG - Now that’s profound !
Surfrider: I agree wholeheartedly.

It’s amazing to me how many totally stupid comments there are on this blog. If you don’t have anything to say about football, do us all a favor and don’t post. We don’t need to hear “Tech Sucks”, “UGA is Gay”, nah nah nah nah nah anymore.
To Finch and Crenshway, good luck guys! Hope you play great football at Tech. Take advantage of your opportunities and get your degree from Tech. You’ll be glad you did.

GT69 must be a UGA fan in drag. Any college can give players offers. You think those colleges don’t extend offers to players that go to UGA? Also, you seem to always leave out the ‘other’ schools listed such as Louisville, NC State, Ole Miss and Central Florida - all respectable schools.
And, I loved Crenshaw’s comment, “It’s a great academic school. I am real proud.” You think anyone going to UGA would say that? We are getting really great players and I am excited.
Only 5 months until the huge upset in Athens! Be prepared!

Damn those Jackets…stealing all of our recruits…
Hey John, the Georgia Tech ‘academics for athletes are so superior’ myth is tired…nobody buys it any longer after Hamilton, Marbury, Joe Burns…etc…it’s a crutch that holds no water. Your coaches would take every last single one of the kids on the UGA commitment list at the moment over any of the players Tech has committed. You know it, I know it…
Oh, and if you really think Tech will play within three touchdowns of UGA in Athens this year, have another of sip of kool-aid. You’re in for a long, tough season.

Lets ease up on the Jackets this morning Dawgs! They know it will be a tough adjustment this year, however Paul Johnson is an outstanding coach where ever he has been and I would not expect anything less at GT. Not saying they will start kicking our butts but we will soon respect them more!

1 the national title is going to south cal or the university of ohio state #2 this kids have a year of high school to improve and if u keep looking at techs recruit this year and last you can see that they are building for speed and we see that it is hard for big time programs to beat a team with speed.( go watch Appalachian state or Oregon vs Michigan.By GT45

I’ll say this for CPJ…he now gets a chance to recruit instead of taking what was given to him at Navy. If he was successful at Navy coaching those young men up — who were recruited by no one to play football but answered the call to serve our country, then he should be succesful putting an exciting product on the field at Tech. He actually gets to recruit! Regardless if these kids are recruited by Middle TN State or Central Florida, they ARE being recruited so they must have enough talent to get noticed. If CPJ skills of the past hold true and he can coach up these guys — who should be of a higher caliber than those at Navy, then the Jackets have hope. As a true Dawg Fan, I want the Jackets to be competitive. Our non-conference schedule (and the BCS) depends on the Jackets having a decent RPI.

BigDawg,
Hallelujah! Someone that can talk football instead of juvenile BS.
I want Tech and UGA both to win until they play each other, than I’m pulling for Tech. CPJ has a tough row to hoe, but you’re right, at least he gets to recruit. I’m not sure Tech or any other ACC team can compete consistently in football with the giant State universities in the SEC anymore (UGA, LSU, Florida, Tennessee)but maybe now it will be higher level f-ball on the Flats. CPJ seems like a quality hire. It will take some time though.

Dawg fans keep me laughing, if your 7 and 0, I will then start to respect you….Otherwise your blowing hot air…did you win the SEC last year? Are you going to win this year? highly doubtful…CPJ forged a winner with no talent at Navy, in 3 years GT will not be a “automatic” for the Dawgs….or a ACC doormat….good things come to those who wait…

Welcome to all four of the fine young men who have just signed on with the Yellow Jackets. We are proud to have you join the extended family.
Congratulations to your families and coaches for their efforts and to each of you for the hard work on the field and the classrooms.
Thanks to all the posters who have the class to congratulate these young men, and to those who don’t, all I have to say is that if you ever have a son or daughter who is ever fortunate to be in this position, I just hope they are not put through this same disrespect you are showing these same fine young men. It is classless and uncalled for.

Let’s be honest, what has Georgia really accomplished with all of the talent they bring in? In the southeast they are behind FLA & LSU. TENN, AUB and FLA.ST and their equals. MIA will be on the rise again too. This year will tell alot about GA, but it won’t be a NC! Look for ALA, AUB & FLA to beat the teeth out of them!

Unfortunately for us Jackets fans, what they’ve accomplished is kicking our asses for seven years straight, and it looks like eights on the way.
Give the devil it’s due. They play in a tougher conference. I wouldn’t include Florida State and Miami in the conversation if your talking recent results either.

Finch is a three star recruit, he can play. Congrats. I too apologize for all the immature posts from adolescent boobs claiming to be UGA fans. The best way to tell a UGA grad from a UGA fan is the content of their posts.
Right now Tech has 2 four star recruits and 6 three star (per rivals). That truly is not bad for this time of year. It’s a very good start anyway.

Congrats to you CPJ. You are making a game out of it. Keep up the good, hard work. I know you can coach. You are going to have a team most schools don’t want any part of. Don’t know if it will be next year, but you have been left with some very fine football players from Chan Gailey. They just need some serious motivation.
