South Carolina offers Heritage TE
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Categories
Heritage-Conyers tight end Justin Jones has four scholarship offers, a high number for a player who has played football for only three years.
But South Carolina, UAB, East Carolina and Akron have offered in the past month because they like Jones’ size (6-foot-8, 250 pounds) and potential. Clemson, Central Florida, Alabama and Kentucky also are recruiting him.
“I’m surprised, honored and glad I’m getting this kind of attention,” said Jones, who didn’t start until he was a junior and caught 11 passes last season, five for touchdowns. Â
“My freshman season was my first year of playing football in my life, and I didn’t play varsity until my junior year. Â I never expected to be getting offers to college. Â It’s just a blessing that’s come down.”
Jones’ stock has risen because of his work at the Nike combine in Atlanta in March and the Under Armour camp in Auburn in May. He was named to the all-combine team at both.
“If I had to compare myself to anybody, I’m told I play more like Leonard Pope [the 6-8 former Georgia tight end, now in the NFL],” Jones said. “I’m more the receiving tight end. I can catch the ball, and I can run. I can go up for the jump ball.”
Jones also plays on Heritage’s basketball team and twice had more than 20 rebounds in a game and averaged 14 points.
Jones said he’d like to play in the SEC. Though South Carolina is the only SEC school to offer, Jones wouldn’t call the Gamecocks his leader because he’s never visited the school and expects more offers. Â “Clemson told me I was really high on their list,” Jones said. “South Carolina said that and then they offered. I think I’m expecting an offer from Alabama . They said they really like me and that all they want me to go is come up and let coach [Nick] Saban see me move.”

South Carolina offers the kid along with UAB, East Carolina, and Akron. Not surprising that they aren’t the leader. Any three of those other schools would be a better choice.

If UGA hasn’t offered, then he must not really be a good prospect … UAB, East Carolina, Acorn?!?
To the AJC: Quit posting so many articles on prospects that don’t matter! Just report the news … don’t create it! Just keep the Football posts limited to UGA, and its prospects. If UGA hasn’t offered, I don’t want to read about it.
UGA is going to win the NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP this year, our 6th in Football (1927, ‘42, ‘46, ‘68, ‘80)! We really shouldn’t even have to play the season, just hand us that crystal ball! Go Dawgs!!
Haters, “Pogue Mahone” (kiss my arse)!

Pogue! I know you are posting this for attention. But from your attitude, your a$$ won’t be hard to find, because it must be big as the Double Wide you live in! I hope you are really a Tech fan, because real Dawg Fans are not so stupid! Good luck to the kid, no matter who is recruiting him.

Michelle Cox, I do not recall writing anything inflammatory about you, should have used my ESP — knowing that there are always those ignorant individuals who post comments on the comments, not the article at hand. What ignorance! Commenting on the commentary … YOU ARE A Little BEEATCH!
And since you are so interested in my buttocks, you most definitely are a homosexual, nothing against them, but it must be embarrassing to the Queer Nation to have you as a card carrying member.

Yes, it is true, I raised Michael. He never was able to form opinions of his own. I think that is why he posts comments about other people’s comments. And probably why he wears women’s clothing.
Grow up! Both of you! Go Dawgs!

Oh my god! I just realized my last name … well, it is a bit embarrassing, the association with the other word. But it is much better than my maiden name: Peeniz. No wonder people snicker at us!

Pogue, though I risk being flamed by you, I must admit that I have been laughing all day at your posts. And I too wish the AJC would report the news, not create it!
Keep the postings coming. Gooooo Dawgs!

Pogue, You are what gives UGA Football a bad name. But, I must admit I actually agree with you … very funny (and true).
UGA can’t take them all, especially this year, more selective than ever. So, he might be a good prospect, but you are right that he is not “great” … they would have offered if he was “great.”
Too bad some “little” people feel it necessary to attack you for expressing your opinion.

Note to AJC and all readers: If the University of Georgia is not listed among the schools recruiting the player, you can safely assume that he isn’t worth the ink. This fact greatly irritates Tech fans, who may have to go another decade before beating UGA again, but it’s true.

I enjoy seeing the names of kids and who is recruiting them on here. I don’t enjoy the childish comments. Report the info on the student-athlete and eliminate the comments section.
