Two new offers for Henry County receiver

The scholarship offers continue to pour in for Henry County receiver Jamal Patterson.

“I was just offered by West Virginia on Thursday and Rutgers on Friday,” Patterson told Scout.com.

The 6-foot-2, 188-pound junior has offers from nearly every major college football power with the exception of Georgia.

None of the Dogs’ 11 current commits in the Class of 2009 were recruited at receiver.

Georgia does, however, continue to await word on whether receivers Marlon Brown of Harding Academy in Memphis, Tenn., Andre Debose of Seminole High in Sanford, Fla., and/or Nu’keese Richardson of Pahokee High in Pahokee, Fla. will play college football in Athens.

Patterson’s offers are from the likes of Alabama, Auburn, Clemson, Florida, Florida State, Georgia Tech, Kentucky, LSU, Michigan, North Carolina, N.C. State, Oregon, South Carolina and Wake Forest.

Maybe HE doesn’t want to play for UGA.

Of course he wants to play for UGA, they just haven’t offered because he’s not as good as the others.

What are his SAT’s like? Does he meet the minimum?

Gunner.. I think if he has offers from Georgia Tech and Wake Forest he meets the SAT minimum..LOL..

T, not necessarily. gt and all other major programs make it just as easy as the rest when it comes to athletes getting in school. It’s absoloutely no harder for a wake or gt player to get in as opposed to UGA or anyone else. The minimum for a non-athlete is MUCH higher. Does anyone have the details on this because it seems like a few years ago I read somewhere that the minimum was only like 750 or so for athletes whereas a typical student’s minimum is well over that. In other words, if you can play ball, you can get in with a low SAT score and take custodial engineering at gt!

I have seen many tech commits not make the grades to actually go but I would say that he is a 2nd tier player and that is the reason he will not get an offer from the dawgs. Just does not seem to be up to par with the other receivers that are left out there. Also I think that the ACT minimum is around 19 and that the SAT score is around 850 for admission. If you do not meet those requirements you can enroll as a partial qualifier. If you can play ball it is very easy to get into any school.

P Dawg,

Tech’s entrance requirements, while easier for athletes than non-athletes, are more difficult than most Division I programs. Tech requires a higher SAT score and additional high school math, science, and foreign language courses than most. You can confirm that with the GTAA, as well as any independent writer who covers the school.

As for major, it’s ironic for someone with football players majoring in child and family development and recreation and leisure studies to ridicule other football teams majors. Management is about as ‘easy’ as you can get at Tech. Ironic because it’s equivalent is one of the most difficult programs at Georgia and has very few football players. By the way, Tech’s management program is higher rated than Georgia’s business school.

Oh, and killer nickname/mascot (taken from Yale) and logo (taken from Green Bay Packers) from the brain trust in Athens.

The kid also got an offer from Rutgers. Their academic standards are also very high, and they don’t recruit borderline kids.

Take this from someone who got to teach and knows Patterson and the quality kid he is….

Jamal can qualify academically anywhere….ANYWHERE in the U.S.

He is a very hard worker and obviously has the tools to succeed at wherever he decides to go.

My impressions are that he’d LOVE to go to UGA (and I’m a Tech fan) but the evil empire apparently is LOADED with blue chip WR’s there in the coming future. Jamal will have no problem getting the HOPE scholarship if he stay’s in-state.

No matter where he chooses, that school will be blessed to have him! Best wishes with you recruiting process Jam!

I wish my fellow Georgia fans would not engage in these childish academic p** contests with Tech fans. My degree is no less worthy because 100 or so football players out of 30,000 students have an easier path. I could care less. It has nothing to do with me. The only effect it has on me is making my fall Saturday’s a hell of alot more fun than a Tech fan’s, particularly the last Saturday in November. I think that’s all that is relevant here.

For “K” who was addressing “PDAWG”, Though I do bleed Old Gold, you need to know whereof you speak before trashing our flagship schools mascot. UGa did not STEAL the bulldog from the YALIES. Actually, Georgia persuaded Abraham Baldwin, formerly president of Yale University, to move to Athens to be the President of the First Land Grant University in the country. President Baldwin said he would come but….One of his contingencies on coming to Georgia was that UGa take as their mascot “The Bulldog”. Uga said Yes and Abe Baldwin said Yes, and the rest is History. Additionally, even though Georgia was the Bulldogs, they used a Goat for years until they found someone who had a bulldog they could use.

As for the Georgia “G”, Georgia started using the football shaped G a full 2 years BEFORE the Greenbay Packers. Know your history “K”. You only make us Techies look ignorant and jealous. Maybe we are a little bit jealous.

Has anyone read or otherwise heard anything from that ICON of the BLOGOSPHERE Zeb McCluskey??? He is a die hard dawg fan and you’ll know him by his pungent vocabulary and desire to tell others how to “BEHAVE”

I heard he’s a referee for midnight basketball in one of the Augusta, Ga projects at night after he washes out the garbage trucks for WM.

His most outstanding physical characteristic is that he is bald. He has a tattoo on top of his head that says “Insert Brains Here”. If you happen to hear from him, or if you see this BEAR of a man lumbering around North Augusta, tell him to get back on the UGA Blog

He particularly needs to BLAWG me -

Congratulations, Jamal, you have earned every offer made, both from your efforts on the field and in the classroom. Don’t let any of the comments on these blogs detract you from your accomplishments. I know your parents are proud, and you should be too.

Also, congratulations to the coaches for doing such a fine job with these young men. You have taught them well, and kept them focused on academics at the same time, something too many programs have forgotten.

We always thought the Georgia “G” came before that NFL teams “G”. Isn’t that “G” trademarked? Many years ago UGA sued Georgetown for using UGA’s “Bulldog”, which is also trademarked.

Two points: 1. In 1905 the GT football team’s official mascot was a short-haired, square-jawed, real, live bulldog adorned in yellow and white streamers. After the bulldog ripped off his colors, a 12/10/1905 AJC article mentioned, for the first time “yellow jackets” (per book entitled “Clean Old-Fashioned Hate” by Bill Cromartie). 2. Any WR good enough to have pro aspirations would be foolish to consider GT. The defections prove this.

UGA fans, Why are you so arrogant w/ a top high school player in your own state? I’ve heard this on so many recruits: “Well, he’s not good enough to go to UGA so he’s not going to get a scholarship.”.

I really hope Jamal(and other recruits) has read these idiotic posts and says NO THANK YOU to UGA. I hope he goes to a rival school and whoops up on UGA. When was the last time UGA took in a WR and taught him how to catch?

Jamal, Go to a place where you’re wanted…NOT UGA! You have offers from better schools anyway: LSU/UF/UM..and even SCAR which did beat UGA last year in Athen. Go look at the tape and you’ll see why UGA’s WRs never reach their potential…coaching!

Sorry Pago and YELLOWJACKET,

While officially designated the ‘flagship’, you shouldn’t run around parading this title when you are far from the best university in the state.

As for the mascot, Abraham Baldwin must have been rather prophetic to agree to come to UGA in the 1700’s only after UGA accepted the bulldog mascot. I say prophetic because Yale’s mascot was not chosen until 1889, over 100 years after UGA’s founding. Nice fabricated story though. The bulldog was chosen by UGA in 1920, a few years after old Abe headed south.

And from numerous sources, including the UGA website … The oval “G” logo was created in 1961 by Packers equipment manager George “Dad” Braisher. The team actually used a number of different logos prior to 1961, but the “G” is the only logo that has ever appeared on the helmet. Although the Packers have granted limited permission to other organizations to utilize a similar logo, notably the University of Georgia and Grambling State University, the Packers hold the trademark for it. Adopted in 1964, the Georgia “G”- though different in design and color- was similar to the Packer’s “G”. Then Georgia head coach Vince Dooley thought it best to clear the use of Georgia’s new emblem with the Packers.

Jamal is a great kid with EXCELLENT grades. He is a Georgia Certificate of Merit winner and from what I hear he holds an offer from Harvard - so grades are NOT why UGA is overlooking him. Like somebody else said, maybe Jamal doesn’t want to play at UGA. I mean look at the politics that UGA plays when recruiting - Zach M. SUKS but he got a schollie… I guess we can say “he got it from his momma!” Anyway, Jamal will be successful his Senior year in HS and he WILL play early in College, and he WILL play in the NFL (if he wants to). He has the drive and talent to do whatever he wants to do… Congratulations Jamal!!

Hey Stump Hump, thanks for calling me an ICON. And no, I do not resemble your cerebral interpretation of me. Sorry about the ranting. I’m really not like that, but I sometimes let certain comments get to me, which is stupid. I will really . try to be better in the future. Man, dam, I think I’m turning into #39. Alt, Cuz, Shane, help me out here guys. P Dawg and reservoir, Kali, feel free to chime in.

Stump, of course I’m a huge dawg fan. Why would I not be if I’m on here?? I got scolded by YELLOWJACKET REQUIRMENT but I have to trudge on. I will not be quieted by a Tech fan. I’ve always said I have no problem with Tech people, but if I’m cornered, this dawg bites.

But really, what can you do? If I came off the wrong way, I apologize. I guess it comes from years of breaking up and calming domestic disputes. I get so tired of the nastiness on here. But you know what, so be it. Feel free to take any shots at me. I’ve got pretty thick skin, and unfortunatly a thick cranium as well.

I enjoy reading all your blogs. That’s why a lot of us have been here for a long time. If I have pizzed people off, it wasn’t intended. And Stump, I’ll try and keep the ranting to a miinium.

Jamal - READ THIS EXCERPT… The Head Ball Coach continued his ways upon arriving at USC. In just two seasons, Sidney Rice went from a three-star recruit to an All-American candidate, catching 142 passes and 23 touchdowns in two seasons. After his sophomore year he went pro, being drafted in the 2nd round by the Minnesota Vikings. The Gamecocks have another sure-fire draftee after the 2008 year in Kenny McKinley, who Spurrier and his son Steve Jr. have transformed from high-school quarterback to All-SEC wide receiver.

Here’s a list of WRs Spurrier has placed: Ike Hilliard – 1st round (7) Travis Taylor – 1st round (10) Reidel Anthony – 1st round (16) Jabar Gaffney – 2nd round (33) Jacquez Green – 2nd round (34) Taylor Jacobs – 2nd round (44)
Sidney Rice – 2nd round (44) Reche Caldwell – 2nd round (48) Ernie Mills – 3rd round (73) Darrell Jackson – 3rd round (80) Travis McGriff – 3rd round (93) Willie Jackson – 4th round (109) Jack Jackson – 4th round (116) Harrison Houston – 5th round (138) Chris Doering – 6th round (185)

Horse crap. It is much harder to get into Tech than UGA. All students at Tech MUST pasd two semesters of Calculus. At UGA, if you are a good football player, all that is required of you is that you be able to write your name; with a crayon.

Not good enough to play at UGA ? I guess Calvin Johnson wasn’t either nor was NFL draftees Dustin Keller from Purdue, Caldwell from Florida, Doucet from LSU, and Manningham from Michigan. I guess we all can’t be Fred (it just went through my hands) Gibsons.
