NC State 14th school to offer Washington DB/WR Smith

Washington defensive back and wide receiver Branden Smith received his 14th college scholarship offer a few days before the beginning of spring practice.

The 5-foot-10, 180-pound Smith added North Carolina State to a growing list of college offers that include Georgia Tech and Georgia. The Bulldogs were the first school to offer Smith, who missed the first week of spring drills because of his track commitment.

At last weekend’s GHSA state track meet in Jefferson, Smith finished runner-up in the 100 meters with a time of 10.5 seconds. He helped anchor the 400-relay team to a victory.

Smith said he will make his college choice in midseason, and he hasn’t narrowed his list.

“Right now, I want to get ready for the season,” Smith said. “I’m happy with the offers I have so far, but I haven’t started thinking about where I’m going.”

On Monday, a few college coaches stopped by practice to watch the Bulldogs work out. Current Georgia free safety Reshad Jones, a former all-state and Super 11 player at Washington, visited with the Washington coaching staff earlier in the day.

Smith also has offers from West Virginia, Michigan, Arkansas, Ole Miss, Miami, Florida, Alabama, Clemson, Auburn, Maryland and Florida State.

“I like everyone, and I’m pretty open,” Smith said.

Hey, he’s the second best DB/WR in southwest Atlanta. Tell him to come over to Carver to see who’s in the #1 spot.

Go Carver!

I do believe this story and blog is about B Smith and his college recruitment. There has and will continue to be stories and blogs about Myles Jr. Let Branden have his time and enjoy it, it’s not about who’s #1, its about a young man and his choice of where he wants to go to school.

Panther Fan & Stop Hating Watched both workout yesterday and they are impressive. D. Myles Jr. will play safety on the next level with Branden more of a corner. They will matchup against each other (at least Carver and Washington) will play in the fifth game of the season for both.

UGA would love to have both of them…Myles has the size but Smith has the JETS-10.5 100m is smoking!

I remember watching Smith as a freshman against Douglass and Akeem Dent. You could tell then that Smith would be a player. Hope he follows Reshad to Athens.

Myles is a good prospect. Smith is a great one. Not really even all that close.

You know what, they are both good. I never said Smith was not a good player. I’m just a Carver fan. So I’m going to cheer for the home team. In the mean time, Washington isn’t until week 5. Carver has to worry about Mays.

Still, it’s good to see someone from the west end have an opportunity at a free education. Cheers to that!

Braden,

Come to Georgia Tech where Johnson rules! He is a great hands on coach who can mold you into a well chiseled player. Georgia Tech is putting together an offensive scheme that will be impossible to stop.

Go Jackets!!!!!!!!!!

Brandon,

C’mon to Tech where you’re sure to get ZERO catches with our new high school option offense. Whoooo, I’m sure you’re droolin’ over that offer.
