Milton RB commits to Tennessee

Milton junior tailback Toney Williams spent the majority of his childhood in residing in Chattanooga.

But that fact had little to do with his decision to commit to Tennessee on Saturday.

“I moved [to metro Atlanta] in the seventh grade,” Williams said. “But I didn’t really growing up liking any team.

“I just liked the facilities and coaches at Tennessee. I felt real comfortable when I went up there for junior day.”

Williams admitted that the timing of his commitment coincided with the start of spring practice at Milton on Monday.

“Yeah, it did,” he said. “I just wanted to have it out of the way before spring practice started so I can focus on my high school football.”

The 6-foot-1, 230-pound Williams chose the Volunteers over scholarship offers from Arkansas, Georgia Tech, Indiana, Kentucky, Mississippi State, N.C. State and Rutgers.

Does anyone know if Smash Davis from Dillon High School in Texas has any offers from the ACC?

With UGA’s small incoming class this year one would expect gt to make hay in the State. But the allure of a History, Technology, and Society degree from gt and the prospect of playing in Boise just doesn’t quite measure up these days.

Good luck Toney, but Athens is full of RB’s (and every other position) Don’t blame you at all.

Best of luck to you Toney. Glad you chose an SEC school.

Focus on being the best football player you can be….and focus on being the student you can be.

Tennessee, like Georgia and Florida -has installed a Hope scholarship - which has raised the caliber of student and overall learning experience. The goal is to be recognized as a Top 25 Public University - just like Florida and Georgia.

How do I know this - we live in Tennessee - my daughter is graduating this year - received several scholarship offers from UT - including the Hope…….but she is Athens bound!!!!!

Go Dawgs!!!

Pretty funny. A Ugag fan talking academics. He could get his recreation and leisure studies degree from the Athens football factory. Might even learn how many points are scored with a 3 point basket!! The job opportunities would be limitless! THWG

Ga Tech is now to UGA what UT-Chattanooga is to UT-Knoxville.

Maybe wih luck Ga Tech will get one win a decade over UGA.

I’m a Milton and Georgia Tech graduate. I’m sorry he didn’t pick Tech, but he wouldn’t be able to bring the joy to Tech fans by beating Uga like someone who graduated from Milton a couple years before me did, John Dewberry.

UGA DIDN’T OFFER HIM.

It’s just simply amazing. Look at the number of ugag posters here on a story about a local high school player that picked an out-of-state college and didn’t have any connection to ugag at all. Don’t these losers have anything better to do? I guess that they have finished mopping the floor already - the toilets are next!

Hey Just Me… seems the story is listed on the UGA section of this website so wouldn’t it make sense that UGA fans commented?

Now WHY it’s listed here is legitimate question one could ask considering the fact that he was not offered by UGA.

That being said, if he got an offer from UT he must be pretty good.

billinatl….Not to get to technical with you but this section of the ajc.com online is about college recruiting, not specifically UGA.

Congrats Toney ! You’ll enjoy putting spankdowns on the Dawgs. We excel in that. It’ll be all the more sweeter since they didn’t offer.

mdawg-

there is a place in hell for people like you.

No matter how much you dislike Tech, there is no cause to bring such a sensitive and tragic comment into what should be a board congratulating a young man for signing.

History, Technology and Society is called “History” anywhere else. Just the state thinks GT can’t offer it unless it has something technical in the name.

toney is a very good player, one of the best RBs in the state. should have probably started and had more carries over the senior lance martin, but congrats to toney on the commitment.
