Recruiters set sights on Chamblee RB

Assistant coaches and coordinators from Alabama and Georgia Tech are expected to be on hand next week at Chamblee to evaluate junior running back Warren Norman.

“They said they’re going to check me out during spring practice,” the 5-foot-10, 191-pound Norman said.

Norman, who has 4.42 speed in the 40, plans to participate in the Nike camp on Saturday in Tuscaloosa. He was a participant in Sunday’s Under Armour/Scout.com Southeast Elite camp at Auburn.

“It went great,” Norman said. “All of the good players from the south were there. They had great coaches there too.”

The camp at Auburn was proved to be a learning experience for Norman.

“I felt like I got better as far as my footwork and ball carrying,” he said.

Norman, who recently attended Florida State’s spring game, remains confident that his first scholarship offer is forthcoming.

“I’m still being patient,” he said. “I’ve got another year. I’ll just keep working hard and doing everything I need to on the field and it will come to me.”

Hang tough Warren. Just don’t pay attention to all the crap that will be posted on this blog. Check the schools out closely and try to pick the one that fits most closely to your needs. Good luck, and I hope you have a great career, where ever you go.

If GT offers you can be sure that all the worthy rb’s on the team will get more than their share of carries. If you choose GT it will be fun to see you develop over the years. Good Luck and go where you are comfortable.

Go to Tech where Johnson’s offense will surely feature you and get you ready for the NFL  and play in the weak ACC.

Or go to Bama and play for one of the best coaches in all of football and be part of the best program in CFB.

Tough choice…. hahhahhahahahahaha

CHS class of ‘85 - I remember when Chamblee had a football team aren’t they a magnet school? They went to single A and one year the coach was afraid the players were going to get injured by the other teams. I hope this means Chamblee has a good team again.

Chamblee is a magnet HS. But, it is also a regular HS. It is a ‘school within a school.’

I’m a former student and i’ve been really active in following the bulldogs the last couple of years. When roddy jones left for tech last year, no one thought the dogs would be any good. Warren has done an amazing job at filling the shoes of roddy jones. With the team that chamblee built in the last years, i believe that this kid really gonna catch the eyes of many recruiters. chamblee is returning most of thier o-line, so the same guys who helped warren build his succes will be there to help him better his succes. GO DAWGS!

Note to Jeff Hood: AJ McCarron star QB commits to Bama

May 3, 2008

His many reasons for picking the Tide AJ McCarron will wear number 10 for the Crimson Tide. When AJ McCarron informed Nick Saban that he was ready to commit to the Crimson Tide, one of the first things Saban did was explain to McCarron the legacy of great quarterbacks who have worn the number 12 for Alabama, legends like Pat Trammel, Joe Namath and Kenny Stabler. Saban told McCarron that he could “follow in the shoes of greatness” by wearing 12.

McCarron told Saban he’d rather make greatness than follow in it.

“I told him that I’ve always worn 10, and that I wanted to be myself,” McCarron says.

“He liked hearing that.”

McCarron, who ranks among the nation’s top quarterbacks for the class of 2009, is making his commitment to the Crimson Tide public tonight in Mobile.

After narrowing down his choices, he chose Alabama over Georgia, Miami and Oklahoma.

“Ever since recruiting started, I’ve always dreamed about playing for the University of Alabama,” says the 6-4, 189-pound McCarron from St. Paul’s HS in Mobile.

“For the past two weeks, I’ve known that I would commit. I love the tradition and feel like you can’t find a better place than Alabama.”

McCarron chose Alabama for many reasons.

“First of all, I based my decision on more than just football,” he says. “I think the University sets up a great plan for life after football, and that could be huge for me.

“Playing there will help me in whatever I choose to do after my football career is over. I think a lot of kids make a mistake by not understanding the importance of that. I didn’t want to make that mistake.”

Then there is his relationship with Nick Saban — which McCarron calls “special.”

“Every time I go up there, we spend a lot of time with each other,” McCarron says. “We talk and hang out. We talk about everything. I’m really comfortable around him, and I take everything he says to heart.

“I think Coach Saban has told me a million times that he feels like I can be the guy to lead his team to a national championship.

“I feel that he’s not only a coach but a father-figure to me. In the end, you have to be happy with the head coach.”

Then there’s the offense, under new coordinator Jim McElwain.

“In the short time I’ve known him, Coach Mac has been great,” McCarron says. “He’s all about having fun. And we have the same mind, offensively. He likes to throw the ball, and that excites me. I can’t wait to get up there and start working with him.”

“I think the coaches want to throw the ball,” McCarron adds. “Coach Saban was a quarterback in high school, so he has a quarterback’s perspective when it comes to offense.

“Coach Saban is bringing in some special players that will help the quarterbacks out a ton. I think the offense can be great with the linemen, backs and receivers we are getting.

“I just want to come in and help the team in any way possible. I think I have special gifts throwing the ball. You have to have confidence as a quarterback.”

Then, there is the future.

“As a team, I think the sky’s the limit,” McCarron says. “With the class Alabama signed this year, things are already rolling. It takes more than one class to be great, and we will have a lot of the best players in the country on the same team.

“I feel like after my time at Alabama, we can walk away with two or more national championships. I think we will have huge success and bring Alabama to where it was in the 90s — back to when you mentioned the University of Alabama, people feared them.”

McCarron says he’s already started working towards one of his goals. “I’m working with a trainer. I think I will be bigger,” he says. “I know I can already make all of the throws.”

McCarron runs a 4.85 40. Last season, he led his team to the state title and earned 5A All-State honors after throwing for 2,532 yards and 26 touchdowns.

McCarron carries a 3.0 GPA and scored a 19 on the ACT.

I live in the Sandy Springs area andwas wondering what the big players at Dunwoody were doing. does anyone know what the running back #32 T. Scales, linebackers #52 J. King and #55 B. Adams and #11 Z. Weaver were being recruited.

I watched the Norman kid last year in 3 games and he was super in all of them.
