Former opponent praises Georgia signee
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution

The state of Georgia produced two five-star defensive linemen in the 2008 class with Buford’s Omar Hunter (signed with Florida) and DeAngelo Tyson (Georgia), but Scout.com’s Southeast recruiting manager, Burke Hayes, believes that rising senior Abry Jones of Northside-Warner Robins has more potential than either.
On Hayes’ strong recommendation, Jones was promoted to a five-star recruit and named the No. 1 defensive tackle in the country Thursday when Scout released its National 300 list.
“I think Abry has more upside,” Hayes said. “I think he has the most upside of any defensive player in the country because of his frame. He’s not landlocked at 6-2, 6-1. He’s a 6-4 guy whose physically immature because he’s only played football and been lifting weights for three years. When gets into the weight room, he’s going to blow up.”
Hayes was an assistant coach at Rome High last season and faced Jones’ Northside team in the playoffs before joining Scout’s staff. Jones impressed Scout’s staff last weekend at a camp in Auburn.
Scout’s original rating of Jones had him at No. 52 nationally, but for this week’s update of the National 300, Hayes argued to rate him higher.
“I said we need to move him ahead of Jacobbi McDaniel, a FSU commit, and a lot of guys wanted to keep McDaniel up, but Scott [Kennedy, the national director of recruiting] and I lobbied hard for Abry,” Hayes said. “McDaniel is a high motor guy, but he’s 6-1 and may have peaked physically. And I’ve seen so much film on Abry. It’s not like it’s a shot in the dark.”

Anyone know if the dawgs are going after Dre Kirkpatrick, Nico Johnson, and Devonte Holloman? All three have uga listed as a favorite but no scholarship offer as of yet? Also, anyone heard of the recruitment of Tana Patrick or Jarvis Jones?

Heard GT just offered Richard Simmons. Any truth to this and if so will he be allowed to wear his cute little tanks tops under his jersey? From what I’ve heard I would advise Johnson to have velcro stitched into the hands of their vaunted 1 star backfield.

Abry Jones is the best football player to come out of Georgia in years. He is the only DL Ive seen that could play a college skill position and actually be good. The best thing about him is he has the ability to sense the flow of a play. Watch him this year if get the chance.

UGA has offered Dre a while ago and Holloman. However Holloman is more of a linebacker than a safety at the next level so they haven’t been recruiting him. If Dre leaves the state of bama it will be a surprise. Not sure about Nico, right now no offer for him.

regarding tana patrick, bama fans call him a bama lock, but they are worried because he really loved athens. i still think he ends up at bama. regarding jarvis jones it’s clemson or uga with uf a 3rd.. he ends up in uga IMO.

I think Aubry Jones will be an excellent player in a couple of years at UGA and playing 5AAAA will definately help his development this year. But the best football player to come out of Georgia in years…he’s got a ways to go there. It’s too early for those accolades.

Two things UGA will never have that we have at Tech. A world class education and the nation’s best Tickle Piles. Don’t go to UGA. We’re so much smarter! THWG!!

I’ve never read a tech blog, but do dog fans read and write on those sites as much as the buzzers write on ours? I feel like they are stalkers sometimes.

Only thing tech has that we don’t is a screwed up view of UGA. I’d rather go to a school with cool people and still get a good education than to go to a school full of nerds and geeks. GOOOOOOOO Dawgs Sick Em Woof Woof Woof And I see Georgia on top 58 wins and 38 loses over GT

Richard Simmons is a great man…He dresses the way he wants to. Stop picking on people who you don’t understand. All of us have a special place in this world and Mr. Simmons is one of them.

UGA had almost as many people apply (17,600) to be freshman this year as Tech has enrolled (18,000)… the students that were accepted had an average GPA of 3.86 and their HS curriculum included many AP an Honors classes. The smart people at GA Tech have nothing on smart good looking and diverse students at UGA

Let’s stop wasting time discussing gt. They suck. They know they suck. We know they suck and that’s why they get on UGA’s blogs. You geeks need to get a life!
Seems like every day we get better and better news regarding UGA signees and future signees. The competition is getting VERY scared and they should be! GO DAWGS!!!
