Henry County receiver nabs offer from Georgia Tech

After receiving scholarship offers from nearly every national power throughout the country, Henry County receiver Jamal Patterson finally received some love earlier today from one of the two major colleges in his home state.

“I got an offer from Georgia Tech today,” Patterson said shortly after 7:30 p.m.

Patterson, whose recruiting portfolio features offers from the likes of Alabama, Auburn, Clemson, Florida, Florida State, LSU, South Carolina, and, as of Monday, Oregon, seemed pessimistic when asked if scholarship-strapped Georgia will also offer.

“I haven’t heard too much from Georgia,” he said.

As for Tech, Patterson is taking a wait-and-see attitude on how often first-year coach Paul Johnson will throw out of his run-oriented offense.

“[Tech linebackers] coach Brian Jean-Mary is a real nice guy,” Patterson said. “I like him a lot.

“He’s tried to tell me how their offense is ran. Our team went there for their spring game, but I wasn’t able to make it.

“I’d like to watch them actually play this year. I know I’ll watch a lot of teams, including Tech.”

Patterson seems intent on keeping his word by evaluating several teams this fall before making a commitment.

“I don’t think I’ll commit anytime soon,” he said.

Patterson, who is scheduled to participate in a region track meet beginning Monday, will participate in the Southeastern All American combine at Auburn on Sunday.

He’ll travel to Tuscaloosa, Ala. on May 3rd for a combine hosted by Rivals.com.
