Florida making push for Carver defensive back

Carver free safety Darren Myles Jr. has officially received a scholarship offer from Florida.

Gainesville, Fla. was just one stop Myles made during a recent whirlwind tour of colleges during his spring break.

“We saw the Gators scrimmage and met with coach [Urban] Meyer,” Myles’ father, Carver coach Darren Myles, said. “Coach Meyer said they want him in the program. So they offered him.

“Darren is intrigued by the offer. Who wouldn’t be intrigued by Florida? Florida was one of the schools he was interested in before his recruiting took off.”

Following a brief stop at Central Florida, the road trip got even better when they began the trek back to Atlanta before heading to Alabama and Tennessee.

Carver running back Demond Dennis, who was tagging along on the journey, received word via phone that Auburn had pulled the triger on an offer.

“Demond has offers from Auburn, Alabama and Miami of Ohio,” coach Myles said. “This is a kid that rushed for over 1,600 yards in just 10 games last season.”

Not to be upstaged, Myles received immediately two new offers.

“We got a call from [assistant head] coach Jon Tenuta of Notre Dame and he said they were offering Darren,” coach Myles said. “Then we got home and opened the mail and Darren had received an offer from Clemson.”

Prior to last week, the 6-foot-2.5, 185-pound Myles already held offers from programs such Alabama, Auburn, Central Florida, Georgia, Georgia Tech, Kentucky, Michigan, Mississippi State, North Carolina State, Purdue, Tennessee, Vanderbilt, Wake Forest and West Virginia.

The younger Myles’ next task is preparing for spring practice at Carver, which begins May 5 and culminates with the spring game on May 16.

Dang, Carver has jumped on the map. All I can say is go where you feel comfortable. I remember playing Carver for homecoming every year and winning by 40 points. These kids have really turned their team around, so good job. I go to Auburn, so of course I’d love them to come here, but all I can say is go where you want. You will have fun and enjoy wherever you go. Auburn is stacked at RB, but soft at DB…

I agree with gfed2008. Check them out closely and find the team that really feels right for you. I, of course, would like for you to become a Jacket, but, if not, I wish you the best of luck wherever you decide to go.

Darren Myles Jr. is an incredible athlete who can play several positions including RB, FS or SS and WR. Whatever college he chooses will definitely find a spot for him because of his talent. It was interesting in talking to Coach Darren Myles, a former RB at Purdue via New Orleans, that the younger Myles is not being recruited more as an athlete but as a FS. Coaches like his closing speed and that he is very aggressive.

Darren,

Come to the GT. You’d get 2 years to play with the best Safety in the Southeast, Morgan Burnett. Burnett & Myles would form the most potent set of safeties this side of Laron Landry and the late/great Sean Taylor.

Well for more proof that “Recruiting Rankings” are bogus take a look at the major disparity regarding Rivals “100” for 2008. You have a RB from CA who has committed to ND ranked #3 overall his stats say he ran for 2600 yds & 42 TD’s . Good Stats Now we have Washaun Ealey who is committed to UGA and has been ranked #90. He only ran for 3000+ yds and 58 TDS!!! 58 freakin TDS and won a State Title last year and he is #90?????????????? (I saw this kid play in the dome and he is another Garrison Hurst.) Give me a break!!!!

No one wants to go to GA Tech. GA Tech may be the worst football programs in the nation.

Young Myles enjoy and go to the school that is best for you. Would love for you to stay in-state so we all could watch you play on a regular basis.
