Ten Norcross Blue Devils to play college football
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Categories
Three more Norcross football players will continue playing in college.
Kicker Chris Tanner will be a preferred walk-on at Georgia Tech, defensive lineman Augustus Dukuly received a scholarship to Brevard College in North Carolina and linebacker Cameron Hines signed a partial scholarship with Santa Barbara City College.
Tanner was one of the most prolific kickers in the county, scoring 144 points the last two years. Dukuly was in on 110 tackles, had 21 hits behind the line of scrimmage last season, and Hines was credited with 80 tackles and 16 hits behind the line, coach Keith Maloof said.
That brings to 10 the number of Norcross kids that will play at the next level. They join Brice Butler, Devonta Bolton, Alex Napper and John Kelly, who signed Division 1 scholarships, and Dion DuBose, Thinh Ho and Georgia walk-on Nick Sorel.
“It’s always fun to watch them grow and develop,” Maloof said. “My goal is to get them all in college, whether they play football or not. It’s gravy if they play. We want to see our kids move on to the next step and make something of themselves.”

Great. I hope that every one of these kids do well academically and athletically. Enjoy your college days and come out a winner, regardless of where you go.

Congrats to you young men. Having the opportunity to go to college and get an education along with playing the game. This is great. This is a very important aspect of high school ball. Keep it up Coach M.

Snellville Jacket:
What are you talking about?
Brookwood had eight signees in 2008 including Division I-bound players Kenny Miles (South Carolina) Terence Davis (Wake Forest) and Dawson Zimmerman (Clemson), plus the trio of Josh Jackson, A.J. Mackey and Jarrett Mackey, all of whom will attend the U.S. Military Academy at West Point.
The 2009 class already has (Kellen Williams) who has 10 D-1 offers. Stop crying sour grapes. Not every kid can play D1 or even D2 ball. Thats not the coaches fault. Since when is it the high school coaches job to get a kid a scholy?

Hey, Is this a highschool recruiting site or a Georgia Tech site? I see where Chris Tanner is walking on at Tech. This kid is good! Tech needs to give this guy a scholarship because without Tashard Choice, Tanner will be the only one scoring points. I sure hope he can kick ‘em from beyond 60 yards because Tech won’t break the 50 when they play a decent school.
I’m pleased that Dukuly and Hines got a free ride in one case and a partial GIA for the other, but who cares about Brevard College or Santa Barbara City College. These kids are marginal players at best playing for marginal teams. I hope they graduate because they won’t be playing on Sundays, unless its in the back yard.

97% of High School players who get recruited has nothing whatsoever to do with the High School Coach. In fact, most times its not because of the coach its In Spite of the Coaches’ lack of efforts. Do you really think Coach Maloof has Pete Carroll or Nick Saban on his speed dial? If you do, I got some property in the North Pole I’d like to sell you.

Every single one of them deserve to play at the next level. Contrary to popular belief, Maloof is tentatively involved in the recruiting process; but true, it’s not the coach who does the work.
The Blue Devils will undoubtedly have a great season—provided Charles King can remain in the pocket and let DJ Adams do all the running. Prince will have a successful season as well.
As for Geremy Davis, I’ve never even heard of him. However, he might as well be a JV star as he isn’t listed on the 2008 Varsity Roster. (yet?)

Tech PK, you are suppose to push the send button “ONCE.”
Prince’ success on offense is tied to King’s success. I don’t think you have a clue about football. When you have a mobile QB, and one that can throw and I think King proved he can from last year’s stats. It adds another powerful dimension to your offense. Adams is good, but King will keep and need to keep defenses honest. Otherwise, its 9 guys in the box. Norcross has an awesome OL, Garcia, Munoz, McCloskey and McGill

Coach Maloof and the entire coaching staff at Norcross are dedicated to these young men being productive citizens after football. Norcross football is a family organization and a close community who beleives that education and winning in life is more important than x’s and 0’s. When you take a kid like Cameron Hines who did not play football untill the 9th grade, and he gets the opportunity to play for one of the best academic junco schools in the united states,(Santa Barbara City College California) that is a reflection of hard work by the player and great coaching by the staff. If we had more coaches and community support like Norcross, there would be more sucess stories like these. Thanks Coach Maloof and GO BLUE DEVILS!
