Saban offers Brookwood tackle
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Categories
Brookwood offensive tackle Kellen Williams hit the recruiting jackpot on Wednesday.
After learning early in the day that a scholarship offer is in the mail from FSU, the 6-foot-5, 290-pound Williams received an offer from Alabama during a phone call with Crimson Tide coach Nick Saban late Wednesday.
Williams already had offers from Arkansas, Boston College, Central Florida, N.C. State, Rutgers, UAB, Vanderbilt and Wake Forest.
“It’s definitely a big deal to get an offer from Florida State,” Williams told the AJC Wednesday afternoon. “Most of the other schools offering me don’t have as much tradition as FSU.
“To be able to be considered to receive a scholarship offer from a program like that is amazing. I’m excited about the offer because they have an established tradition of being a national powerhouse.”
But the Seminoles’ offer may have been trumped by Saban’s phone call Wednesday night. Williams has been saying for weeks that his top two choices are Alabama and Georgia.
“It kind of took me a few seconds to respond to coach Saban when he told me about the offer,” Williams told Scout.com. “I told him to expect to hear from me pretty soon.
“Alabama was definitely one of my top schools. I am going to sleep on it and maybe make a decision in a couple of weeks.”
Williams is tentatively scheduled to visit South Carolina on Saturday April 26.

I’m nure the kid is still giddy from talking to Coach Sabear! Hope he doesn’t mind losing to Auburn every year.

I love how it’s not getting an offer from Alabama. No, instead it’s now getting an offer from “Saban”. Unbelievable that people have made a guy that profitted off of Gerry DiNardo’s recruits and couldn’t cut it in the NFL, such status that surpasses the prestige of Alabama.

“profited off Gerry DiNardo’s recruits” Jack you must really be drinking the cool-aid to praise a loser like DiNardo. DiNardo was terrible which is why he got fired. Saban won a NC at LSU his fourth year with his player. LSU won another NC this year with HIS PLAYERS. So when a recruit gets a call from Saban, that’s why its a big deal.

Gerry DiFardo?? Are you serious? Every player drafted from LSU the past two or three years was a Saban recruit, not including the ones coming out this year.

Seriously, no one cares.
If you praise Saban so much, why not change the name to “University of Saban”? And when he leaves for a more lucrative contract in a few yeas, you can change your name back, or better yet to “University of I told you so”.

This article is about a talented kid getting some big time offers. Can we leave it at that? There are a lot of people who do care about this subject, including Bama fans, FSU fans and everyone else he has offers from.

GOOD FOR YOU!! Alabama is a fine school as are all the other schools that you have received offers from. The SEC is a top conference that can compete with any program in the nation- regardless of the Coach- (these teams have all had their moments)- Now lets play some football!!!!

Like said before… who hasn’t Bama offered? Look at this years class in August and see how many of his class make it in. Maybe these kids can play but a bucket of rocks is just as bright as some of these kids.

He sounds like a smart kid. It seems as though if he got an offer from Tommy Gooberville and Cow College he would have tossed it into the garbage where it belongs!

GA DOC,UGA has done what the past 10 years? They have one one more SEC title than Alabama has in that same period. Congrats to Mr. Williams for choosing a fine school.

UGA offered half of Hargrave Academy last year- (kids who don’t qualify and need to go the 13th grade). Also, look at the other schools that offered this kid- Vandy, Boston College, Wake Forest, etc. Grades are not going to be the issue. Look, no need to bash each others schools. Most programs have had both success and failure. No need to live or die by them. Congrats to a great opportunity.

GA DOC - you guys won in overtime. Would hardly call that a spanking! Bama did have a championship in the 90’s - not that long ago. Its been a lot longer for UGA. Don’t get me wrong - UGA is a great program, but so is Alabama. Let’s not get out of control here!

GA Doc…Spank us again? You now qualify winning in OT against a BAD team a spanking. If so, what do you call the last 2 years for UGA against UT? As for the last 10 years, UGA has 2 SEC titles to BAMA’s 1. Yes, you guys have had a better record but what has that gotten you? There is no question UGA is a better program right now and the way they got there is exactly how Alabama is going to get there. Hire a great coach who can recruit with the best of them. He is doing that and it is funny how I see the only people who think he wont be successful are SEC fans on message boards!

Jack…Since reading comprehension is not your thing, I will explain to you the offer. It was not the University of Alabama who called and offered this young man a scholarship. It was Coach Saban. For as far back as I can remember, the actual University never called and offered ANYONE a scholarship. To my knowledge it was always the head coach. Hence the headline “Saban offers Brookwood Tackle”. Does that make a little more sense to you. Also, I find it funny how you can comment on Saban winning with Dinardo’s players but when Saban gets any credit for recruiting 16 of Les Miles staters, LSU fans go nuts!

For Alabama fans: In Georgia we can say that we are the undisputed, superior football program in our state. You cannot say the same about your program, much less comparisons to any other program.

The national media believes Auburn is part of Ga….Bama has always been the dominate team in AL. Worry about Bama recruiting players in your backyard. Don’t worry about Auburn; Bama concerns ourselves with our program, not UGA, AU…I hope UGA has a great year, just act like you have been there…Act like Coach Richt…classy! ROLL TIDE!!!!
