Florida State offers Lassiter tight end
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Categories
Lassiter’s Philip Lutzenkirchen received a pleasant surprise on Thursday when he picked up the phone and called the Florida State coaching staff.
“They offered me even though I hadn’t received one letter from them,” the 6-foot-4, 230-pound tight end/linebacker said. “It was kind of out of the blue.
“I haven’t even visited there. I’ll probably visit them sometime this summer.”
Lutzenkirchen, who already had scholarship offers from Auburn, Georgia Tech, Mississippi State, Stanford and Troy, said he’ll settle on a school by June.
“I like Auburn a lot, but I’m still open to everything,” he said. “My dad really wants me to go out to California, not this weekend but the following weekend, to visit Stanford and California.”
On who is recruiting him the hardest: “Georgia Tech,” he said. “I get a lot of letters from them. Stanford is recruiting me hard too. And FSU has started e-mailing me a lot. I talked to Auburn today on the phone. They really like me.”
On his best visit this spring: “I liked Auburn and liked meeting all the coaches at Georgia Tech,” he said. “And I really like Auburn’s campus. It is really pretty.”

Is UGA not wanting this kid for some reason?

UGA doesn’t have enough scholarships to give out to everyone, so they really have to focus on who they want the most and hope that the prospects are able to wait until closer to signing day to decide. They don’t want to offer anybody but 4 or 5 star prospects because they obviously want to sign the best players they can get. They don’t want to offer a scholarship to a 3 star guy and have him committ, and then have to deny a 5 star who makes a decision later. The best school close to home that will offer him is going to be Auburn. The offense they are now running is great for him. If I were him, I’d go to Auburn, unless UGA offers.

They are not ranking the class of ‘09 yet but when they do Fla St may very well be considered #1. I just took a look and they are kicking it right now. If I were UGA or Ga Tech I would not want this sleeping giant to wake back up after being asleep for about 8-10 years.

But they have already signed four non 4-5 players. Maybe the ratings will go up for these guys, but at least for now their upcoming class is not made up of all 4 and 5 star players. There are some very good football players who are not rated 4 or 5.

Is this kid, Joseph Kerr, a real person or not. Have not seen anything else about him. Does anyone else know?

Yeah, it would be real unfortunate for the Bulldogs if someone in the state of Florida started competing with the Gators for top recruits, which by the way, this tight end isn’t.

gfed2008 are you serious! UGAG has already 2 our 3 three guys who are no better than 2 or 3 star. So I guess you guys don’t want those players lol. Look STARS mean absolutely nothing to coaches. Coaching staffs evaluate players and pursue young men who can fit a specific need or a certain scheme. Not just because someone on Rivals or Scout rated a player with 4 and 5 stars. Get real!

“As for Georgia, I know they didn’t get the tight end they wanted in the class of 2008. I think they’ll offer a tight end, but I don’t know if it will be me. I’m getting a pretty good vibe, but don’t really know if they’ll offer because of their lack of scholarships.” -Lutzenkirchen
He’s a great player, im not saying he is bad by any means…I was just commenting that UGA is having a small class, and they are being very picky in who they offer and to whom they are giving out committable offers to.

stars schmars…. lets see here. do i believe a bunch of fans who run recruiting sites as to the quality of a recruit or do i look at which schools are recruting him. hmmmmm.
could it be that these schools think this kid is under rated?
i think that ill trust coaching staffs over recruiting fan/guru’s any day. afterall dont 2 star players become 4-5 star players after uga recruits em?
as far as 09 goes theOSU will prob have the best year next year as far as quality goes. they had more 4-5 star players than anybody this year. they just couldnt do the numbers like miami alabama an clemson. 31 recruits always beat 19. btw, they (like gt) expect all their recruits to qualify. unlike sec schools.
fyi the bucks’ new class is looking to be even better than this past years class of 19. next year they can take the maximum.

Stan, I just read an article stating he is hoping for a UGA offer…. stop spreading rumors. If UGA offers, I think he will go. He is a great player I think UGA will offer.
