First offer for Tucker nose guard

Tucker junior Deion Roberson received a bit of good news earlier today.

“West Virginia called me and offered Deion,” Tucker coach Franklin Stephens said Thursday evening. “He was excited about it because it’s his first major offer.”

If he commit to the Mountaineers, West Virginia coaches plan to play Roberson at nose guard.

“They’re looking for a true nose guard to play in an odd man front,” Stephens said. “And we happen to play the same defense, which is a 3-3.”

Stephens figures more offers are forthcoming for the 6-foot-2, 275-pound Roberson.

“Probably the most exciting thing is it is close to May when college coaches can come back out,” Stephens said. “It would be nice if there is a snowball effect because you want the kids to have every possible option.”

Spring practice is set to begin at Tucker on May 8.
