First offer for Tucker nose guard

Tucker junior Deion Roberson received a bit of good news earlier today.

“West Virginia called me and offered Deion,” Tucker coach Franklin Stephens said Thursday evening. “He was excited about it because it’s his first major offer.”

If he commit to the Mountaineers, West Virginia coaches plan to play Roberson at nose guard.

“They’re looking for a true nose guard to play in an odd man front,” Stephens said. “And we happen to play the same defense, which is a 3-3.”

Stephens figures more offers are forthcoming for the 6-foot-2, 275-pound Roberson.

“Probably the most exciting thing is it is close to May when college coaches can come back out,” Stephens said. “It would be nice if there is a snowball effect because you want the kids to have every possible option.”

Spring practice is set to begin at Tucker on May 8.

Come on, Tony. You are always fair and I’m not saying you are not here, but Tuberville deserves to be included with the national championship coaches. He went 13-0 and beat four top 10 teams in one seaason. Was that season or Miles’ two-loss season or Meyer’s one-loss season better? Not taking anything away from them, but seriously …

If you read his article, one of the main things he talks about is LUCK. Unfortunately, Auburn had a great team that year, but no luck.

So, Bottom line on Auburn’s 2004 season, while a great year, they still didn’t win nor play for the National Championsip. I agree and think they should have been in there, but to just assume they would have beaten an unebelievable USC team that year is wrong. So, I’m with Tony on that one…

I would like to express my feelings on the current state of the football club at GT. First of all, I’d like to say that I am a graduate of Georgia Tech from the class of 1962, and am a rabid Tech “fanatic”. I have proudly held season tickets for the past 34 seasons and pray that I won’t miss a home game in the near future. That being said, I am dissapointed with the progress that we have been able to make over the past decade, and am not real confident that things will get much better anytime soon. Here’s why:

1 - Paul Johnson - a great man, but I just don’t feel comfortable with his offensive scheme in the difficult ACC. 2 - Those damn Dawgs from across the state - like it or not, they are continuosly improving and have probably the best coaching staff in the country. Like them or not, the facts are facts. 3 - poor recruiting - Until we significantly improve and start winning a game or two against those damn dawgs, why would a top-notch recruit want to come here versus UGA? There is much more spotlight and national attention there, right? I guess the only draw to come here would be instant playing time instead of a redshirt year over there.

Miami, FSU, VT, VA, Wake, BC -all showing significant signs of improving! Who wants to play for a chance to take 3rd in your division?

Here’s the bottom line: We need to get off our asses and start getting serious around here. I have spent hundreds of thousands of dollars over the years on this program and have not been this negative about our progress in 40 years! Like it or not folks, I believe that Chan was a pretty darn good coach. I agree that we should have fired his a* because he could not beat those damn, hated dawgs. However, do you guys really think that an option offense is the answer for beating them? It will take a hell of a lot more than that! You guys do realize that they are going to be ranked #1 this fall, and we have regressed. when is the last time we beat them? The point is, all the talent in the world is right here at our finger tips - in the state of Georgia. Why do we keep missing out on all of it? Perhaps our high school option offense will detract some blue chippers from UGA’s pro style offense, huh? I doubt it.

Ned I agree with you. GT has offered my son and he already qualifies but he wants to win and you guys can’t do that consistetly especially with the new offense.

Ned if you really did go to Tech then let me ask you “what was your major”? Now look at the roster of Tech and see that no one is majoring in less than a business management degree. How many at your Miami, FSU, VT, Wake Clemson N.C. and BC can say that? Look how many are taking Hargrave players or enrolling suspected kids into football degrees. Are these the so called student/atheletes you want at your school that you graduated from? Many of these players had a hard time in high school. Sure, find the kid that excells in the classroom and stars on the gridiron and I’ll be for that. A college education is way more than 4 years of football so you’ld better get a good degree!! Those players are hard to find.

West Virginia must like the defense they have seen the past two seasons In the 6-AAAA.It has been stout. They took the beast from Mays,#46 Bernard Smith

Ned, you are an idiot. If you really have spent “hundreds of thousands of dollars” on the Tech program over the years, where did it go? That stadium is a dump, and you sure weren’t investing it anywhere in the program. As for GT all the way, I’m sooooo sure all the Tech players are major business students. Puhleze. This argument again? Frankly, both state programs have some catching up to do with respect to graduation rates, and I hope both UGA and Tech can post better numbers over the next few years. But save me the talk about how smart the Tech players are.

All Dawg fans get a list of the majors Tech players are majoring in, for any conference their pretty impressive. It took Navy players a year or to , to buy into Johnsons offense. It actually works, and it’s so different than anything else in the ACC it will be hard for them to prepare for. Talent wise Tech is several steps short, and only a few more wins and a decent ACC finish will improve that any time soon. tjs

Boots, obviously you never attend games or are computer illiterate. This information can be seen in the game program or media guides put out by each school. Do a little research.

I agree Ned! I love the Jackets, but am scared to death about the future. I hate UGA more than anyone on this blog, but don’t see us beating them anytime soon. Look what happened to them when Spurrier got to UF. Looks like a similar situation with them and us right now. Go Jackets! Suprise us!!

Nice work, Ned! I believe UGA will kick som a* in 2008. Hopefully, GT will go at least 8-4 and keep the UGA game close.

Ned, I’m going to put at least two of your option QBs out of this year’s game.
