Tech, Bama among schools eyeing Miller Grove WR Hill
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Categories
Miller Grove junior Stephen Hill has what colleges are looking for in wide receivers — height and speed.
Hill, a three-sport standout, is starting to attract more college offers. The 6-foot-4, 185-pound Hill already has football offers from Central Florida and Mississippi State.
Miller Grove coach Jasper Jewell said that Miami-Ohio will offer by the end of the week, but several other major colleges, including Alabama, Clemson, North Carolina, West Virginia, Tennessee and Georgia Tech, have shown a lot of interest.
“He has tremendous upside,” Jewell said. “Once he gets to college, he will put on 15 to 20 pounds. I think he will be the next Calvin Johnson. With the desire he has for the game, he can play on Sundays.”
Hill had 24 receptions for 500 yards and eight touchdowns last season. He was honorable mention in basketball after averaging 11 points, eight rebounds and two blocked shots to lead the school to the Class AAAA semifinals.
Last week, Hill set a new DeKalb County record in the long jump by jumping 23-feet, 11 inches at the DeKalb County Championships.
“I feel very confident I will pick the right school for me,” Hill said. “I’ll probably do track in college, also.”
Hill is also a top contender in the 300 meters hurdles and has several schools, including Georgia, Mississippi State and Alabama, interested in him for track. He has attracted mild interest for basketball.
“I think football is my best sport,” Hill said. “Last year was my first year on the varsity [basketball team]. I’m really enjoying the recruiting process. My first priority is education, because I want to be successful in life. I have to have a backup plan.”

Sweet Home Alabama, that was a very compelling argument for the young man to attend your University. In the future, I would suggest that you use spell check and try a more positive approach. These kids aren’t as dumb as you think they are.
Stephen, best of luck wherever you choose to go. I really respect your priorities, and that obviously speaks well towards your family, and coaches. Keep up the good work!

geoffdawg, I will reiterate my same comments to you that I have made in the past. Comments like yours are a disgrace to the University you supposedly support. I can assure you Coach Richt wouldn’t tolerate snobbish statements and attitudes like yours in his locker room.
These are young men who are working hard at high school athletics as well as academics. The fact that they are being considered for Scholarship offers from colleges across the country is quite an accomplishment, no matter what program it comes from.
At the end of the day, Stephen’s priority was getting an education, so he could be a productive citizen in our community. That is a much more mature comment than anything you have posted.

Yes, it’s true. If you choose Bama over Tech you can stay close to home and work. At Burger King.

Big Bug; I have no problem calling you on the carpet either. If you are a GA Tech supporter, your comments are just as bad as everyone else’s.
Maybe you need to spend a little time reading some of Coach Dodd’s commentaries from way back when. You might learn a few things about respect and dignity.

Insider, It’s true coach Dodd was a class act, although I can’t imagine him allowing someone to besmirch Tech with no response.I would be very interested in learning where I might read the commentaries to which you refer, thereby enhancing my knowledge of respect and dignity. As for me, I have always believed that if you dish it out, you had better be able to take it.Are you willing to sit by while Alabama insults Tech? You must not think much of Tech. You must be some kind of preacher. As far as I am concerned, Tech doesn’t cow down to anybody. Apparently you do not agree.

Stephen is truly a great athlete and a very gifted Wide Receiver. He is a great person with a solid parental and family foundation. The school that lands him will definitely have an exemplary student-athlete.
I have said it before and I will say it again, Stephen is definitely the BEST Wide Receiver in the Southeast and should be ranked among the top 10 high schoolers in the nation at his position. Fir those of you reading the blog, you can see his highlight video on youtube.com search for Miller Grove Football 2007. Check it out I am sure you will be very impressed.

To any and all of the above, regardless of your school connections, be careful with the first impression you make, because it may be the last one you make.
