Four major offers for Tucker’s Davis

Tucker running back/linebacker Jonathan Davis kicked off his spring break with a visit to Central Florida over the weekend.

Davis is currently mulling over scholarship offers from the Knights, Clemson, Mississippi State and UAB.

“I think the most impressive thing about him is his playmaking ability as a running back or defensive player,” Tucker coach Franklin Stephens said Sunday evening.

“I think he’ll end up being a defensive player [in college]. He’s a phenomenal defensive player. He just has those instincts to find the football and make plays defensively.”

What Davis lacks in size at 5-foot-9, 195-pounds is offset by his speed.

“He went to a camp earlier this year and went 4.37 [seconds] in the 40,” Stephens said. “He has exceptional talent, speed and quickness.”

Stephens said he’d be surprised if Davis commits in the foreseeable future.

“There are several other SEC and ACC schools that have expressed an interest in him,” Stephens said. “I think it’s a situation where it’s early for him [to commit].

“I think Jonathan is a kid that is going to weigh his options and see what else is out there.”

The big reason why his offers aren’t more is because he is not 5’9, he is 5’7.. they need to measure the guy better.. ajc do your homework.. 2nd his grades are a big issue..

I thought he was 5’9. Grades are supposed to be an issue; however, hopefully he can make enough progress to get more offers. He is only a little shorter than Rennie, with the same kind of nose for the ball. Also, who is they?

They meaning the ajc.. they need to do a better job when talking about recruits and no he has been measured and he is 5’7.. not 5’9..

You mean he still has another year of eligibility? He’s got to be knocking on 19 years old this year. We knew him in recreation ball and I know he is the same age as my son who graduated in 07 because they played on the same team. His grades have suffered because he did not get the basics when he was younger. The mentality of not taking academics seriously may haunt his family.

JD is not a goog student he dont even go to class I hear from the other students. He also has been in some big trouble skipping school recently. He may be a great football player but thats all. and yes he 5”7. Wonder why St. Pius X put him out

Sounds like he would be a perfect fit at FSU. A hard hitting dumbie, who never goes to class and grades are sub-par. Bobby you got to go after this guy.

J.Davis is as good as it gets on the football feild !!! He’ll end up going pro some day. YES PRO !! He’s way too good a player on the feild to be overlooked by ant school. Lay off on all the hate and show a little respect. As for grades,,, he has nobody to blame except himself.

It is absolutely disgraceful how most of you can be so disrespectful about a young man you know nothing about. How many of YOU have played High School Varsity Ball, kept your grades up, and caught the eyes of major College football programs?

I, for one, am proud for Jonathan, and wish him nothing but the very best. Keep up the good work, son.

5’9 of 5’0” Johnathan is the best player in GA. All you haters who handed out water to rest of the team need to stop.If you had 10% of his talent and worked half as hard, you might have gotten in the game when your team was up by 50. You should hope that he plays for your favorite college, not against it. Name 5 other 3 time all-state players in GA.

Ga Tech Insider

You ask how many of you kept your grades up, got the attention of major college football programs.

I did but I agree with the public critiques of a high school kid. They are out of line. He can play somewhere but not at Tech.

Well! JD may be the BEST at football but you should be if you have repeated a grade and get an extra year to play. I heard he has had people to take the GHST for him and he will probably get someone to take the SAT and the ACT for him as well. So getting into a good college want be a problem. But parents if you dont mind your kids playing football with and 18 year soon to be 19 then OH WELL! But, he is a good football player and hopefully he is the good guy everyone say he is. Maybe he will read this blog and become humble.

NYJacket, are YOU aware of Jonathan’s high school scholastic’s, or are you relying on some of the comments on this blog? Just because he may not be a straight A student doesn’t mean he isn’t capable of attending any college and being successful if he puts as much effort into it as he does on the playing field.

Don’t sell these young men short. With proper guidance, motivation, and hard work, I believe they can go far. They are our future.

And just for the record, NYJacket, I wasn’t advocating that Jonathan attend GA Tech, but any college of his choosing. I am proud for him for his accomplishments, and I wish him well. That was my statement and I will stick to it.

NYJacket: Most colleges look at the quality of how you handle keeping your school grades up and school activities and they also want you to do community service and I know for a fact that he didnt show up at the habitat for humanity (but he may have done other things for his service. When I think of a all american player I look at the total pacakage. I all way want to see Tucker High students do well and do well after collge. So grade do mean something to have life after football. Good Luck JD

Yeah its not alright to trash a high school kid. Hopefully he does get more offers. From what i’ve heard is that it is a grade/character issue which is why he doesn’t have a lot of offers. Great football player. Will be always underestimated in college wherever he goes, but I think he will put it together and do well in school and prove everyone wrong. He just needs a chance in a good place with the right system. I think either GA Tech, Auburn or Clemson would be good schools for him. Those schools don’t have students get in trouble as often. A lot less temptation in those areas. UGA needs to really concentrate on high character guys because there is a lot of temptation in Athens with really strict cops too…Police have better things to deal with than stupid teenagers in downtown Atlanta, and in Auburn there is not much to do and the police are cool. Clemson is similar to Auburn in all aspects.

That rape thing was a rumor that was made up, so try and get your facts correct. I know him on a personal level and he really is a nice guy, except on the football field..His grades have always been an issue because his mind is always on football. Teachers try to help him but he just has no interest in it at all. I hope he can put together a decent GPA so he can go to a major college and dominate at the next level.

Yes! The rape issue was and issue but not rape. Thats still pending and investigation and yes he was suspended for that and skipping school with Chris Simpson and some other students. DApolice if he is not interested in school work in high school what make you think he is going to be interested in college. The professors are not going to babysit him. He will be treated as an a young adult which he is already is @ 18. Maybe his family has a good plan to get him on track. Student make misstake and we should give the a second change to get it right. Good luck JD!

In college he can’t and won’t play football unless his grades are decent at best. I know he loves football and if they threaten to take it away he’ll try his best to get his grades up. St. Pius was the place for him, he had all the support in the world and it was a much better environment for him to be in. Unfortunately he left on his own before they had to kick him out.

To Same oh Same oh - JD’s grades are a huge issue. Tech is pulling at straws wanting this kid. He will not qualify. Also, the rape thing IS still PENDING. For 5’7” he is a dynamo. Too bad he’s not about 5’10”, He could have his pick of colleges if his grades were up.

What is it with Afro-Americans and their grades. Yes, I know I’m painting the kid (no pun intended) with a broad brush, but overall the AfroAmericans grades often don’t measure up. Another blogger was right, the professors and tutors will babysit JD and get him by. The same thing happened at UGA back in the early 80’s with the Jan Kemp fiasco. Players registered for but not going to remedial English classes, and still getting passing grades.Georgia was punished severely. Is beating Georgia THAT important that we have to compromise our academic integrity? I guess it is. Jonathon Davis should go to a JC somewhere, i.e. Hargraves military, and get his Gpa UP. This would also show if he even has the aptitude for college level class. I don’t think he does. After all, he is not an O’Bama.

How do you know it’s still pending, please inform me? It was suppose to be a rumor, and if it was actually true wouldn’t we have heard about it on the news or maybe on a recruiting site?

He’s got connections at UGA, so I would like to see him go there. I think a year at Hargrave could do him a little good like it has to some players in the past.

I am black and it disgusts me to see these athletes throw their lives away.I have never seen this mucn negativity on a recruiting post,so this man must have made numerous ememies along the way.My race should stop pimping out our kids to the best offer and make sure our education is there. If that man has a career-ending injury, what will he have?

How did we take one kid from Tucker High School and begin to judge a whole race of people. It’s sad and unfair to make those comments. There are slackers and under-achievers from every race, neighborhood and economic background. Athletes and non athletes. So let’s not make this more than what it is. Is is a discussion about one kid and whether you like him or not.

this kid is a mean, low-class individual. basically he’s a thug. and i know from experience, i’ve played with and against him. he wont last a few minutes in college, and 5’9” is generous.
