Defensive lineman commits to Bulldogs

For Abry Jones, his college choice came down to feel.

Where did he feel the most comfortable? Where was he relaxed? Which place was most like home?

Georgia hit the trifecta.

“It is where I decided I wanted to be,” said the Northside-Warner Robins defensive lineman.

So the 6-4, 250-pound prospect committed to Georgia on Thursday. He is Georgia’s seventh commitment for 2009. He picked Georgia over Florida, Miami and Clemson.

“There is an excitement in finding a place and knowing that is where I am going to be playing football for the next few years,” Jones said.

Jones was the Bulldogs’ top target at his position and rated a four-star prospect by Scout.com. He spent the weekend at Georgia with his mother and watched the G-Day game Saturday.

“I was watching the players that play my position, their technique and what they do and then tell myself that those are some of the things that I can do in high school,” Jones said.

Jones said he also kept an eye on his position coach Rodney Garner during the game and liked how he reacted to the players.

“He is a man who can help you and coach you and he knows who to get you ready to play when it is time to play,” Jones said.

Georgia entertained several recruits Saturday. The Bulldogs’ scholarship limit is lower this year because of a lack of seniors on the team. Georgia probably will give out 15-20 scholarships.

Oh yeah baby! Abry Jones commits to UGA Looks like we are gonna have a very strong Defensive Line over the next 3 to 4 years hopes : )..I just hope he doesnt decide to pull an allen on us and go to that school for the blind & mentally challenged otherwise known as clemson down the road. Swear sometimes i wish those clemson boys were SEC East sometimes so we could whip the crap out of them. Still looking forward to our meeting with them here in a few years down the road.

Richt has built UGA like FSU use to be. We are slowly becoming a powerhouse with out a downtime. Do not need anymore rb’s. I hope we pick up a big time DT and a couple db’s. OL is about the only other spot we need to keep building on.

Please stop embarresing yourself with national title talk. This is the same team that should have lost to Vanderbilt last year. Tennessee is still scoring on us, and our schedule is impossible. If we win a NC it will be because 2 teams get beat on the last Sat. of the year. Just like LSU this year. We will not go undefeated, we will lose 2 games. If that gets us into the championship then, we’ll take it, but I doubt that it will. Everyone calm down.

Vanderbilt could have spanked the team we played in the Sugar Bowl.

And this is also the same team that played totally different after that Vanderbilt game. Double digit score difference the rest of the year in the games we played. If you couldn’t see it, then your blind. Tennessee has had our number the past couple of seasons but its not like its irreversible. To me, we played last years game scared because of what happened the year before. No one is saying we are definitely going undefeated. You can go to the NC with a loss…it has happened before. And besides, we aren’t the only or main ones building up this talk, the national media is building it up just as much. Go read any news publication and you will see us in the top two in the nation. Regardless, im looking forward to the season and everything that goes with it. Go Dawgs

Dang….was hoping to that Bama would get Arby.

GA’s program looks solid - should be in contention for SEC east with Florida - then Tennessee for several years. Me - along with most of my Bama buddies root for the Dawgs in SEC east. We all hate (but respect) TN. Kind of neutral with Florida - but root for them out of conference.

SEC West - Bama is on the rise!!! Give us another year of growing pains and recruiting…and we will meet up in the DOME!!!!!

GA needs to looking for quarterbacks. With all Stafford’s hype, he has been little more than mediocre. Joe Cox threw 4 passes in the Sugar Bowl and never touched a receiver.

You’re a total moron!!! Stafford will be a first round NFL draft pick.

With Dawgs schedule next year and possible injuries that could happen stop talking about a NCamp, you are jinxing us.

Hey Ed Arnold. Had the receivers not dropped passes (ala Suth Carolina) Stafford would have been in the Dome this past year and you would be singing a different tune. You need to look at his whole body of work, and you’ll see that in even his freshman year he had drops that absolutely cost us wins! You need to know what you speak of before you speaketh.

Glad he picked UGA, and not decide to go to UF so that rivals would “change” him to a 5 star player.

Welcome Abry to the Bulldawg nation…

If I am not mistaken we have a commitment at QB, the Mussenburg(Spelling?) out of Greensboro and Logan Gray looked good in the spring game. He maybe the one to follow Stafford. Cox is a capable backup. We also have a commit for RB. As always we need to pick up more O line and continue to build depth at LB, WR and DB’s.

Good luck Dawgs.

We may or may not win the NC this season, it depends on a lot of factors- like whether or not some idiots once again puts the ohio state university at #1 when the season starts, or maybe LSU. They have their favorites and UGA isn’t one of them. Anybody willing to bet money that vandy or Troy couldn’t kick OSU’s a* up and down the field. Any way you look at it CMR has started a good thing here and it’s going to till we win several NCs.

Welcome Abry…you just joined one of the most consistently disruptive defensive lines in the country. You’ll help us kick some more as$ there.

And as far as Ed Arnold:

You’re right on. Stafford is above average, not great by any means. Some Dawg fans just hate the truth. Fortunately, we don’t need an NFL QB to win a NC. Just look at the last couple of years with UF and LSU. He’s no Matt Leinart, that’s for sure.

we another DL a couple of OL, a TE and then we can cherry pick the rest of the class-off to a great start

It’s getting easier and easier for UGA to recruit these days. These guys aren’t stupid. They know and feel what’s going on here. Long gone are the days of UF and UT getting most of the state of GA’s best players. The tide has turned and the Bulldog Nation is about to experience our best years yet!

F@CK, another Dynamic DL, another Dawg Commit.

With all my $ committed to Timmy and Percy, and the 27 WR’s I’ve signed, there is no money for Linemen.

If we can just lose to Georgia then my gay lover Herbstreit will make sure we play Ohio St. in the National Title game.

That is somebody I know I can beat but Georgia with Stafford,Moreno,King and AJ Green with all those linemen will own my @ss again.

Oh Well. I’m going to the pro’s in another year, been at UF too long anyways, people are starting to catch on to my cheating tactics and leaving programs in chaos.

Stafford mediocre? Not only is he a good QB, he is also a great leader for our team. I’m not saying hes the best in the nation but by no means is he mediocre. What has Matt leinhart got to do with anything? Give Stafford 11 five star players, i bet he could win it for sure then. Dont be like all of the ESPN Morons and hop on the “I hate Georgia” bandwagon.. either be with us or be against us. GO DAWGS!!!

We need to land DB’s DreKirkpatrick and Craig Loston along with another DB then we should be insane!!

I am a HUGE fan of Donovan Tate. This kid can do it all. He has a gun, great moves, size and he can hit.

We have a devastating schedule this year,if we don’t lose to a bum team along the way we might be able to afford to lose 2 games, but if that happens we’ll most likely need help.Alabama scares me a little.
