Notre Dame offers Norcross RB; UGA wants safety Kent

Georgia headlines the scholarship offers currently held by Norcross safety/receiver Prince Kent.

Earlier this week, teammate D.J. Adams was able to add Notre Dame to an already impressive recruiting portfolio.

“You name it, and they’ve probably already offered Prince,” Norcross coach Keith Maloof said. “He’s got offers from schools like Georgia, Florida, Miami, Clemson and LSU.

“[Notre Dame assistant] coach [Jon] Tenuta called on Tuesday and offered D.J. He also just got an offer from Arkansas. But when a school like Notre Dame gets involved, a lot of other schools get involved.”

Alabama, Clemson, Florida, Miami, LSU and South Carolina are among the schools that have already offered the 6-foot-2, 195-pound Kent.

Maloof said his recruiting policy is to lay the groundwork for his players and encourage them and their family to pick the right school.

“He’s got to weigh all of his options and do what’s best for him,” Maloof said. “Prince is interested in Georgia, but he’s got some Florida ties. I think as long as Georgia wants him he’s interested

Adams, a running back who rushed for 1,462 yards as a junior, has offers from programs such as Boston College, Clemson, Maryland, Mississippi State, North Carolina, N.C. State, Rutgers and Wake Forest.

Noticeably absent from Adams’ list of offers is Georgia and Tech.

“Tech and Georgia, I just don’t know,” Maloof said. “I think Georgia probably has all the backs they want.”

You state that he has an offer from UGA, and then later say that he does not have an offer from UGA or Tech. Which is it?

Interesting that this piece comes out after Kent was arrested with Aminu.

I would guess that the felony counts will be drastically reduced, but one must wonder if that will affect Kent’s offers.

CarolinaJacket, there are two different players. Kent has an offer from Georgia; Adams does not. The way I read it, Tech hasn’t offered either player a scholarship.

Coach Maloof… Is this the same annually highly overrated 3-9 Notre Dame team that has a losing bowl record???

Just wondering…

I love UGA, and by virtue of that love, I hate everyone else! UGA has 4 National Championships (‘42, ‘46, ‘68, ‘80) and #5 is coming this season. Richt is adding to the DYNASTY.

Kneel down before the UGA alter, pray to the DAWG.

Simple fact: Auburn (Alabama Polytech) is inferior to UGA in every way. F* are on the decline. Tennessee fans eat boogers!

Bulldawg Rick,

it bites doesn’t it that no matter how bad Notre Dame is in a season, they are still NOTRE DAME. Win a boatload more championships and Georgia might someday earn that kind of respect.

Bulldawg Rick, I don’t understand it either. In most cases, these kids want to go somewhere they can instantly compete for championships. Coach Weiss (not sure if that’s the correct spelling, but who cares?) has a young team, that was an absoule DISGRACE to their program in 07-08. Somehow he is still able to in$pire the most highly regared talent to $ign with ND. What give$$$$$?! Touchdown Jesus must be very influential.

Fighting Irish,

When Notre Dame started last season 0-3 - I thought if they lose the next 3 - they might even drop out of the poles and severely hurt their BCS chances!!!!! Ha! I made myself laugh!!!!

Notre Dame has made a living out being independent - scheduling enough decent teams to “look good” - but excel in scheduling mediocre programs or teams in a down cycle.

Seriously Dude - If Notre Dame had been in the SEC since day one - they would be in the mix with UGA, AUB, TN, LSU, Bama, now Gators which are historically good solid programs year in year out - but play a few more harder games each year.

Here is a list of Notre Dame’s most common opponents played - which is a typical NOtre Dame schedule:

  • Navy (80 games played) - (have not been a power since WW2 when GI bill opened doors to colleges across the nation. Hoorible before Staubach years Horrible since.

  • Purdue (77 games played) - Excellent School - In State Rival - historically a mediocre program

  • USC - (74 games played) - Now your talking rivalry - great program - love to watch ND/USC game.

  • Mich. State (70 games played)- Mediocre Program

  • Pittsburg (67 games played)- Historically - Mediocre with a break through year of two every 7 years or so.

  • Northwestern (45 games played) - no comment.

  • Army (45 games played) - (See Navy)

  • Michigan (34 games played) - excellent opponent.

  • GA Tech (33 games played) - Once proud program in 30’s, 40’s, and 50’s - on life support 60’s, 70’s, mid 80’s - has been a good program since.

  • AirForce - (30 games) -another service academy?…DUDE!

  • Indiana (29 games played) - yet another Big 10 mediocre program…..but will kick your butt in basketball!!!

  • I will give ND credit for occasionally adding a TN to your schedule. I give more credit to a TN for ading a NOtre Dame to their schedule.

If UGA, AU, TN, LSU, Bama, or Florida had this schedule every year - I guess we would be Notre Dame!!!!

    Sic’em Dawg…..excellent post.

Your are right, if in the SEC - they would have a little tougher schedule and not as many wins.

But in my opinion - would still be a giant due to it being such a great school and National interest being kind of “THE” Catholic University …with no disrespect to Boston College.

Bama has been on the losing end against ND to understand the power of a national recruiting base.

    Yes - Notre Dame.

You idiot uga fans don’t have a clue what the words ‘prestige’ and ‘tradition’ mean.

Snide comments like yours are born out of jealousy. It proves that football is more than just wins and losses. And when you have a self-loving, hypocrital coach like richt, it’s all about the winning and his personal goals and that’s hard for you to swallow. He’s such a phony.

He is a class act who truly cares about his players and his program. It’s easy to talk bad about someone when you don’t have to be held accountable for what you say isn’t it. Hope you are proud of yourself big guy.

Give the kids misdemeanors with community service and probation…what they did was wrong but they really are basically good kids who have done a lot of positive things for the community that has nothing to do with sports!!

    Sic’em Dawg,

Conveniently you left off Michigan who we play every year, and other rivalries like BC and Penn ST as well. Those programs are usually pretty solid. We have not played IU or Northwestern since God knows when. These games are scheduled 5-10 yrs in advance so unless Notre Dame officials are able to see in the future and know good these programs will be. We added Oklahoma to the schedule for a couple of years(who knows hoew good the’ll be then?) And everyone has cupcakes on their schedule. It’s just how it is. UGA last year, Western Carolina, Troy, Ole Miss, Vandy. Notre Dame’s schedule is about tradition just like UGAs.

If Richt is in to himself why would he spend his vacations ministering and feeding and helping the poor in Honduras last yearHe is also going to the Middle East this year . I wish all coaches were like him for the good of these kids. Id bet if you dissallowed all prayer in college sports he would quit and become a full time minister. He preaches the difference in right and wrong. Some coaches like the one from South Caro just wish you luck getting out of trouble and will keep rewarding bad behavior and put them back in.

How can a ND fan say UGA fans have no knowledge of “prestige”, “tradition”, honor”, etc. while the great ND tradition is hiring a highschool coach, winning only one game with a Heisman Trophy winner at quarterback(Paul Horning)and promptly giving their current coach a 10-year contract bcause he won more games than he lost using the players brought in by the previous coach. Will they win more than they lose this year? Stay tuned.

Congrats, D.J. on such a great opportunity. He is a great student-athlete in every sense of the term. He is the role model that youth league player emulate. I think a lot of folks are going to be shocked by notre dame this year. Not saying they’ll win it all but will be a big turn around from last year. They recruit well because of they tradition and lure, there is something special about playing football there. If you don’t like ‘em it’s your perogative, but to just dis ‘em and say you don’t understand how they recruit so well after a horrible year show’s how little you actually know about college football.

I like the SEC as well. The fundamental difference is when notre dame has a bad year the fans stick w/ them. When I think of bandwagon fans I think of Ga. Man one loss to Tenn last year and everybody turned on ‘em saying “we suck”.

I about fell out of my chair laughing at the thought of Notre Dame having anyone’s respect. Attention does not equate to respect. Just because someone is talking about you (or in Notre Dame’s case, laughing at you) does not mean they respect you. This is a distinction that several has been washed up over the hill football progams cannot comprehend.

Nobody respects Notre Dame. They were an absolute train wreck and an embarassment to the game last season. The year before they were grossly overrated and got pounded 10 feet in to the turf by every good team they played. If by some miracle they actually get to a BCS bowl game its because of their name, not what they did on the football field during the season. That’s not respect. That’s a charity case. That’s little Timmy getting in to Harvard because mommy and daddy went there and shelled out big bucks to get him in, not because of his achievements. Respect? Please pass whatever you are smoking. Notre Dame is a joke.

But to just sit there drinking your PBR watching Jerry Springer assaulting Notre Dame like they don’t exist is blasphemy. Two years ago you said we were horrible and got pounded by everyone. We actually went 10-3 you went 9-4 we barely beat Ga. Tech as you did. We lost to lsu and usc and michigan who all were great. You lost to Tenn and did I fail to mention Kentucky and Vanderbilt!!!!!! Perhaps you haven’t read any college football playoff scenarios lately. I have and they all all include ND joining a conference. I’m tired of a MNC and want to see a playoff. It appears the only way that’s likely to happen is if ND joins a conference. You get the picture now?

It appears that most of you forget this is a recruiting blog…that being said, I regard Notre Dame as a premier program filled with tradition, and a top rated academic program..any player coming out of there with a degree can count on a higher probability of success in his future then most “football” schools. A down year is taken in stride as was 2007 and ND’s appeal will get them a top recruiting class every year. I’m a Dawg fan who has great pride in our school but often am ashamed of some of the bloggers posing as Dawgs. Young Adams should check out Darrius Walker and ask him about Notre Dame. Hopefully, Prince Kent will check out Georgia’s tradition of outstanding safties. Go Dawgs!!
