Only one offer so far for M.L. King’s Kight
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution

M.L. King linebacker Joel Kight has drawn interest from a lot of schools on the recruiting front, but Miami-Ohio has made the only concrete offer.
Kight, the AJC’s Class AAAAA defensive player of the year, said several schools, including Georgia, Alabama, Oklahoma State, Central Florida, Auburn and West Virginia, have not offered, but he said they have been impressed with his game film. Kight, who said he has a 3.9 grade-point average, is awaiting his test scores.
“Several people want me to come to their camps this summer,” Kight said. “I’m going to sit down with my dad, and we will see which ones we will attend.”
Kight, a 5-foot-9, 205-pound all-state selection, had 153 tackles, eight sacks and 21 tackles for losses. He also had an interception and fumble recovery. He also played running back for the Lions, which made the Class AAAAA quarterfinals. He will play running back, linebacker or safety on the next level.
“I’m not real surprised that more offers haven’t come in,” Kight said. “What comes, comes. I’m happy with the offer I have so far, but several schools are still talking to me. I have no favorites. I like them all.”
Kight will seek the advice of his older brother, Kevin, a former standout at Lithonia High. The elder Kight signed with Florida. This past fall, Kevin played some with the New England Patriots.
“He has gone through the process before,” Kight said. “He knows what type of questions to ask and what response I should look for.”

I am happy to hear something finally! I am also disappointed that he is not being mentioned as one of the top players in the state. How can the “so called” experts not have this player ranked extremely high. It is apparent to me that at some time during the year the “so called” experts get fixated on certain players and stop actually doing the research to find the best…but heck he was the AAAAA defensive player of the year…So how can he be below the radar? Can’t be his size. The guy from Tucker is 5’9 190…speed? He has been fast enough to make plays…exposure? Once again class AAAAA defensive player of the year. I just don’t get it. Good Luck to the young man, and I hope everyone takes a good close look at the people who are considered experts. In my opinion, they are no more experts then I am a sports writer.

I’m confident Joel will have more offers. He is a very manner able young man and a heck of an all around athlete. IMO, he’ll have a good shot as a RB or DB at the next level, if he goes D1. Patience is all he needs at this time.

UGA & Tech are going to regret letting this kid get out of the state. He’s not only a very good football player, but he’s also has what comes from good parenting, CHARACTER!

I agree, I know for a fact, Joel Kight is one of the top juniors in the state. This kid plays much bigger than his size. He will be a great benefactor for anyone’s Division-I program.

The difference between Kight and Davis is that Davis played RB and had an opportunity to display that skill set already. Joel didn’t run much because he was behind Jones. So big time colleges have not seen him run as much. Neither he nor Davis will play LB at a major college level.

Winners are winners. I suspect that the team the eventually gets him will find a place on the team at which he will contribute greatly.

I hear what you are saying and I would understand that, but I have seen Davis listed as LB on all the list that he is on. Nevertheless I believe Joel Kight will be a tremendous asset to whatever team is smart enough to sign him.

I wouldn’t be suprised to see Auburn make an offer if they have openings which is one reason he may not be getting some offers at this point. Kight is a very good player but teams have to have space, as he goes to camps and the fall season goes along he’ll definately get a lot more looks. He’s definately the kind of linebacker Auburn tends to like though. He was a huge part of ML Kings success, just give it some time. good luck JK.

As a former teacher of Joel Kight when he was in my elementary school gifted class, I know that he and his family will make an intelligent decision when it comes to where he will go. I remember him as a very good kid. Glad to hear that he is doing so well.
