Alabama and Tech set to offer Chamblee RB?

After attending junior days recently at Alabama and Georgia Tech, Chamblee running back Warren Norman will likely soon receive scholarship offers from both schools.

“My coach [Chamblee’s Jim Showfety] told me Alabama is pretty close to offering,“ Norman said Wednesday evening. “And I think Georgia Tech is close to offering too.”

Norman seems equally impressed with both programs.

“I really like Alabama,” he said. “They have a real nice campus and their weight room is one of the largest in the country.

“I got to meet some of the coaches when I was there. I talked to coach [Nick] Saban. He seemed like a great guy.

“And Tech was nice too. I got to talk with coach [Paul] Johnson. They actually run the same [triple option] offense we did at Chamblee [under outgoing coach Showfety]”

The 5-foot-10, 191-pound Norman is also being courted by Clemson, Florida State, Memphis, Middle Tennessee State, Notre Dame, N.C. State and South Carolina.

“Right now, my number one would probably be Florida State,” Norman said. “The rest is really up for grabs.

“I know I’m going to FSU for junior day on Apr. 12. I plan on attending a couple more [junior days], but that’s the one I know for sure I’m going to.”

Norman, who is currently running track for Chamblee, described his play at running back as balanced.

“Sometimes I like to run around the competition and sometimes I like to run through them,” he said.

FSU, in my opinion, might be a gamble - unless you are looking to play for a new head coach and maybe even a completely new offensive scheme……They have a storied history, but Bowden must be considering retirement in the next year or two….and FSU may be in Florida, but Tallahassee still looks like south Alabama. He has to think: “Where can I get the most playing time and exposure and a great education”.

You should go to FSU, the DAWGS wont offer you a scholarship, we get the 5 star backs. We HAVE to get CMR the indoor practice facility, it’s rediculous we don’t have it, with all the money the school waste, and a bigger wieght room.

78 DAWG, Are you keeping up with things? The weight room is in the works, as is the indoor facility. As for dissing this young man, it doesn’t say much for you. Show some class. He is proud of his accomplishments and we are stacked at running back. Just because we don’t offer doesn’t mean that under different circumstances we would not extend an offer to him. Think before you write, please.

78 Dawg, you’re right, ya’ll get the 5 stars and STILL CAN’T WIN ANY CHAMPIONSHIPS…oh yea, learn how to spell dumbarse!!!

‘ol dawg is a real dawg, 78 dawg is a want-a-be dawg.

Can’t you tell ‘ol dawg, the only time he’s been on a college campus is on Saturdays…so, it’s very unlikey he knows what “class” is.

I agree with ol dawg about 78 showing some class. The kid should be proud of himself and we are stacked at running back but for RAMBLE ON, I guess 2 SEC titles in the last 6 years doesnt count as championships. Oh well, I guess we just have to be proud of our 3 little BCS appearances. (sigh)

I read these blogs and shake my head about the garbage that some people spew. 78 Dawg is a fowl person that has not ever added one productive point to any blog and he seems to be compelled to write in every single one numerous times. It is people like him that take the fun out of the UGA/GT back anf forth.

I played for Pepper Rogers and Bill Curry. I have a deep love for GT and all things that are GT. Many of my best friends played at UGA. They have an equal respect for their school. We as ex-players do not share the same hate for the other school as many of the fans.

The good news is you can always tell a grad from either school. They are respectful to a point even when pushed to the edge by a HS dropout like 78 Dawg.

As far as comparing the schools, give me a break. They are completley different schools and can not be compared. GT is so unique and poses so many challanges that it can only be compared to handful of schools. Let’s face it, the average high quality student from UGA would do fine at GT if they wanted GT’s type of education. It is not the usual academic situation in most universities.

As far as sports goes UGA is a great program and we strive for the same excellence they have achieved. We most likely will not achieve it on a consistant basis because of the lack of diversity GT offers. On the other-hand, UGA get over yourselves! Your football progam is one of the most under-achieving programs in the history of college football. You have awesome fan support and loyalty. You have academics that are reasonible for most any top recruit to stay in school. You are always on the brink of greatness and almost NEVER achieve it while people all around you continue to win it all.

To close enjoy your schools! Enjoy reading idiots blogs! Show some class and root on these young people trying to excell and make decisions that are great for them and maybe not for you.

DJA55, think about what you just said. New coach? He is already there, Jimbo Fisher. This kid and everyone else knows that. New Offense. Fisher is the OC, the offense is already installed and been run for a year.

You have never been to Tallahassee if you think it looks like So. Alabama. Or vice versa.

Hello? Think McFly, think.

gt81;

You started out okay, but then turned into the exact same type of blogger you complained about.

As far as I am concerned, you give us old GA Tech alums as much of a bad name as those UGA’ers. I Know Pepper Rodgers (you misspelled his last name) and Bill Curry personally and can tell you that they would be appalled with your comments.

Let’s keep these blogs sports oriented and positive, for the kids sake, and maybe we can all learn a little more about what is going on. I would also remind all of you that good sportsmanship should extend beyond the playing field.

Thank you for the typo help!

Perhaps you should have dressed out and took the same beatings many of us have lived. The respect is there from all who actually played the game and went to school at GT.

As far as Pepper goes he feels exactly as I do and has stated it on numerous occasions and as far as B.C. goes virtually everyone who played under him hopes to never see him again. I would rather buy Bill Lewis lunch than have a free dinner in the same state as B.C.

The UGA comments about under-achieving come straight from my friends that actually played at UGA. They do not hide from the truth either. I hope for them the achievements they are looking for as long as it does not go through the flats!

We can agree on hoping the best for all the young men fortunate enough to make a decision on where they want to play at the next level. We can also agree on wishing the best for PJ and all who support GT. We do hope the respect will return to the flats!

gt81, What makes you think I never dressed out? For your information, I am a Multi-Year Letter Winner in Football at GA Tech.

I enjoyed some highs and lows, but had the privilege of Coach Bobby Dodd’s wisdom, even as you should have during his tenure as the AA during your “down” years, to keep things in perspective.

I love GA Tech, but respect the other Universities and the achievements of the other student athletes and what they go through day in, and day out. You, better than most, should be well aware of the struggles of two a days, extra study sessions, the disruption of travel to your every day schedule, to be more appreciative of what you, and they, have accomplished.

Do you condemn the entire University fan base because of a few rabid fans who don’t know the real sacrifices we made? I say be above all of that; show some of the GA Tech class that Coach Dodd preached, and support Coach Johnson and “DRad” as most of the “kids” now call him, with financial support.

Finally, I am really sorry to hear you speak so poorly of Bill Curry. While you may not like him personally, he is a fine man who represented GA Tech well as a player and a Coach. His decision to move on to Alabama was quite personal and difficult, but one none of us had all of the entire information to work from to base his decision on. Let it go…Its now Paul Johnson’s regime, and I think it will be one everyone will enjoy.

GTI & gt78, My take is that you guys are closer in your beliefs than you think. As another former player (& coach), I echo the feelings that it’s the fans that go off on these things much more than the players and coaches since there is a lot of mutual respect on the fields of friendly strife.

With respect to Norman looks like he could be a good fit at the A-back position, so I hope he gives us a good look.

So we have three Tech ex-players that agree on at least one thing — that the players respect those from other schools and are not the ones that spew the hatred and garbage so often found on these blogs. An intelligent discussion of college sports is most interesting, but name calling and insults are not only boring, but childish and classless. I will stick with the players.

Carolina Jacket, I agree with you.I grew up in a GT family, many from my high school played for Coach Dodd, and I was a die-hard Tech fan growing up.However, Tech did not offer my field of study, so I went to UGA because they did offer what I wanted. Not only the former players, but many of us old timers have great respect for each others programs, and many of us get sick of the”garbage spewing” that goes on in the blogs. Thanks for the insight from the former players, I know some from the State of Alabama, and each of them say the same thing, it is the fans, not the former players that carry that hatred between Auburn and Bama. A good, clean rivalry is fun, so let’s keep it at that and move on!

Like you guys said, you can get your point across without insulting anyone. Maybe “ramble on” can learn from you. Just kiddin ramble, keep doin your thing man. And I promise you, the one’s throwing around the most garbage have never set foot on a football field. I gurantee you the dawg athletes respect the heck out of the tech athletes, and vice versa.

And Rabun, I’m with ya man. If we can’t get a pay site, at least try and keep the “hate” clean and old fashioned, like it should be.

Sweet Home Alabama, man I do not think for one minute that you are an Alabama grad, or even a fan! No true Ala fan thinks for one minute that they will be National Champion next year! I am married to an A huge “Roll Tider”, and all of her family is also, but I hardly think that they believe what you are spouting forth!! Yes, they will be more competetive than last year, but #1,get serious! I hope the young man stays in state to play, and sounds as though Paul Johnson’s offense may be well suited for him.If he can’t play for the Dogs, I hope he shows up at the “flats”. Time to go watch some roundball anyway!!

Are you serious? Tallahassee looks like South Alabama. Have you ever even been to FSU’s campus? Are you a hetero male with a pulse?

I don’t know that FSU will offer b/c we have alot of prospects but this kid is good. AL has no room to talk about a new scheme and not much to go on. Applewhite left there to take a lower position in TX. You guys lost to us in the Gator Bowl and if not for an attempted comeback in the last 5 minutes it wouldn’t even have been close. You also lost to LA-Monroe.

You know what… how ridiculous do ya’ll sound. First of all I’m a die hard tech fan…. but I was born in S.C., and I love The Great State of Georgia to death… When tech I cheer for UGA every game… cept when they play GT of course…

It’s like this man… I’m tired of people going at it tooth and nails during recruiting… UGA gets him… Tech gets him… the arguements… I guess you all forget that both schools lose al ot of players to the schools in S.C., TN, FL, and Bama, all next door neighborhors… Border War gentlemen… we should be on here encouraging him to choose UGA or GT…

I’m a Chamblee High Graduate and former football player. I remember a time when some said Chamblee and the football world said who(?). The I remember when we were exicted someone got a I-AA offer… And I graduated in 00… this says a lot about the job the past two coaches have done not only with the players, but with the reputation. I’m proud of this kid just for garnering this level of interest…. I’m encouraging him to stay in-state at Tech… He can join Roddy again… yeah we got him too… Oh yeah and Chamblee happens to be a school with a grand academic reputation. I was a magnet student myself… Prolly still one of the top 100 public schools in the nation… So Tech would be a perfect fit… Especially with the Triple option being the system Johnson run’s… Hell I turned down GSU cause he left…

I’m not a fan of either UGA or GT, but I’m very interested in seeing how the Paul Johnson experiment goes. Personally, I think he’s a terrific coach, one of the best in the country and I think he’s going to convert a lot of disbelievers who think his offense won’t work in a big boy conference. Once he gets his talent level up with his type of players, GT is going to be no picnic to play. Don’t discount him in the passing game either, he’s going to be as diversified as he needs to be. He’s a winner and will do what it takes to win.

By the way, as a kid, one of my favorite players was Leon Hardeman at Tech, anyone else remember him or even heard of him?
