UGA, Tech in running for Myles
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Categories
Darren Myles has guided several players through the recruiting process while coaching at Douglass, Crim and Carver-Atlanta.
But this year’s process will be even more special for Myles, whose son, Darren Myles Jr., is a highly-recruited defensive back. The younger Myles has been offered by 16 schools, including Georgia and Georgia Tech.
The 6-foot-3, 185-pound athlete was a first team all-state selection after helping lead Carver-Atlanta to the Class AAA playoffs. He plays quarterback, wide receiver and safety for the Panthers, who are coached by his father.
“I’ve always guided the players as if they were my sons when it came to recruiting,” said Myles, who played running back at Purdue. “It is very special to see and go through it with your own son.”
The Myles family will spend most of the spring break in April touring college campuses at Tennessee, Auburn, Alabama, Kentucky, UCF and Purdue. He said he hasn’t started to narrow his list, but will after making some visits.
As a junior, Myles had 60 tackles, six interceptions and 10 pass breakups. On offense, he had 15 receptions for three touchdowns and passed for two touchdowns and ran for another seven.
“It is great having someone like my dad around who knows the process,” Myles said. “It has been a pretty fun experience so far. I don’t have any favorites yet; they are all equal.”
While the elder Myles is proud of his alma mater and often wears Purdue apparel, he said his son will make the final decision.
“I’m not pushing him in any direction,” Coach Myles said. “What was a good choice for me might not be the best for him. We are going to chose the right situation for him.”
Carver running back Demond Dennis also has been offered by Alabama. Last season, he rushed for 1,605 yards and 13 touchdowns.

Sounds like a good prospect. A lot better than Barack Hussein Osama, whom we don’t want as our President, nor do we need to hear his insane pastor’s racist mouth.
Back to football, looks like Tech is getting off to a good start recruiting.

Select a place where there are great academics and great football. Remember that the odds are very small for a pro career and you will need the education at some point in your future.
Of course, I would love it if you select GA Tech…. great academics and a great football tradition. In addition, it is in the middle of Atlanta with everything that has to offer. With a new coach, Johnson, we are building a new system where you can contribute from the ground, up - and where you also have a chance to start immediately. Become a Jacket!

Jacketnation; This is a sports blog. If you want to talk sports, please do so. If you want to talk politics, go somewhere else. Frankly, before you start calling anyone else a racist, maybe you need to read some of your own writings.
As far as Darren is concerned, he is a fine young man from a wonderful family. He will be successful no matter where he chooses to go because his priorities are in order. Congratulations, Coach Myles, family, and especially Darren Jr. You all deserve the credit.

Good luck Darren. I hope you choose the Jackets, but if you don’t, I sincerely hope you pick the right school for you.
I agree with Insider. Please state your political opinions on political blogs. Lets talk sports here.

Myles you can play (or ride the bench) for the DAWGS and then go home and work on a garbage truck when your eligiblity is up. You don’t have to go to class at UGA and you can get arrested as much as you want and only be suspended if the games not on tv. How you like that jacketnation? One low life scum deserves another.

Yeah, be a Jacket. Play in a half full stadium that’s so boring it’s like watching paint dry. That’s a lot better that a sold out stadium full of 92,700 crazy fans. Get a life Jackets with your punk program.

Darren Myles sounds like an excellent young man with a bright future. As a Georgia fan, I hope he lands in Athens but no matter what he decides, I wish him well. It sounds like his father has already instilled a great deal of wisdom in his son and is a tremendous asset to not only Darren Jr. but also to the other young men he has coached or coaches.

“78 Dawg”; Don’t stoop to their low standards. How about us “Techsters” try to keep these posts civil, even if others don’t?
If you don’t react, maybe they’ll eventually give up and go play somewhere else and let us real sports fans alone, regardless of whether we support GA Tech, UGA, Clemson, Auburn, Alabama, South Carolina, Florida, Tennessee, etc…

I should have included gt in sc in my last post. Guys, let’s be above it, please? We are better than that.
It’s one thing to talk sports, its something totally different to make these types of rude comments.

This story was posted on UGA’s recruiting site as well as GT, so I don’t think anyone can claim it “as their own.” As far as academics, these are the stats I found for 2003.
UGA: average GPA 3.76 and average SAT of 1232, GT: average SAT score of 1337 and GPA of 3.79 Also from personal experience, >50% of my medical school class is from UGA, ~20% is from GT.
I guess my point is this, all of this vitriol and hatred being spewed against UGA on this site is childish and only serves to make GT look like what you apparently despise so much about UGA (namely ignorant).
Back to topic, I hope this kid makes a good well-informed decision. If he is planning on playing WR in college I don’t see how Tech could possibly be a good fit given Johnson’s system, seems to me he would be a better fit in an offense that will pass (like UGA ). Other than that, Go Dawgs!

Darren Myles Jr. is being recruited as a free safety, but can play multi position. He is very athletic so whatever college gets him will definitely find a spot on the field, whether it is offense or defense, for him to play. He has been a four-year player for his father and has really come into his own as a player.

Dear wap,
Learn how to use inequalities in an equation (“greater than” and “less than” for the rest of you pupps). Your stats are meaningless. Even youu could make a 4.0 in kindergarten. What does that prove? Every Tech man who ever got out could kill the curve at Ugag, big deal. As for med school, no one who majors in Bio/pre-med at Tech ever stays in the program. If you want to get into any med school you have to go to an undergrad program where you can make grades - that ain’t Tech.
Get a life - anyone can get in Tech, betcha can’t get out!
I have a degree from Tech, a grad degree from Emory and Ugag. The one from Tech was like making it through the Navy SEAL program. The other two were like making through a couple of episodes of American Idol.
Whine to somebody else about nerds. Nerds rule the world - and end up with the best looking women!

So much hostility on here. First Jacketnation and now cadman. Nation doesn’t even warrant a response because everyone can read through his moronic statement but Cadman, why so bitter?? Have you been labeled a nerd and feeling a little sensitive? Why is the subject of women even a topic on the sports blog? Frankly, not all of the so called best looking women have brains to match, so you’re leaving yourself open to further ridicule. Coming from a former Navy Special Weapons and Tactics Veteran, I don’t think that a Tech degree is anywhere comparable to SEAL. As a matter of fact, I think there would be less than a 1% ratio of graduates who would make it through the 1st week of training; especially considering I don’t recall any nerds in any SEAL units that I know.
In saying all of this, let’s keep the sports blogs for sports and personal opinions about schools for somewhere else, like the stands at the game or something.

Zeno dawg, check out the stadium at VT. They’re perenially one of the best stadiums for fans, visitors and home, regularly get Game Day there, and actually have classy fans.
I’ve been there twice and it’s way louder than UM, UGA, FSU, Clemson, and other “big” stadiums. Trust me, when the fan base is right, 60,000 people can sound like a million in a quarterback’s ear.
But you’re right, our stadium has been half full at times. I don’t think you’ll be seeing that for long. Home run ball puts buts in seats. That’s what CPJ brings to the table.

Georgia Tech is in the hunt for Lamarlee Puff a 5’4” 380 lb. cornerback out of Doosh Nozzle South Carolina. In spite of his apparent size advantage the rising junior is sporting some serious speed. With a blazing 6.7 sec. 40 yd. dash, Tech has penciled Lamarlee as a starter. Defensive Coordinator Vern Asshat believes Puff will match up well against Chris Durham and Walter Hill. Coach Asshat was recently overheard saying, “We be likin dis kid against da Jawja wide outs, cuzz he gots da good mobility.”

Dr. Merkwurdigliebe, How srupid can you get? Aparently not much, because I think you just went over the top. Everyone knows this kid is comitted to UGA’s feeder school GMA. Course, that depends on his getting out of the state feeder school, which I think is where you got your BULL S* degree. Yep, Ga. Hosp. for the mentally impaired.
