Alabama & Georgia early favorites for Brookwood’s Williams

Brookwood offensive tackle Kellen Williams has attended junior days at Alabama and Georgia.

Now, the 6-foot-5, 288-pounder can only wait and hope that scholarship offers from the Crimson Tide, Dogs and other powerhouses arrive this spring.

“I’m talking to Alabama, Georgia, Vanderbilt, Clemson, Wake Forest, Florida and pretty much all the other SEC and ACC schools,” said Williams, who has offers from Central Florida and UAB. “And Notre Dame has become interested. They’ve started sending me stuff.”

Williams’ next offer could arrive as early as this weekend in Nashville, Tenn.

“I’m going to Vanderbilt on Saturday,” he said. “Me and my family are anticipating an offer from Vandy. They asked for my transcript last week.”

Williams is a longtime fan of both Alabama and Georgia.

“I grew up a fan of Georgia,” he said. “And I went to an Alabama game when I was a little kid and became a fan of that program. So, I’ve got a thing for Alabama.

“When I was at junior day in Tuscaloosa, [Alabama] coach [Nick] Saban pulled me and my family into his office for about 40 minutes and talked about the kind of character in players he’s looking for.”

Williams, who has dropped about 25 pounds since last season, is being primarily recruited at tackle.

Right now, it’s at offensive tackle,” he said. “But I’m what they call a tweener because I’m between a guard and tackle in size.”

It’s amazing the hypocrisy here in GA, everyone claims Bama is everything bad you can think of, but I would dare to say you GA fans might want to think of the attributes you are commenting on as you write some of the garbage I’ve seen here and other places. GA has a great team, but as fanbases go, the lunatic fringe is a little large.

Of course Bama and Character go together. I am assuming you meant cartoon character. I see Bama as Wile E. Coyote, you know, right when he runs off a cliff or gets an anvil dropped on his head (when you see the Acme device malfunction, just think Saban). Who am I kidding - it just as easily could be Foghorn Leghorn (but South Carolina has a chicken mascot). Daffy Duck?

UGA fans really don’t have any room to talk about having a classy coach! That coming from a coach who sends the whole team on the field to celebrate a touchdown! If that is what is considered class to the East, I had rather be considered as having a coach with no class. I really hope UGA wins a NC this year, seriously I do. I am tired of hearing all the talk and not doing anything with the talent you guys have every year. But I do hope ya’ll get your shot to stomp Ohio State this year as every other team from the SEC has done. Enjoy it, because Bama gets that a* in Atlanta in ‘09!

Thanks for proving my point. Roll Tide!

uga’s scholarships will be very limited next year and they don’t oversign,at least not on purpose.we have one o lineman already commited,so we must be judicious with our offers.i don’t think we should sign over two o linemen in 2009.uga played three freshman o linemen last season, has a couple more coming off red shirt, and signed three this year, possibly four, according to where harmon lines up.we don’t want to be short of manpower, like 2006,but we have other needs.te and fb are two that stand out to me.southerland and chandler will be graduating, ward is transfering, and allen switched to clemson.the dogs are looking at a 6’8”te from conyers.these recievers are getting harder for old matt to overthrow!

good post shane#1, I must say I was really impressed with UGA’s o line this year as I thought that would be an area our d could exploit, boy was I wrong. Herbstreat said that you got one of the best oline coaches in the nation and as young as your oline was this year and to perform how they did I would have to agree.

I look forward to the day, probably in December of ‘09,(BAMMER won’t be ready before) that Georgia plays Alabama for the SEC title. Lou Saban is a quitter and he is not a love child of “DA BEAR”. We are going to stick a great big HOBNAILED BOOT up their ANAL CANAL. If any of you Tide attendees want to know what that means just let me know your email. I do like some of the bammer players. I voted for John Parker Wilson as SEC freshman of the year last year. I realize he WASN’T a freshman, but he played like one. BAmmer fans, just remember, your presidential candidate Balak O’Bama will not win. Also, the BEAR is DEAD. Georgia was the Alabama state champion last year. The Bear is DEAD. Keep saying it and eventually you won’t expect so much of your coaches.

Hey BAMA…armed robbery much? Ms Williams, you can send your son to a team with a coach that lies, over and over again about his intentions, and recruits players that commit armed robbery. OR,you can send your son to coach that recruits players that might get a speeding ticket and the worst thing he has done is send his team on the field to celebrate.

Long time UGA fan / supporter here - Kellen go to the school that best meets your academic and football goals.

78 Dawg you obviously didn’t select a school for academic reasons assuming you even attended something beyond H.S. Moronic post like yours are a disgrace to Dawg fans.

wow, the middle schools in Georgia are missing a few prized scholars today, these grade school comebacks are about as lame as your attempt to aggitate a fan base using a dead man. I totally agree with JRL, if he does that we both might have to sweat as I think we all know Vandy has us beat there.

Rolltide 12, sending the players onto the field was as original of an idea as it gets. Just because no one else (coaches or fans) didn’t come up with the idea are P-ssed off and now makes it classless. Dang man it’s water under the bridge now, let it go. I just can’t wait to see what coach richt comes up with this year.

Saban talking about character, now that’s a good one. LOL!!

March 19, 2008 12:39 PM | Link to this

7Narow, you made the statement now back it up. what has saban ever done that is not of character? If you are basing this solely on his decision to return to college football you might as well keep your head in the ground or hang out at the local dairy queen telling everyone how you sure zinged us on that one. He left a pro level job for something he was better suited for. He did’t lie to kids or tell them to hold the rope as us bama fans can remember all to well. He suspended more players for more games this year than any other year in Bama history. The robery situation was regrettable, and the student is no longer enrolled at Alabama. Where in any of this is character lacking? Please remember if you want to site something current then chances are he probably enherited the player from a better qb than coach Mike Shula.
