Auburn, Clemson, Tennessee interested in Tamburo

North Gwinnett quarterback Mike Tamburo, who has a scholarship offer from Tulsa, is being heavily recruited by schools such as Alabama, Auburn, Clemson, East Carolina, Michigan State, South Carolina, South Florida, Tennessee, Texas Tech and Vanderbilt.

“South Florida says they’re 90 percent sure they’re going to offer me,” Tamburo said. “And Auburn and Tennessee are two schools that are interested in me. They both like me a lot, but they want to see me in camp.”

Tamburo, who recently attended junior days at Clemson at East Carolina, said the Bulls want him to visit their campus in Tampa.

“South Florida has a throwing camp in April that they want me to attend,” he said.

It is unlikely that Georgia will have a scholarship to offer the left-handed Tamburo. Oconee County quarterback Zach Mettenberger has already committed to the Dogs.

Georgia is expected to sign two quarterbacks in the class of 2009.

“[Georgia offensive coordinator] coach [Mike] Bobo was real up front and cool with me about it,” Tamburo said. “There’s a kid from Florida [Aaron Murray of Plant Senior High in Tampa] who has about 40 offers.

“They told me I’m one of the quarterbacks behind him, and depending on what happens with him will determine whether they offer me or not.”

The 6-foot-1, 205-pound Murray visited Athens last week.

First!!!

Coach Bobo…honesty is the best policy….good to see Tamburo talking like the class act he evidently is. Good luck to Tamburo..where ever he lands.

Tamburo is a 5’9” DivisionII quarterback. If he has any offer from any D1 program, he should take it immediately!

Tamburo will be fine at any major conference school if he gets his shot. Justmyopinion and Nancy must be fans of a rival school. I’ve seen the kid play several times and he’s smart with the ball, and will add some size with age. Stay away from Sprurrier young man. Good coach, but horrible to his QBs.

“Stay away from Spurrier”!? Are you serious! He’s only coached a Heisman QB and oh yeah, he was a Heisman QB!

Personally if Tamburo is only 5’9” I don’t want him as my QB but if Spurrier wants him that’s fine with me. He is the expert.

Why does Tamburo run in place when setting to throw?

Jeff Hood, are you related to Tamburo? You hype this kid like he’s the biggest thing to ever come out of Gwinnett County. He is not an SEC QB…hell, South Florida is wavering on an offer. Surely, there is more interesting recruiting news in the area, than to constantly write about a 2-star QB. AND, if he was that GREAT of an athlete, schools would be offering him to play another position, like safety. AND, I’m not from a rival school, i’m just being realistic. Quit writing about squibs you squib!!!

UGA is not interested in QB talent from the State of GA. Is there a reason for this? Stafford is from Texas; Cox is from NC; where are the other UGA QB’s from?

I guess the State of GA is only good for RB’s.

Is Tamburo only 5’9? I thought he was 6’2. He has a lot of upsize from what I understand. He should do fine where ever he decides to play.Drew Little of Henry Co. and Tanner Bryant of Landmark Christian are the only QB’s I saw play last year that stuck out in my mind, they are by far the best on the Southside in my opinion. Tanner is a huge Georgia fan but Tech says his style fits with Johnson. Drew, I think will go to Alabama. Tanner plays at a smaller school but he still was a big part of Camden County as a Freshman before transferring. 6’3, 181 and 4.52 in the forty at 16 years old. 90 + fastball. Frank Wren told me about this site. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k8_Bbn847Q4

Tamburo is a very good football player. He has great instincts and reacts well under pressure. Whereever he goes I think he’ll be a good asset to have on a team. Hopefully he’ll have a great senior year and get into a good school where he’ll get to play. It really dosen’t matter where it is.. hell Joe Flacco is getting NFL hype. Good luck Mike T. Choose the best school for you.

I wish Tamburo well in signing an athletic scholarship with a college or university. I have seen him play twice - vs. Tift Co. in ‘06 playoffs in person and vs. Lowndes in ‘07 playoffs on TV. He and his team were clearly not ready for the speed of the game in both cases. Tamburo benefits from a weak but overhyped region near Atlanta. I hope Tamburo will play for someone like Duke, Vandy or East Carolina - otherwise he will get sparse playing time.

justmyopinion, Scout.com has Tamburo listed as 6-1/178.

Saying someone on Scout.com is 6-1 means they are 5-11. He might be talented, but seems like a preferred walk-on at any good D-1 school. UGA won’t offer him. Auburn signed 3 QB’s last year and has bigger fish to fry at QB, maybe Clemson will offer him. Will have to go to a college’s camp and prove he is great and a special player to get an offer.

It’s a shame to see UGA offering players from Florida over players with very similar skills in Georgia. Where’s the in-state loyalty?

I have watched Mikey since ‘05 and he is a great talent. Smart football player who rarely makes mistakes. He IS 6’-1”+ as I am only 5’-10” and look up to this young man. His knock is arm strength. He might get passed up by some D1 schools due to this but his football smarts will compenstate for some of this. He will end up at a D1 school next year. Good luck Mikey and I look forward to seeing you finish out your high school career this year with another run for a state title.

Mikey - may be very SMART. But if you don’t have arm strength and speed, SMARTS is only good in the classroom. Lowndes ate him and his team alive with their speed and aggressiveness and the college game is even worse. Mikey is a runner and not DI type runner. On Saturdays, you are trying to throw GO routes and post patterns, not solve calculus problems. As for Richt and UGA not going for in State QBS, I think they just go for the BEST QB that is available Nationwide. Thank God they have a reputation and option to do that. Oh wait, weren’t David Greene, DJ Shockley and Joe Tereshinki from GA.

Why on God’s green earth would you bring the guy’s girlfriend into a conversation about his playing abilities? Bottom line is that these schools scout the hell out of prospective players. If UGA didn’t offer him there is a reason - they don’t think he has as much potential as the players they did tender. Where he is from, and certainly what his girlfriend looks like, will count very little towards a scholarship offer. Sounds like he has some interest from some pretty good schools, so good luck to the kid.

Allright heres the deal. I go to school with Mikey. He’s in my LA class right now. First off, he’s 6’2”. No doubt about it. Yeah he’s not as built like the other guys but he’s close, and believe me, he is SMART when it comes to football. Maybe not in the classroom, but by far the smartest kid in football terms. He’d love to get the chance to go to a nice D1 school but he told me all he cares about right now is improving during his senior year. He’ll get better and colleges will focus on him more. He’ll be fine. Good luck Mikey!
