First class of 2009 commitment for Auburn

Auburn collected a commitment from junior defensive end Terrance Coleman of Williams High in Mobile, Ala. on Sunday.

It was the Tigers’ first pledge from the class of 2009.

“I wanted to make an early decision and get it out of the way so I can focus on my grades,” Coleman told Inside the Auburn Tigers. “I’m committed to Auburn. I made my mind up today.”

The 6-foot-1, 250-pound Coleman is the cousin of current Auburn defensive end Antonio Coleman.

What? Auburn gets a commitment out of Mobile? I figured the bammers had that area locked down. Ha! Should be a great defensive tackle, or maybe move him to center on offense. Welcome to Auburn Terrance, and WAR EAGLE!

Focus on grades? Auburn doesn’t have standards…. that is just an excuse…..

Auburn is an academic joke period…… A 3rd grade reading level will give you an advantage at that school. Why would anyone go to Awbarn over Alabama, Troy, UAB, or Samford?

wow 6-1 250, things are really looking up for the big ear coach. Maybe a 6 foot 240 lb.o/t is next.

Why on earth is the AJC reporting on a Bama player committing to a Bama school?! I could see it if a metro kid committed there, but cmon, what’s next… big story on a kid from Fayetteville committing to Arkansas or Greenville committing to Clemson? Leave that to Rivals, Scout and their own state’s papers for cryin outloud. Hey I think somebody from Dade just committed to Miami, where’s their story?!

gastud, I hope you and gtech are kidding. Auburn engineering schools were rated higher than Tech, UGA vet schools ranks below Auburn, Our football graduation rate is 69% to mid thirties for both being last in ACC and SEC.. Last year with exception of Miami, Auburn had more players with degrees playing on the field. There is no doubt both schools have outstanding schools for high education, but to make the statement Auburn is an academic joke or 3rd grade reading level probably means either have attended class at Tech or UGA..

Ha ha. Auburn sucks. I think of all those poor kids in Atlanta who can’t get in to UGA — they settle for Auburn. I dated a girl in High School, nasty beeatch, did not get in to UGA, went to Auburn. She was a star there!

Auburn sucks, and that’s all I have to say about that.

I have punched many a War Eagle/Tiger square in the nose, make me giggle every time I think about it.

Weagle weagle weagle! War Tiger?

Good God, its in Alabama, an a* of a state — they thank God for Mississippi & Tennessee (banjo).

If I remember correctly, wasn’t Auburn recently investigated over giving grades to FB players regardless of their achievement? Have you noticed what has happened to Auburn’s recruiting rankings since the NCAA disallowed using the TWO personal jets to ferry blue-chippers? Just a matter of time….

The Auburn alum is correct— they are not an academic joke. But kids who cannot get into UGA somehow wind up at other SEC universities.

30 years ago, if someone from Georgia couldn’t get into UGA, they looked at other in-state options like GA Southern, Valdosta, or West GA. Now they have other SEC options like Auburn, Alabama, Ole Miss, and Tennessee.

Bob, you either didn’t graduate from UGA, or you’re an idiot. Thirty years ago, UGA had open admission. And for all of you other UGA-loving morons, UGA still has virtually open admission for transfer students. That means if you have a detectable pulse, you’re admitted.

Granted, UGA has a great athletic tradition, but as for academics, Emory and Tech are the only institutions that matter in this state.

Good luck to the young man. It’s good to see a kid get this important decision out of the way so he may focus on academics, instead of how many recruiting trips he can take.

Emoryu:

What an overblown, asinine comment to make about the state’s flagship university! To say that “Tech and Emory are the only institutions that matter in this state” as far as academics goes is to discount the contributions of most of the state’s business people, veterinarians, journalists, lawyers, teachers and doctors (yes, I know U. Ga. doesn’t have a medical school—yet—but more premed students who stay in Georgia come out of Athens than any other undergrad school in the state). Emory’s a good school, and an asset to the state; of that there is no doubt. The same is true for Tech. But the state could do a lot worse than the University of Georgia as a state university. Generally speaking, Georgia is rated as the third-best academic SEC school overall (after Vandy and Florida), and there are certain areas that it is truly outstanding in. Admission is certainly much more highly selective than it was thirty years ago (when it wasn’t actually open admission but “rolling admission,” with admissions continuing until the class was filled), and the average SAT of the freshman class last year was ~1240, with a high school GPA averaging about 3.75. That’s not too shabby, given the size of the freshman class, and the Honors Program remains a source of incredible achievement (witness the two Rhodes Scholars from Georgia this year).

Given that most Emory graduates are Ivy League wanna-bes who return to the Northeast when they leave and never return to Georgia except for college reunions, and given that Tech grads often have to leave the state to get the engineering jobs that are available, I would venture that the University of Georgia’s graduates—many of whom stay right here after graduation—are more “academically relevant” TO THIS STATE than either Emory or Tech grads.

Go back to Massachusetts, Emoryu. It’s carpetbaggers like you who give Yankees a bad name.

Sorry to be a downer. I am a huge AU Fan and love college football(mainly SEC) but did you realize 28 young men and women , many the sames ages of the young recruits we follow on a daily basis, have died in Iraq this month alone from small arms fire and roadside IEDs. It is called perspective, I think many times we as humans lose it. College Football is just a game, no reason to hate one another over it.

First off…he will probably play LB (for all those talking about his size). Nick Saban said that he is one of the best defensive high school players he has ever seen. His uncle plays for Auburn and a top DE’s in the SEC (they’re the same size…hybrid LB/DE)…and jayjay is a little baby that lives on blogs and trashes Auburn every chance you get (favorite word is mediocrity). And for TedTurner, I got into both UGA and Auburn and Southern California for that matter and decided to go to Auburn because its smaller and nicer than UGA and has the #2 architecture program in the country(im from the metro Atlanta area too). And about punching folks in the face from AU…I hope sometime you find me and try that. If I am ever punched by someone because I go to Auburn…it will be over. I bench 515lbs and squat 945lbs…I don’t think you would f*** with me if you saw me Ted.

Just to alleviate any confusion, I am a graduate of both Vanderbilt and Emory, born and raised in Atlanta. Nobody, I mean nobody who gets into both UGA and Auburn chooses to go to Auburn. UGA and Tech get more transfer applications from Auburn than any other school in the country! That includes in-state schools. However, only about 3.4% of those are accepted because of Auburn’s lack of academic reputation and inability to produce talented students. This comes from a source working at the University SYSTEM of Georgia office. Sorry but the truth sometimes hurts.

You’re wrong about nobody, nobody…Auburn has the best architecture school in the south, so somebody serious about architecture would choose to go to Auburn assuming they have the money to pay for it. Being a Vanderbilt and Emory graduate I would think that you are smart enough to not make blanket statements that are easily disprovable.

Let’s see. I’m an Auburn fan at Georgia Tech…. and pretty much everyone from my high school either went to Georgia out of highschool or went to Georgia by way of Gainesville State. Listen to me: ANYONE can transfer into Georgia. Literally most of the biggest retards at my HS are in Georgia now because Georgia’s transfer admission standards are a joke. And about the comment about Auburn having high transfer requests to Georgia, your numbers are just wrong because it doesn’t hold a candle to all the sub SAT 1000 schools in our state and almost all of them get in.

That said… Auburn’s engineering programs do not rank above GT. Not close.

Here’s a good story for you UGA grads. I had a neighbor when I lived in Marietta that had two bulldogs. One got really sick and needed urgent care; the kind of care you get at University Vet clinics. He did some research about where to go, packed up his pet in his car and…wait for it…went to AU. His dog lived.

It speaks volumes that you people question a young man’s intelligence because of football decision. Let him focus on what he wants to do and you guys can gloat on winning the all important off season national championship.

Let me say that graduation rates have a direct, positive correlation to academic rigor. I will dumb it down for you dogs: higher the rate, better quality of student. So Harvard graduates students that enter as freshmen at a greater rate than East Tennessee State. So do not give the argument that low graduation rates at UGA for football players means the coursework is more difficult as you are wrong. If that was the case U of Alabama must the most difficult school in the world since they once went about 10 years without graduating any male scholarship basketball players.

And let us never forget JAN KEMP

Wow, so many AU haters! I was accepted at GT, Vandy, Auburn and UGA. UGA doesn’t have a curriculum that provides anything worth 4 years of education unless you go for Pre-Law. AU has VetMed, Arch, Eng, Computer Science and oh by the way, the top rated Building Science program in the country. Just ask the CEO’s and Presidents of all your major Construction Firms in the South. UGA is a joke, the worst of the students from high school get into UGA via some community college or something. Let’s be real. The best thing about UGA is its party scene, that’s it!
