North Clayton’s Dieke commits to Georgia Tech
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Categories
He has yet to attend a football game at Georgia Tech.
But a visit to Tech earlier this month was enough to convince North Clayton junior Emanuel Dieke to commit to the Jackets late last week.
“I really liked the coaches I met on junior day,” Dieke said. “They sat down and talked to me and told me how much they wanted me there.
“And I just like the campus.”
The 6-foot-7, 205-pound Dieke will be one of the tallest defensive ends in Tech school history. The center for the North Clayton basketball team, Dieke has no aspirations to tryout for coach Paul Hewitt’s squad.
“It will be strictly football,” Dieke said.
He had been considering East Carolina, North Carolina, Mississippi State and Rutgers.
Dieke broke the news to Tech coach Paul Johnson on Friday.
“He was happy,” Dieke said. “He told me he’s glad to have me onboard.”

I believe we will have a very successful season in 2008. But even more, we need to take advantage of a great opportunity in 2009 and that is that Muttland at this writing, only has 13 scholarships available. That may change if folks go pro early, but right now, that is it. I am sure the other schools in the SEC and ACC know this too.
Let’s seize the moment!!!

For those of you who have not heard yet, John Drew, a big DT from Northside High School out of Columbus, Georgia, also committed to GA Tech today. John is 6’3” and weighs 295 pounds. His fastest 40 has been timed at 4.87.
He has been recruited heavily by Georgia, Clemson, Auburn, and Alabama.

Scott, That was the first thing I thought of when I saw North Clayton. I hope he is looking for a place to transfer to right now.
He apparently has the grades, but he won’t get in without the accreditation unless the Board of Regents makes some kind of special exception for all of Clayton grads. That really stinks for all of the kids down in Clayton.

Well Well Well.. The Dog fans are coming to our blog for fun. Guess the Jiffy Lube was closed for Presidents Day and they all got vacation. If only Little E could have won Daytona they would have all stayed up late trying to spoon up on their step-sisters. If the “stars” made the story UGAG would have ten titles and not just the one H. Walker gave them. Spurrier said it best, they always have the best recruiting class and I always beat them, how is that? Tech folks relax, we will be fine, we have a man with passion and desire. The future is bright. UGA will also have many more scholarships next year, 5 of the current class are not going to see campus…..GRADES!!!!!

First of all, Georgia fans come to the Tech blog for amusement. It’s a freak show, sort of like going to see The Elephant Man or JoJo the Dog-Faced Boy at the fair. To see all of the puerile, frantic postings of the Jacket faithful as the streak just keeps getting longer is simultaneously fascinating and just a little sad.
That being said, I have nothing against Emanuel Dieke and wish the young man the best. He’s tall and he’s young—he’ll probably be a fine athlete at Tech after a redshirt year, which would put him on the field as a redshirt freshman in 2010. By 2012, his junior year, Paul Johnson may have Tech competitive again. Of course, the Georgia win streak will have run out to 11 games by then….
I’m not going to go out on a limb like some of my fellow Dawg fans and predict a national title for Georgia. Too many variables involved in that one. Georgia will win between 10 and 13 games next season against what may be the toughest schedule in the country. That’s about all I can be 100% certain of. However, you don’t need a crystal ball to see that Tech will not be competitive with Georgia in 2008 or 2009. With 18 starters gone from last year’s squad, Tech will be a very young in 2008, and facing a loaded Georgia team that has beaten the Jackets every year since Mark Richt took the reins in Athens. Paul Johnson will have the Jackets ready to compete in the ACC after two seasons, but Georgia’s in a different league (literally and figuratively). No matter how innovative the offensive scheme is, the system won’t win games for you if you don’t have the athletes, and Tech simply doesn’t. Perpetuating delusions that the Jackets will even keep it close against Georgia in 2008 and/or 2009 is just setting Tech fans up for a letdown when the inevitable happens. I’d be patient with Paul Johnson, and realistic. His offense is a complicated scheme. It will work. He’ll win some games because of it. But beating Georgia next season, or in 2009, is a Yellow Jacket crack-pipe fantasy (or, if one wants to evoke the memory of the inestimable Reuben Houston, a bale-of -ganja fantasy).
Oh, and Sidney, take an English class. Or at least activate the grammar prompt on your computer. Your punctuation is ridiculous. This is a public forum. Don’t humiliate yourself.

First, Al it is Wofford, not Wafford. Clearly a product of the agricultural institution. Second, CPJ doesn’t need to recruit 5 stars all the time. All the rankings are based off of the players effectiveness in a pro-style offense. Since that is NOT what Tech runs the rankings are a little different. As for the “dawg” fans that feel they need to post over on this blog. I have come to the conclusion that when you don’t have a job and are sitting in your trailer just outside of Athens, you can only rehash the “glory” days of high school with Bobby Jo and Jim Bob so many times. Thus they come to this blog to try to match intellectual wits and inevitably fall flat on their faces. THWG!

I appreciate the comments from “UgAy Rules” regarding my post’s contribution to this blog’s status as a freak show. Just doing my part.
BTW, my post was actually meant as a dose of reality. I didn’t say Tech wouldn’t ever beat Georgia. Moreover, I think Paul Johnson will win at Tech, as he is an excellent coach—probably the best selection as a Tech head coach since Bobby Ross (O’Leary was a good coach, but his appearance at Tech coincided with the Goff/Donnan tenure, so the competition in Athens was not as brisk). I simply stated that Tech fans shouldn’t get all fired up about beating Georgia next season, as it is extremely unlikely, even with the “new offense,” as the dawgs return too much talent. Hardly the sort of comment that warrant excretory references, but whatever…

Hello Techsters’ Since your new committment has never been to a Tech game, make sure some one brings him this fall for free hot dog and drink day. That will really seal the deal. Show him the statistics where you’ve sold a “whole bunch” of season tickets. Not all, but a whole bunch. If he knows that the Grunt field is going to be over half full some of the time, I guarantee you that East Carolina will not sneak in the back door and take this one away from you at the last minute. Rutgers, however, may be a different story.

Someone referred to the UGA bloggers as “graduates.” The horrendous grammar and spelling I’ve seen indicates the UGA bloggers never graduated from high school, much less college. I think these old boys come over to Tech’s blog to make an effort at enhancing their reading and writing skills. I’ve never visited UGA’s blog, but I suppose it’s nothing but a bouquet of senseless incomprehensible rhetorical garbage that uneducated inmates write on the bathroom wall. Needless to say, I don’t blame the old boys for trying their hand at some intelligent blogging. Keep working at it boys, maybe one day you’ll spell Coach Richt’s name correctly. Maybe one day you’ll read an article and actually comprehend it correctly before posting dim-witted egalitarian remarks.

At 6’7” 205 lbs, it is true that he is definitely going to have to put on some weight. Hopefully he will begin to by his senior season, then when he gets to Tech they’ll definitely bulk him up. That’s assuming he ends up at Tech, because such an early committment means almost nothing. It just shows what school has the early lead/edge. The same goes for UGA’s early committs.

I stand corrected, I received some bad information about Junior Day. Also, I’m not a Gailey supporter, I love Coach Johnson and his new staff. But I’m just stating that all of these recruits were Giff Smith’s and Coach Kelly’s, I’m still waiting for Coach Johnson to start bringing in some top-notch offensive talent. I think he did well in limited time in the 2008 class for the record.

The last time I checked the goal of every team at the beginning of the season was to win the NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP. Congrats to UGA for their recent success in SEC Titles and Top 5 finishes. But be honest who cares? That is not the goal and you know it. It is a disappointment not to win it all with so much hype and talent every year. All that matters is who is #1 at the end of the year. As I recall over the last 28 years UGA and Tech have exactly the same #1 finishes (yes Tech was the UPI #1 but, we were tied with a team that got FIVE downs to stay undefeated) Having said that, UGA has been the better team over the past decade but to say you will never lose to Tech again is insipid and ignorant. Personally I’d like to see Tech and UGA ranked #1 and #2 going into that game every year. What a game that would be and how good would that reflect on the State of Georgia’s quality of football.

Dawg75, I’m sure you don’t even know where these buildings are, but the next time you are in Athens, take a walk around your science departments-Bio, Chem, Physics, etc., then get back to me. Not everybody majors in knot tying and bird watching.

FYI, Georgia wanted John Drew so badly that they didn’t even offer him a scholaship. Check scout.com to verify.
Without John Drew, how will our program ever survive?????

From scout.com interview with John Drew (a direct quote):
I have a lot of schools that I hear from almost daily. Georgia, Clemson, Auburn, Alabama, Boston College, Wake Forest, Florida, LSU, and Mississippi State are the ones I hear from the most.
Why would Georgia offer him when he’s already solid on Tech? Sometimes you have to look at more than who offered.

One thing that ugay does with their 5 star recruits - get them arrested for dui, public fighting, etc.
Ugay is quickly overtaking FSU and Miami as the ‘thug’ school. These talented high school players barely qualify to attend college, go to ugay, then end up partying their a$$ off. They don’t get a degree and likely end up in jail.
But, the “bulldog nation” doesn’t care as long as they get wins. Sounds a lot like FSU, doen’t it?
However, with all of the top recruits, the elusive MNC is still outside of their grasp.
Nice. Real nice. A place that any respectable person wants to attend, right?
So, you ugay people need to clean up your own house before you come over to the Tech blog talking trash!

Hey Techsters, we come on your blog because you’re just so much fun to mess with. Your’re so easy to rile and you take the bait every time. You can’t insult us no matter what you say because frankly, we don’t care. You can’t lick us because “that dog would bite you!”

Hey Jaded Jacket:
The next time you have to go under the knife and your surgeon is a UGA Med School grad lets hope you don’t look up and down your nose at his abilities. You see you don’t have a med school and we don’t have an engineering school. They are different disciplines. I respect Tech for what it is and UGA for what it is. Now you don’t think your football players are getting engineering degrees do you? With rare exception, I think not. What do they call the football track? Oh, industrial management. About the same as home economics.

Reality, Understand the point, but I believe the proof is already there with the 2008 class. We got a Parade AA as well as some sweet under-the-radar types who fit CPJ’s system that we only got because of the new staff members. Again, I think Johnson deserves a lot of credit for keeping the three Gailey staff members he did. I was hoping we would keep Giff and may be one more, but felt like we won the trifeccta when he announced all three would remain. Keep the faith, more good news to follow…

Actually no 5-star recruit has ever been arrested at UGA, check your facts. And your statement referring to Miami and FSU, you couldn’t be more out of the park, we haven’t had near as many arrests as those schools, as well as less than most schools nationally. Also, it is a slow sports news day so the AJC decided to print up a Tech article, what else do you expect? The Techies are writing in on UGA articles all the time. You need to quit posting what the men at your job tell you to and actually get a brain of your own.
And Chucktown, of course the kid said all the big SEC programs were after him, he didn’t want everyone thinking he was just a Div. III prospect. It’s kinda like bluffing in poker…

UGA does not have a med school, the med schools are at MCG and Emory. Georgia does offer an engineering degree. Get you facts straight.

I’m just offering to use some common sense on the Drew kid. If Georgia was so big on this fella, why wouldn’t they offer him a scholarship? They obviously have no problem offering juniors, so maybe they just aren’t as interested as the young man would like to believe.
Gotta go, Bobby Bowden is on hold for me and I need to call Charlie Weis back.

To all of you “adults”: It is time to start acting like you actually are old enough to have attended the Universities you are supporting.
These young men have worked hard to not only earn athletic scholarships, but to also qualify academically, no matter what University they choose to play for. That takes a lot more than the bravado that most of you are spouting off.
In fact, most of you have ever even stepped onto a Division One field in your life, unless it was play intramural, after a game, or when you played in the band, and here you are insulting these kids for doing something you couldn’t yourself. Get real people.
Congratulate the young men, their families, and their coaches, enjoy the rivalries, and start acting like adults. College football is supposed to be fun. Let’s keep it that way.

GAWGA WILL LOSE TO FLORIDA, AT LSU, and AT AUBURN and play in the Peach Bowl in 09. No matter how good you think you are in pre-season…..
Its the toughest schedule in America next year and you still think you’ll win the national title!! I think Tech sneaks up and wins b/c your heads are all too swollen right now.

Well stated, GTI. As I posted a couple of weeks ago, most smack bloggers never even played in high school, much less D-I college. Those of us who played in college simply roll our eyes and shake our heads…

UGA has better sports and better academics than Tech. We’ve beaten Tech in everything so far this year, just like we did last year, and football the last 7. We even have Roads scholars. Where are Tech’s?

Actually, at UGAy it is the “Dirt Roads” scholarship that is awarded to the finest athlete/tractor driver each year. They study at Oxfart U in South Georgia (or wherever else they park the trailer that week).

Blackdog, let it go, for months now we have all had to witness your obsession with Stafford and wanting to be with him. McMicheal and Thurman both had trouble in the NFL, not UGA and Thurman was a 4 for the record.
GTI, thanks Dad, you and NOVA playing ping-pong at the student center together doesn’t constitute playing D-I ball. In fact, I am willing to wager the only reason you posted you played college ball was to get that false sense of fulfilment in knowing other people have read you played so it must be true. Quit lying to yourself, just because you donate some money and your wife is the secretary at the atheletic dorm doesn’t make you an insider.
