Washington County’s Watts leaning toward Tech

Georgia Tech is the early favorite to land a commitment from Washington County junior Brandon Watts.

The 6-foot-2, 215-pound linebacker has scholarship offers from the Jackets, Auburn, Clemson and N.C. State.

Tech and new coach Paul Johnson earned high marks from Watts during his junior day visit earlier this month.

“I got to meet coach Johnson,” Watts said. “He’s a really good guy. We got to take a tour of the campus and went to a basketball game.

“I really like the big city.”

Watts, who resides in Tennille and is a power forward for the Washington County basketball team, said he’s trying to arrange visits to other colleges around his winter sports schedule.

Though Tech is his front-runner, it’s unlikely he’ll commit anytime soon.

“I’m just taking my time,” he said.

Jay, pull your head out of your arse, if you can. We already have a commit from one of the top DL in the nation, JC Lanier. You have to be a UGAY fan, your a freaking idiot!!

JP, you know JC Lanier was never offered by UGA. He actually is projected as an OL in college. Major weight issues! Keep on recruiting UGA’s leftovers, they gotta go somewhere.

JP you could be right.Dawgs have a heck of a tough schedule this year! Little bad luck and untimely injuries we could lose 3. But the nern herd won’t be one of them!!!!!!

Reading these comments are all you need to understanding why every school in the sec laughs at GA.
1) you recruit ANYBODY, even if they can’t graduate from your pathetic GA high schools. 2) Year after year they can’t even get in at GA, which everyone knows has the lowest academic standards the ncaa will allow. 3) Off the field - the one’s that do get in are drink, don’t go to class or graduate (lowest in the sec EVERY year). 4) On the field - Act like fools after EVERY play, Every play. 5) Fans TALK, TALK, TALK, for a whole year after the once a decade defeat of Florida. 6) Every recruit that doesn’t want to go to GA, you didnt’ want him or he’s fat or he couldn’t play at GA, You act like half-wit 8 year olds. No school has less class, right down to CMR. You’re just Florida State north. lol.

I love me some winnig Auburn football. But, but you dawg fans gotta realize, other schools actually care about academic integrity and the behavior of everyone representing the school. It’s not all about winning. And ya’ll don’t even win that much. I know…………next year…….

aynirh, you are exactly right. It doesn’t matter who we recruit, they can’t match the underachievers standards. We use to beat ya’ll with these “second tier” athletes, and should have these past few years, but we were out coached. We’re coming, and you guys know it. Sometimes, the rooster that crows the loudest ain’t such a good thing, but keep on squawking!

Listen. Auburn fans, you have got to be kidding me. Have you not witnessed the score of the football games the last 2 years. And Tech fans, 7 straight. These blogs are the biggest bunch of bull s%&* in the world. Losers get on here and try to defend their teams honor because they suck so bad on the football field. Get a life. Listen I graduated from Tech and pulled for UGA the whole time I was in school there. If that doesn’t tell you how bad the team is than what does?

As a “new” Ga Tech fan (USNA grad that hopes to see Paul Johnson do well), I am shocked by the classless posts on this blog. Just because Ga Tech-UGA are rivals doesn’t mean that posts have to be completely tasteless. Army-Navy is just as heated as Ga Tech-UGA, but it’s a Gentlemen’s Rivalry. Let’s talk SPORTS…and not 8th Grade insults.

By GA Tech insider

February 18, 2008 12:55 PM | Link to this

“New” Tech Fan, I’m sorry to say that many of the posters you will find on these blogs have the maturity level of a three year old, and unfortunately, they “support” all teams, including GA Tech.

I will say that there are great posts you will enjoy as well, if you can stomach the garbage, from all sides, including UGA fans. Hang in there.

There will be some good natured ribbing now and again, but be prepared for many that don’t know when they go too far, or what is appropriate for public forums. Maybe they just don’t care and the AJC isn’t interested in the FCC fining them for public indecency.

My suggestion to you is that if you want to post, and someone replies with aggression, insults, or filth, ignore them, no matter how badly they bait you. The old saying in South Georgia is to never wrestle with a pig. You both get dirty and the pig enjoys it. Unfortunately, I have forgotten my own advice at times and gotten into no win debates with the losers. Trust me. It isn’t worth it.

Also, let be be the first to welcome you to the Flats!

Ok let’s set the record straight here. WE DON’T CARE IF OUR RECRUITS ARE 5 STAR PLAYERS. We run a system where the coach decides who is the best fit for their program. PERIOD. Tech has had to deal with NCAA penalties, high academic standards, more narrow focus of curriculum, and less money. Considering that your school, with 4 and 5 star players only beat us by 3 in 2006 and only beat us by 7 in 2005, even though you guys were playing against 3 star players… is pathetic. At least we can unleash our players’ potential

Hilarious … the first 2 blogs are GA fans! Gotta love their interest in the goings-on at Tech. They would never ADMIT to being scared of what lies ahead — losses to TECH (starting in ‘08), but they know they’re coming.

The last 7 match-ups vs. Tech have turned out great for GA fans…great. And now they are scared b/c they know how much of an ally Chan Gailey (& Reggie Ball) were for their beloved team. Hell, the past 4 meetings, 3 for sure, should have been Tech wins, even with their allies in place. Now those allies are gone, and, frankly, that scares the @$%! out of them. Again, they won’t admit it though.

David never beats Goliath, right??? That’s impossible, right??? Knocking a recruit’s talent/ability b/c they either weren’t offered from or didn’t commit to GA. That’s why it is going to be that much sweeter when Tech beats GA in Nov. 2008. Paul Johnson is a winner, and GA fans know that — their fear is obvious, just read the Tech blogs, ha, ha.

Being a Tech grad and living in the “other Georgia” I see many UGAY fans. Most never graduated High School. Those that went to UGAY have half wit jobs (congrats on the doorman job at Sam’s- he was an 1987 grad) If it weren’t for a “good” 2nd tier football team you guys would have nothing. A Tech grad’s potential lifetime earnings are many times that of a UGAY grad. Most students go to college to have a good life not play football. So good luck with your game and non-High School grad fans. After all per Hemingway the only true sports are Hunting, Fishing, Boxing and Racing, the others are merely games. You have heard of Hemingway?

By Wreck

February 18, 2008 3:01 PM | Link to this

Wmeir, I’m a Georgia Tech alumni, and I must say your post is ridiculously exaggerated before you spur more nonsense posts from UGA supporters. The difference in earnings between Tech & UGA grads are no way near “many times” greater for Tech. Although Tech is generally the more highly regarded & rated school academically, UGA is a great university with many of its graduates securing great jobs/careers. UGA is a broader school with many more curriculum/program offerings than Tech, and many of those offered at both about as high or more highly regarded/rated at UGA than Tech.

I understand that GA Tech just got two new defensive commitments this afternoon;

1)Emanuel Dieke, a 6-foot-7 inch, 205 pound, Defensive End out of College Park (GA) and

2)John Drew, a 6-foot-3 inch, 295 pound, Defensive Tackle out of Columbus (GA) Northside.

Welcome to both of you!

Actually, Wreck, I’m a Tech student, and last I checked our management program rated higher than uga’s business school. And, as a Tech grad, I’m sure you know what we engineers think about our management majors (I’ll give you a hint-most of our athletes are MGT majors!). And of course, uga’s business school is one of its highest-esteemed programs. I think you can see where I’m going with this. I’m not saying uga is a completely useless school, I am simply saying that my comparing GT’s academics to that of the other school is a complete embarrassment to the Institute.

NovaJacket, I don’t think anyone will be able to say that UGA wasn’t going after Mr. Drew heavily.

Both of these recruits are outstanding young men and will be great additions to the University when they enroll. Congratulations to them, and their families, on their choice, as well as to the coaching staff for their hard work.

By the truth

February 18, 2008 5:07 PM | Link to this

UGA has some good programs but most of them are graduate schools. If I wanted to be a lawyer or a vet or something I would possibly consider UGA for graduate school, but for the most part pick any 4 year degree from Tech and any 4 year degree from UGA and you will better off with the Tech degree nearly everytime.

I graduated from Tech two years ago and live a very comfortable life, own a house, car, etc. All of my friends that went to UGA rent an apartment and try to sell me insurance, mortages, computers, whatever. I’m not sure what their degrees were in but it seems like they work a lot harder and make a lot less money. That is the facts.

It looks like GT stole the DT (Drew) commit from UGA. I think the in-state talent is seeing the writing on the wall - GT is by far the better school! By the way, the amount of interest the UGA fans show in GT football astounds me. I love it!!

UGA fans are such idiots. Under their current coach they have had a top 10 recruiting class every year, but that is all they have to show for it. Tech has done well with their below average recruiting class, but UGA also wins the underchiever award each year. Once again I don’t have a dog in this fight, but I enjoy watching two groups of yo-yos glare each other down.

Hey there nerd fans,

When is the incessant whining regarding UGA football going to end? With all the brains you guys have, you figure one day you’d realize that the Dawg nation is simply dominate over GT in all facets of life. And in case you forgot: 31-17, 15-12, 14-7, 19-13, 34-17, 51-7, 31-17. How’s Reggie Ball doing these days?
