Gators and Wildcats offer Henry County junior receiver

Henry County junior Jamal Patterson picked up scholarship offers from Florida and Kentucky earlier today.

The 6-foot-3, 200-pound receiver was offered by Wake Forest on Saturday during junior day activities in Winston-Salem, N.C.

He already had offers from Army, Clemson, Indiana, Purdue, Stanford and Troy.

“Things are looking good right now,” Patterson said Monday evening. “A lot of coaches have been coming in and getting a copy of my highlight tape and a copy of my transcript from my counselor.”

More offers will likely arrive in the weeks to come.

“Georgia is interested,” Patterson said. “[Georgia defensive coordinator] coach [Willie] Martinez has come by. I think they’ll offer. Southern Cal has been in touch with my coach, and Auburn has been by.”

As for Georgia Tech, receivers aren’t in major demand in coach Paul Johnson’s run-oriented offense.

“Georgia Tech was recruiting me heavily when coach [Chan] Gailey was there,” Patterson said. “But now they run the triple-option, so I don’t hear from them as much.”

Patterson, who plans to attend junior day at Central Florida on Saturday, appears to be in no hurry to commit.

“I have no favorites; it’s fair game for everyone,” he said. “I’ll weigh my options out. I’ll probably just wait so I can get the experience of going to all the camps of schools that interest me.”
