North Gwinnett’s Tamburo to visit Central Florida

North Gwinnett junior Mike Tamburo plans to visit Central Florida on Friday.

Tamburo was scheduled to journey to Tuscaloosa, Ala. last weekend to attend Alabama’s junior day. But the 6-foot-1, 180-pound quarterback had a change of heart at the last moment and visited Columbia, S.C. instead.

“I ended up changing my about Alabama and went to South Carolina because a few of my teammates went,” Tamburo said. “I was over there with Kenny Barnes, Tyler Jarry, Cordero Dixon and Austin Shepherd.”

Tamburo, who believes he is close to receiving his first scholarship offer, was impressed the Gamecocks.

“I got to talk to coach [Steve] Spurrier and my recruiting coordinator, Shane Beamer,” Tamburo said. “I’d love to play in the SEC.

“South Carolina’s stadium is awesome and their facility is real nice. While I was there, I got to talk to their tight end Jared Cook, who went to North Gwinnett.”

Am I the only one to notice that Steve Spurrier has never had a black Q.B?

Hello…McFly…Is anybody there… His big QB recruit this year is black…And don’t forget the starting QB next year will be Stephen Garcia (a Hispanic). Don’t try to start something here please…

And I almost forgot Syvelle Newton, the most productive QB we have had in the last 5 years at least.

I heard Ealey RB, ECI 2008 commit is 19 years and will more than likely be a non-qualifier.If he enrolls in fall of 2009, he will be 20 plus years old. This is not a heavy source. but know asst. coach at ECI and will find out.

He fits Spurrier’s mold for a QB, and will probably flourish in his system, when they are not playing the SEC defenses. Mikey is not bad, but I have seen what a serious defense can do to him, Lowndes. Hopefully he can mature from those meltdowns and have a great college career.

Tamburo is decent in the ATL area, he has been down south twice and got smoked both times, the SEC will eat him alive, assuming he ever sees playing time…AKA Joe Cox @UGA. Good luck though!!!

me thinks Tamburo realized playing time was unrealistic as talent floats into T’Town. Much better chance of playing at SC. Bama is stockpiling talent over the last couple years.

This guy is not an SEC calliber quarterback. The trip to the state finals was a fluke. There were as many as 4 other teams that were better than his in the other bracket. If he wants playing time in college he should take a serious look at West Georgia or Valdosta State.

Tamburo can play at any level in college with a good blocking line.He was mauled in the championship game. His team was outmatched. He could use 20lbs.

Williams Brice Stadium is a great place to play football. Hell at least there is not a graveyard behind it like at Georgia or Clemson, the graveyards of college football. Both programs suck!!

All these articles about Tamburo, he is not even the highest ranked prospect in the COunty. Kevin Minter has 8 offers in hand already. Tamburo has none. He is a great QB, but let’s not crown him aheead of others

Spurrier will be retiring soon—he can’t win there and why stay around, losing 4-5 games every year and going to minor bowls.

Well now, Tamburo is the real deal at QB. He is without question the best QB I have seen in Georgia in awhile. He’s mobile, he’s accurate and he’s cool as a cucumber much like David Greene who also, by the way, played in Gwinnett County. Something that the brain trust at UGA seems to overlook on some recruits. Gwinnett County players are more prepared to play at the college level when they arrive on college campuses than anywhere else in the state of Georgia. UGA would do well to start recruiting more heavily in Gwinnett and stop letting some really good players get out of state. Heyward at Ohio State, the Irons boys at Auburn, Auburn’s best receiver Rod Smith was a walkon from South Gwinnett, Butler from Norcross, the list goes on and on. Mark Richt talks about locking down the state, he might try locking down a county 45 minutes from where he sleeps.

Dear Mr. SickandTired, Please re-read my screen name. For every above average athelete in Gwinnett, there’s two in Dekalb. I will not disrespect the kids you named with a negative comment, but I would remind you that Gwinnett and Dekalb are the two largest counties. Meaning that you’re going to have alot of athletes fall through the cracks because you can not give all the kids scholarships. Also, Tamburo is not the real deal for the SEC!

Jeff Hood, are you a idiot? Why are you spending time on this kid? He is not even a big time recrute. No offers means there are better players out there. He is a good HS QB, not going to play in the SEC. are you getting paid to write about this kid to help him, maybe you should write about some of the JR’s with offers in hand….this kid is a joke.

Black quarterbacks are rare. More often they are mocha or caramel colored.

Syvelle Newton and incoming recruit Aramis Hillary are African American persons.

Ealey doesn’t have to qualify, he committed to UGA. Also there won’t be any crying about underage drinking from the moment he steps through the arch.

How does North Gwinnett’s lost in the 5A finals equate to Tamburo being overrated? This isn’t wrestling or tennis. FB is a team sport and there are a number of outstanding players who played on horrible HS teams let alone a team that lost in the state finals. You scout individual talent and tendencies as a recruiter so you try to adjust for things like his Oline have a bad game, etc.

Mikey is a special talent who can play at the highest level of Division 1. He has outstanding feet, a strong arm, and an ability to sense pressue and escape. He could probably use about 3 plus inches of height to be considered an “ideal” prosect, but the kid can really play.

NG never even made the state playoffs until 6 years ago and now everyone wants to make it appear that Tamburo’s success is due to the favorable treatment that NG gets from the media. Crazy.

Who cares if he hasn’t ever had a black QB??? (which he clearly has) Why does that even matter?

Fulton Co. is the biggest county, not Gwinnett and Dekalb. The state of Ga. as a whole is stacked with talent. Trying to compare who’s county has the most college talent is a waste of time.

I would tend to think if this kid was the real deal he would already have at least 1 offer.

After seeing him play against Prattville High of Alabama and Lowndes County, he would be fortunate to get consideration to play college football from Shorter College,Berry College or LaGrange College.

Some of you guys crack me up. All of the sudden you are an expert on evaluating talent. So what you are saying Coaches and/or Recruiting Coordinators for South Carolina, Alabama, Central Florida and more to come, who do this for a living, do not know how to evaluate talent but you do? What a joke and you probably got picked last on the playground as a kid. I played College football for Erk at Ga. Southern in the 80’s we played a Div.1 school (Florida, Florida State, Auburn, Georgia, etc. ever year.I also played high school with two retired NFL players that played over 10 yrs at Chamblee. I also coach at the North Gwinnett Youth league for 8 yrs.I am not saying this to brag but to say I have some credibility for evaluating talent. I have seen this kid play about 17 times. He has started as a sophomore. And he definitely has the skill to play DIV. 1 and maybe SEC football. The coaches know that he is only 16 and he will get bigger and stronger. As far as the games that his team has lost. Last time I checked QB’s dont play defense Offensive Line, Receiver , etc. This crap about he didnt beat so and so is ridiculous. He is not the only one on the team. He is still only a junior and has one more year to come so he will get better. There are are alot of players that dont get recruited until later. The talent pool in Gwinnett is so rich because geograhically it is huge and very populated. Not saying Dekalb, South Ga. doesnt but per capita Gwinnett has tons of talent. I see at the pop warner level because that is where it starts. Most intelligent people make objective unbiased opinions based on evidence. Not here, either you are ignorant on his talent, only seen him play a couple of times (State Championship),play at a rival school, You are from S. Ga. and feel slighted by AJC, or you are just going by his height and weight.

Rock, you dont know what you are talking about. seriously, explain why he has NO offers. you are the expert, what are schools waiting for? and if you think he is 16 you are dumb. I hear this kid is going to be 20 when he graduates…explain that.

Alex, Youre right. I dont know what I’m talking about. Neither does College recruiters. But you do. Listen I know Coach Paul Johnson, Coach Mike Sewak, Coach/Recruiting Coordinator Giff Smith, Whom I roomed with at Southern. Maybe I can get you a Recruiting Spot with them. Cause you are good.SO what you are saying is all schools have already offered everyone that is on their board a scholarship. And if you dont get an offer for 2009 in Feb. of 08 then you are not a Div. 1 prospect? That was a nice try though. Helluva of an effort. You also said I dont what I’m talking about and I’m the expert in the same paragraph. Here’s a novel idea. Increase your dosage. WHo cares how old he is? He still has a year left. That is what you heard? From who? Let me guess you little brother dated his sister’s cousin in 1997? By you saying he is a joke in your previous post tells me everything about you. By the way did I ever say he was a top prospect? No I said he was Div.1 prospect and maybe SEC. Keep up the good work. You got my vote. Write me back when the short bus drops you off. I will let you know when the dragoncon convention is back in town
