Walton’s Thomas settles on Stanford

Walton defensive lineman Chase Thomas will turn off his alarm clock, roll out of bed and immediately head to the fax machine this morning.

“When I wake up, I’ll sign my letter [of intent] at my house and fax it over to Stanford,” Thomas said. “Later in the morning, I’ll have a press conference with my teammates.

“We’ve got about 10 guys at Walton who are signing.”

Auburn appeared to be the front-runner for Thomas during much of the fall. But he pulled a mild surprise by committing by going west and committing to Stanford.

“I think, for me, it was playing time,” Thomas said. “I think I’ll get a lot of playing time at Stanford, and I didn’t see myself getting it at some of the SEC schools.

“And the academics there is great. And their coaches are some of the most personal and energetic people I’ve met.”

Thomas plans to enroll at Stanford during the second week in June.
