Tri-Cities star first to arrive in Buckhead

There will be bigger names coming into ESPN Zone to sign football scholarships today, but Brian Atkinson of Tri-Cities was first in the door.

Getting up at 5 a.m. and saving his appetite for the breakfast buffet, the 6-foot-2, 300-pound tackle arrived at 7:45 a.m. with his mother Sonja, brother Jordan and uncle John Morris. He’ll sign with Clark Atlanta.

“This is a big experience for me,” said Atkinson, who plans to study broadcasting at Clark. “It’s very cool to come here and be part of it.”

“And it’s a full scholarship,” Sonja Atkinson said.

“Yes, a full scholarship, and a chance to be a four-year starter.”
