Spartans have big plans for Sprayberry safety

Brynden Trawick, the Sprayberry free safety who signed this morning, has been told by Michigan State coaches that he could start as a true freshman, Sprayberry coach Billy Shackelford said.

“He was No. 1 on their recruiting boards,” Shackleford said. “A lot of times, the biggest thing for kids making the high school-to-college jump is the size and strength and speed of the game, but Brandon already has those.

“A lot of NFL free safeties aren’t that big. From what [Michigan State] saw, they felt like he was the best guy they saw for their need in the country.”

Trawick, ranked the No. 68 safety nationally by Scout.com, is 6-3, 215.
