Safety a good fit for Tech-bound Taylor

Cooper Taylor of Marist is fine with giving up quarterback to play safety at Georgia Tech.

Taylor, who signed and faxed his national letter of intent this morning at Marist, said he feels more comfortable at safety, where he started for the War Eagles his sophomore and junior seasons.

“This year they wanted me to play quarterback so I did,” said Taylor, who attended the Signing Day Spectacular at ESPN Zone with his parents and grandparents. “But I like safety.”

The 6-foot-5, 195-pounder said he was skeptical of his August commitment to the Yellow Jackets after the departure of head coach Chan Gailey, because “the people who recruited me were gone.” he said.

“But by the end, I was very excited with Coach [Paul] Johnson and what he wants to do.”
