QB Tuggle makes ex-NFL star dad proud

Justin Tuggle’s start in football included his famous father’s jersey number (58) and position (linebacker).

But it didn’t last long for the Northview quarterback, who signed with Boston College on Wednesday.

“It was with the Alpharetta Eagles,” recalled Jessie Tuggle, the former Atlanta Falcon who played 14 years in the NFL. “At 14, he just fell into the quarterback spot.”

Jessie Tuggle couldn’t have been happier Wednesday, as he and wife DuJuan attended the Signing Day Spectacular at ESPN Zone in Buckhead with their star son. The elder Tuggle said Wednesday topped even his induction into the National College Football Hall of Fame last summer.

“I’m very proud,” Jessie Tuggle said. “I know what kind of work it took for him to get here. … He had to work twice as hard because [of expectations that come with] being raised as an NFL kid.”

The day was also special for Justin Tuggle, who started in the third grade playing linebacker and running back for the Alpharetta team.

Northview had five players sign Wednesday, four with Division I schools.

“The highlight of the season is today,” Justin said. “It all counted down to today.”

Tuggle expects to be redshirted as a freshman at BC.
