Harmon to UGA is official

First, he was pretty sure he was going to Georgia. Then, he was committed to playing for Clemson. In the end, the Bulldogs are about to get their man.
Jefferson County offensive tackle A.J. Harmon made his final commitment at last month’s All-American Bowl in San Antonio, ending a roller coaster recruiting process that saw the Dogs move up and down his list before coming out on top. He signed with UGA shortly after 9 a.m. today.
Finally putting an end to the speculation and the recruiting process gave Harmon a little room to breathe for the first time in awhile.
“It was a big relief to know where I was going,” Harmon said. “It was like a big monkey on my back. It was a great feeling to stand up in front of those people. Now you can do everything you want to do.”
It certainly wasn’t easy for the 6-foot-5 1/2, 228-pound Harmon, who is arguably the state’s best tackle in the 2008 class.
He liked what he saw in Athens and Clemson, leading him to waffle for awhile on where to go. He heard plenty of talk from friends and classmates about how he should stay in state, but he says it didn’t affect his decision.
When he did decide on Georgia, the hardest part may have been cutting ties with the Tigers.
“I was just about crying on the phone, talking to Clemson,” Harmon said. “The people that recruited me did a great job. I’m not the type of guy who goes back after saying yes. It was difficult for me to tell them I’m not going there.”
Once he did, he became part of one of the top recruiting classes in the country, as the Bulldogs have pulled in almost all of the state’s best prospects.
It’s not a bad place to end up.
“It’s bananas, man,” Harmon said, of Georgia’s recruiting class. “Almost everybody’s an All-American. It’s going to be fun. I’m just ready to get to practice.”

Jeff: I live about 10 miles from A. J. Harmon and I believe 228 lbs. is mighty light. Try 328. Go Dawgs.

Speaking of waffles, he needs to eat some if he’s only 228lbs. Something tells me that might be a bit off.
