Gators get Lawrence

Florida lost out on the race to get the nation’s top receiver in Julio Jones of Foley, Ala. But later in the day the Gators got some good news by signing wide receiver T.J. Lawrence out of Lakeland.

Lawrence, who was also considering South Carolina, was one of the best wide receiver prospects in the state. He had a huge junior season at Kathleen High School when he caught 52 passes for 1,245 yards, and 15 touchdowns.

Florida needed something good to happen as two other verbal commitments changed their minds and did not sign with the Gators on Wednesday. Lakeland offensive lineman Ricky Barnum signed with Michigan while linebacker Ramon Buchanan said no to the Gators and signed with Miami.
