Florida-bound Hunter glad it’s over

Buford’s Omar Hunter created quite a stir in January.

That’s when the 6-foot-2, 300-pound defensive tackle, who is rated the second-best at his position in the nation by Scout.com, withdrew his commitment to Notre Dame.

Hunter will officially become a Florida Gator at 9 a.m. today when he signs a letter of intent at the Gwinnett County school.

“I am definitely glad this is over,” Hunter said late Tuesday evening. “It’s been an all-time high with people, newspapers and websites blowing up my phone.

“I’m definitely looking forward to getting down to Gainesville. I think it’s the place for me. I can’t wait to get down there and go to work.”

Hunter, who is scheduled to enroll at Florida on June 1, will be joined in Gainesville by Buford teammate T.J. Pridemore.

“It’s exciting to have somebody you’ve been around all of your life going to the same school,” Hunter said. “T.J. is like my brother. I’ve been playing with T.J. since the seventh grade.”
