Fighting words: Jaybo Shaw ready to ‘beat Georgia’

Flowery Branch quarterback Jaybo Shaw was up front with new Georgia Tech coach Paul Johnson the first time they met. The senior may also have been a little ambitious.

“I told [Johnson] that I was going to be his first quarterback to beat Georgia,” said Shaw, who backed out of a commitment to Middle Tennessee for a verbal commitment to the Yellow Jackets. “He liked the sound of that.”

Johnson’s sure to like more about Shaw than that. The talented dual threat quarterback broke every offensive record at Flowery Branch and is likely the perfect fit for the former Navy coach’s option attack.

Shaw, who has been running the option offense since he was age 5, signed this morning with the Yellow Jackets. The man faxing his paperwork couldn’t have been happier.

“You see dreams come true,” said Lee Shaw, Flowery Branch’s coach and Jaybo’s father. “This has been a dream since he was a boy, I’m just so happy for him.

“He was just a skinny little kid his freshmen year, then he sort of transformed, you know the way Friday nights tend to do. Now he has a chance to be special the next level.”

Shaw received offers from Middle Tennessee and South Florida. The latter offered him a chance to play slot receiver until a spot on the depth chart opened at quarterback.

But Shaw only wanted to play quarterback, so he committed to the Blue Raiders. Then Johnson came calling and everything changed.

“I was being recruited by coach [Chan] Gailey, but when I got to talk to coach Johnson, it was just perfect,” Jaybo Shaw said. “It’s close to home. It’s major Division I, ACC football. What’s not to like?”

Johnson didn’t have to work hard to sell Georgia Tech to the father either. Bobby Dodd Stadium is three hours closer than Murfreesboro, Tenn.

“I don’t get to be a parent too much,” Lee Shaw said. “It only took about 30 seconds with coach Johnson to see how driven he is. He could sell you Georgia Tech in about 30 seconds. He’s just a good man, and a man I want my son playing for.”

I like Jaybo..

Have seen him lead the Falcons on the field..

Let’s see, by the time he’s “on the field” for the NATS, they’ll have already lost 10 straight to the Dawgs…

He might not get his wish…

Good luck Jaybo.. ‘Cept the Saturday after Thanksgiving

WOW, Tech has probably moved all the way up to 75th on Rival and Scout rankings with their two steals. One from Vandy. who I now find out has played football for ONE year?! And that’s probably Tech’s biggest signee. And another who’s initial commit was to MTSU?! I’m sure Richt has already called an emergency meeting of his Coaches to begin developing a plan on how to stop this Landslide known as the Tech Powerhouse!!! Woe is me! Woe is me! Pleas Tech fans don’t be so cruel and inhumane to us poor pitiful UGA fans and our weak little team.

Let me also tell you mutts that if Paul Johnson was coaching tech 5 years ago, we might be talking differently about THE Reggie Ball. He would have been a good fit as well. Games are won by the team that wants it the most. Jaybo wants it.

How ironic the first 6 or 7 post from dawg fans. You know there is a freshman named Michael Beasley that plays basketball for Kansas St. He said they were going to beat rival Kansas both times this year. And they did. It’s the competitiveness this program needs to be successful. I admit it’s a bold statement for someone who hasn’t even put on a uniform, but he already realizes the importance of that game. Lets face it UGA has the right to pound there chest, and belittle us Tech fans. We haven’t stepped up and showed we deserve their respect. We won’t be favored going into Athens next year, and we will have everything against us. Sounds like a team from New York who just won some game this past Sunday. Anyway, I’ll embrace the roll of the underdog and look forward to next year. Welcome Mr .Shaw, we look forward to your tenure with the Jackets.

To the UGA fans - You guys are really pathetic. So Jaybo talks about a goal, to beat UGA, and you are so arrogant to think it presumptuous of him to even have that goal? Good God yall put too much of you personal self worth into kids playing a college sport. Get a life you pathetic bunch of losers. To Jaybo - Thanks for choosing Georgia Tech. You will be rewarded in life with a great football experience and a college degree that will pay off many times over what you can get anywhere else in the SE, especially in this state. I look forward to seeing you play on Saturdays, especially the last one in November!

You’re already a perfect fit. An overrated option QB from a AAA school going to play the option against elite athletes in college.

Yeah, that’s gonna work out for you.

In four years, we’ll hear Shaw say that not beating Georgia doesn’t bother him too much, dog.

Also… wtf is a “Jaybo.” It’s like his parents couldn’t decide between Jay or Bo and combined them into one of the most redneckiest name I’ve ever heard.

If Johnson wants win on a regular biases at GT he’ll need to recruit D1 players not players who are borderline D1 & D1AA. Tech is a BCS school not GSU or Navy! So Shaw ran his mouth. So did Ball. Will he even see the field? He’ll be the one to beat UGA, LOL give me a break! (This is akin to Clausen saying last year that ND would win 4 National Championships LOL.) If this is the kind of kid Johnson is going to attract then good luck at making that O work in the big time college football. I thought from early reports it would be more like a spread option attack but now it seems he’s determined to run the same old stuff. If he mixes in a passing game it might work but the more I hear the less worried I get. Go DAWGS!

Actually gt..quaildawg was looking at the list of colleges for quality academic standings and you will have to excuse the fact when he was looking at the school coming in at #75 he overlooked the fact that the word Georgia didn’t have the word Tech behind it. He (or maybe she?)did get a degree in quail hunting from that #75 school though so you do have to appreciate that.

a) God’s second choice if the word “elbow” didn’t work out

b) A miniature bow that you hunt blue jays with

c) Rambo’s nephew

d) The name that finally replaced Bubba and Billy Bob as Redneckiest Name in the World

Hmmm… I believe the answer is d), Regis. Final answer.

Tony - UGA doesn’t win a NC because they can’t. If they could, they would have done so. Mark - Techies don’t think a degree from GT is still far superior to a UGA degree - we know it. Ask any company if they had the choice to choose from two candidates with the exact same degree, one from UGA and one from Tech, which do you think they would take. Exactly - a degree from Tech will always, hands down, be superior than the same degree from UGA. Engineering turf management is not an option at Tech. THWG

A bit of reality here….

UGA will always have a recruiting edge on Ga. Tech. This is because Tech gives kids a quality education and in academic fields that are traditionally very tough. Georgia is 3 times larger than Tech and offers remedial course work for kids who barely can finish HS. Secondly, with all the “success” that Georgia has in recruiting and such, they have only managed 1 National Championship in Football. Considering all the “advantages” they have in recruiting, I would be ashmaed that they haven’t won more. However, Dawg fans are too stupid to realize this. Tech will always have more class and respect than Georgia.

By Bryan G

February 6, 2008 1:31 PM | Link to this

um, Jaime…

espn.com lists him as the #68 QB in the country. So while he may be the #8 “dual threat”, there were 67 QBs that were rated ahead of him. So….that would mean he is not, in fact, in the top 50.

Apparently that Calculus 8 class you took at Tech did not help you with simple math. But, hey…way to call someone a stupid redneck with incorrect facts. Actually Beauski was right and you’re the dumba$s.

BobinBuford… no, what you do hear, is that when a good player (not the Redneck Kid from Flowery Branch) picks Bugland over Georgia, they usually find themselves with a HEAP of regret three or four years later…

you know… like that big tall wide receiver y’all had who could never score on us and is a BUST in the NFL, too?

Quaildawg, you are a sad, sad, man.

You are spending entirely too much time on a GT board barking about how we are flattering ourselves by thinking that you would look up GT ranking. What else are we supposed to think when you have been posting on this topic non-stop for the last two hours? It is always the same old thing over and over; “we have a recruiting class in the top 5” (but you still can’t manage to make it to the big game, year after year after year) or that we are nerds (ooooh, please don’t hurt my feelings by posting that I am by your own admission smarter than you are).

Also, before any of you redneck, nascar watching, trailer living idiots make fun of anyone’s name — take a look at your beloved roster: Marquise, Rowdy (talk about redneck), Knowshon, Rennie, Kiante, Demiko, Naderris, Corvey.

Nascarfan and Beeauski, here are some good names to chew on, Bacarri (must of been drinking some when he was born), Knowshon (no I don’t know Shaun), Akeem, Tavarres, Makiri (isn’t that a girl singer) Jarius, Aron (with one A), Neland (I guess he wanted to go to Tennessee but got turned down), Rennie(parents must have wanted a girl).

Also… wtf is a “Jaybo.” It’s like his parents couldn’t decide between Jay or Bo and combined them into one of the most redneckiest name I’ve ever heard.

WTF is a Knowshon ? Is Shon supposed to be “Sean” ? If so his parents should pick up a f’ing Speak N’ Spell (or borrow one from the UGA English department). If it is supposed to be “Sean” then does he “Know of” another person named “Sean” ? I’ll bet his mom did.

Mark:

What do all those UGA football players who majored in Leisure Studies do after they leave Georgia?? And have you EVER heard of a UGA recruit saying they picked UGA over GT because of the quality education they would get there?? Seems like the reverse is what usually happens.

And if a UGA degree is worth so much in the working world, why does UGA have a billboard on I-85 begging people to hire UGA grads?

Also, please name the UGA turf management majors who have million dollar homes.

Calvin DID score against UGA and he was NOT a bust in the NFL, just injured and still the 2nd best rookie in the league. He WILL be THE best receiver in the league when healthy. As for recruiting I’ve said it before - Why does UGA with all of their so-called Super recruits struggle to beat Tech and their so-called high school talent every year? Are their recruits (the ones who can pass a couple of basket-weaving courses and don’t end up in jail) actually overrated or does their coaching suck that bad? Or is it both? You lucked out not having to play Southern Cal, Missouri, etc. in a bowl. Prepare for disappointment in 2008.

Uh Brian G, go back and read my statement. I stated he was the #8 dual threat QB in the nation. I made a mistake, he’s #10. I didn’t say there weren’t 67 qb’s ahead of him and obviously Rivals.com thinks pretty high of the kid, rating him #10 in the nation. A UGA degree BETTER than Tech degree? I’m pretty tired of hearing that from people who have absolutley nothing to back it up with. Our management school (which is what all of our athletes major in). Is ranked higher than your bussiness school which is supposed to be so great. UGA has gotten harder to get into but it is still the same joke of an education once you get there.

Umm… last I checked, we don’t struggle to beat you… BECAUSE WE BEAT YOU!!!

The reason why our team may come out flat for a game against Bugland? Well, there are MANY reasons.

After playing against the most talented teams in the nation for nine weeks, our guys are naturally a bit bummed with having to play an opponent who’s own ineptitude adversely affects our BCS rating.

It’s true… Tech being a crappy football team is what kept us out of the Championship Game. If they were half as good as the trash their fans think they’re worthy of talking, then us beating Tech every year would actually help us out.

Another reason: The Tech game follows the last SEC game of the year, and for us, that either means we need our players to rest up for the SEC Championship Game, or our players are let down because we didn’t make it this year (under Richt, we make the trip to Atlanta on average of every other year).

Another reason: Because we’re so awesome and your team knows it’s the idiot, red-headed stepchild of the state, they play the game like it’s their bowl game (which explains why, when Bugland makes the annual trip to scenic Boise, they lay a gigantic turd against supposedly bad teams).

Our guys… they’re just not as excited to be playing the Bugs as your playnerds are about playing us. Well, everyone but the Immortal Reggie Ball, because losing to Georgia, “Ain’t no big deal, dog. They ain’t even in our conference.”

So I spelled it out for you. Can’t believe you couldn’t figure it out on your own, I mean after trumpeting your smartness at every step of the way to make up for your social retardation, virginal status, and small penis size, I figured you’d have figured it out without my input.

I’m sure they love hearing you say you’re going to be the first when your definetly not going to start as a freshmen.

So you’re basically telling your teammates that untill you start at QB thay they won’t beat UGA.

Sounds like the kid who couldn’t beat several AAA schools is hung on himself.

You might have been the best two-loss team in the country, but you still were a two-loss team.

Been there, done that, long since outgrown the t-shirt (middle age is a beeyotch). A dose of perspective would be good for what ails you.

Quick—how many UGA home games did you watch (or see in person) when Donnan was coach? Did you know Donnan was coach? Who was coach before Donnan? Before Dooley?

UGA and Tech have been playing football loooong before you were even born, and both have been through sucky times.

You were in diapers when Tech won its last national championship. You weren’t even born when Jan Kemp was a household name in the Bulldog Nation. You weren’t even born when Tech had an ACC losing streak that spanned four seasons. But I was there, butt in seat, drinking my whiskey clear (or at least in a Coke—MIIIIXXXXEERRRSSS!).

I wasn’t even born? Big talk, Bug, considering you don’t know when I was born. Wow… you social retards really need to work on the smack talk. At least your redneck QB of the future has a little fire in him. So did Reggie, until we pounded it out of him.

Once again, I can just tell that Ole’ Jaybo is a perfect fit for that No. 1 jersey. It’s waiting for you, Jayblow! You know you want to wear it.

Oh, and I finally figured out what Jaybo means. My friend is a student in the Anthropology Dept. here at UGA and is minoring in ancient Redneckian culture.

Jaybo is a name from an early form of the redneckian language, from an isolated tribe in northern Georgia. If I’m correct in my translation, Jaybo is a noun and it’s definition, broken down in the simplest of terms means: the Bulldog’s Beeyotch.

How is family had to foresight to give him this name is amazing. My friend’s hypothesis is that he must be a child of prophecy, doomed to oversee the building historical losing streak of the Social Retards of Bugland against the valiant Bulldogs of Georgia.

I love anthropology. It can explain so much.

I DO know about when you were born…considering you’re a current UGA student, as you mentioned in your other blog postings.

That means you’re about 18-22 years old. That means you were born in about 1986 to 1989.

OK, you might have been born when Tech had its four-season ACC losing streak (started in 1986, ended in 1989), and you MIGHT have been out of diapers when GT had its national championship in 1990.

But my points remain…including the suggestion that you get some perspective and grow up, and getting some social skills that don’t involve sticking rulers in people’s britches.
