Eight Marietta players, the most of any school in Cobb County, were set to sign at 11:30 a.m. in the school’s media center.
“The one I think might be a sleeper is [wide receiver] Anthony Weldon,’’ said Marietta coach Friday Richards. “He’s a real academic kid, a good little ole athlete. If he sticks with it, he’s going to be real good.’’
Weldon signed with Air Force.
Other signees were linebacker Albert Cortez and defensive back Devin Floyd to Clark-Atlanta, running back Haasan Green, defensive back Kelsey Turner and quarterback Stanley Jennings to Dean Junior College, receiver Jeremy Hill to Ball State and lineman Josh Garrett to Morehead State.
Trey Charles, a top receiver and kick returner and state champion in the 400 meters, signed a track and field scholarship with Mississippi State. He was offered a football scholarship by Middle Tennessee State, Richards said.
More than 100 Marietta players have signed football scholarships in Richards’ 13 seasons as head coach.
