Allen kept Clemson in his mind
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Categories
The signing day drama was supposed to be over weeks ago for Georgia.
Tight end Dwayne Allen made sure that was not the case. The tight end from Terry Sanford High in Fayetteville, N.C. changed his commitment twice in the last three days. The last of those was Wednesday morning.
“I had to do what was best for me,” Allen said. “That’s what was on my mind. That is what came to me.”
It didn’t come to Allen until the last minute.
“I didn’t know until 10 minutes to 10 this morning,” said Wayne Inman, Allen’s coach. “His problems was he liked everybody. He didn’t see a coach or a team that he didn’t like.”
That led to confusion.
Allen held press conference Monday and said he was going to Georgia. After that press conference Allen said he did not decide he was going to Georgia until the very last minute.
But he still was thinking about Clemson.
“I was always thinking about them,” he said. “I felt comfortable there. Georgia was what I was thinking at that time. But Clemson just stayed with me and that is what I had to do.”
Allen talked with Georgia coach Mark Richt Wednesday morning.
“Coach Richt was a great guy,” Allen said. “It was tough to talk to him. But it was something I had to do. I had to do what I thought was best for me.”
What upset Inman was the way it was handled by Allen.
“I was very disappointed,” Inman said. “It bothers me the way it was all handled. I understand people are going to change their minds.”
But, Inman said, the timing of the entire situation basically held Georgia hostage and did not allow the Bulldogs to go out and find another player.
Richt declined to discuss it in depth and declined to address Dwayne Allen by his name. But he made several veiled references to Allen.
“Some guys made it difficult on themselves, their families and their coaches,” Richt said when asked about how players handled the process.
“These days nothing surprises you,” recruiting coordinator Rodney Garner. “My focus is on the kids that we got. These are the kids that belong here. These are the ones that we are excited about.”
Allen’s departure did cause a light slip in Georgia’s recruiting rankings. The Bulldogs finished No. 4 in Scout.com and ESPN. They were No. 6 in Rivals.
“I think I could have handled it differently,” Richt said of the Allen situation.
Georgia may hold that scholarship for next year’s class.
“I don’t think that we are going to have anybody commit anytime soon,” Richt said. “I don’t foresee that happening. It could. When all the dust settles there might be someone out there we have been interested in, I don’t know.”
The news Allen that had wed himself to Clemson became official at 10:51 a.m.
The 6-3, 220-pound tight end is a top 100 signee, according to ESPN.com. During his career at Terry Sanford Allen had 68 receptions for 1,257 yards. As a senior he had 27 catches for 291 yards and five touchdowns.

UGAY recruits and coaches are so stupid that in times of crisis, it is all they can do to keep them selves from reverting to licking their own asses, animal like. Hey stupid UGAY spy, decrypt this “FF UU”.

Maybe you can learn the definition of the word “commitment” while at Clemson. With Figgins and Ward on the depth chart it’s probably a good move on your part anyway.

Some kids are afraid to be in a winning environment like Ga’s. The pressure is too great, Mr. Allen will do fine in the ACC with his “Clemons” buddies. Meanwhile, the Dawgs will go forward on their march to the Title next year. It is not like we needed another tight end.

Profit is a f*. Say something original. Or better yet, please don’t. UGA’s recruiting class was affected VERY little by Allen’s defection. The only thing he did to hurt us was wait until the very last second to make his mind up. We could have landed Zebrie Sanders with that scholly. But don’t worry, UGA will still be the best team in the country for years to come. GT f* need to worry about their recruits and stop the jealousy of ours.

If your heart ain’t in Athens then you don’t need to be at UGA. I do not doubt that this young man did what was in his best interest. Since he is a four star recruit could it be he thought about whether or not he would play at UGA. The Dawgs got five star TE recruits who ain’t playing yet. Now Mr Allen can look forward to playing in Durham, Raleigh, Chapel Hill, Wake Forest, etc. instead of Athens, Baton Rouge, Jacksonville, Tuscaloosa, Knoxville, Auburn, etc. And, yeah, 57K don’t sound like 92K. A totally different stage. A totally different level of competition. And since when has Clemson played on Jan. 1 or after? Directions to Clemson: North and East to nowhere.

Allen who? Screw him. He did not handle this well, and his parents should have told him to shut up until he really made his mind up instead of holding a press conference every time he had a new thought ping around in his head. Clemson sucks and always will. So does the ACC. Even with this dork jerking us around, we end up #4. It is still good to be a Georgia Bulldawg, and the outstanding recruiting class of ‘08 can look forward to 4 years competing for the conference and national championships.
Profit, you are a loser & a coward. Zip your pants up and get a life.

DA is a DA. Name the last clemPson TE to go pro. Name him. clemPson is a second rate program that cant even win a division in the weak ACC. They think they are special but face it, they dont register on the national scale. When is the last time a team from clemson, sc was relevant? Have fun in the peach bowl DA. What a joke.

It’s pretty sad that UGA coaches publicly came out and had to bad-mouth this kid. You never saw a Clemson coach have anything negative to say when AJ pulled his switch last month. pretty fair pay-back if you ask me!

The funny thing is that when in the world would he play. Chandler has his senior year and behind him is Duke Ward and promising sophomore Bruce Figgens. We’re better off not seeing this tool play between the hedges because he’s not loyal to his word and obviously likes the attention which UGA doesn’t need.

Mr. Doggonegadawg,
Between the two schools, UGA & Clemson, which one has the most recent national title?
By G Dawg
February 6, 2008 6:32 PM | Link to this
Clemsonfan - Are you really going to pull that? Clemson won it the year after UGA won it. And it was a l-o-n-g time ago for both schools.
Used to hate Clemson, then they got Bowden and now their taking CMR’S boy. And we have something in common, we all hate Darth Visor and company..
If the kid is happier at Clemson - God bless him. But that doesn’t mean his team will be more successful.
If you compare the records since CMR got to Georgia… Well, there is not a lot to talk about. And we own the won-loss and whipped you the last two times we played.
We think the next few years look pretty bright. Good luck with your Tigers in a water downed ACC.

Clemsonfan: You cannot be serious. There is one year separating UGA and Clemson from the most recent National Championship. The real question is how many years in a row has Clemson finished in the top twenty-five? When was their last top ten team? When is the last time Clemson finished in the top five? Yeah, you don’t want to go there. That was a disgraceful come back. You need to go home and do your homework and then practice before you bring that kind of jargon to the table. And while you are at it research those factoids on UGA. Yes, that many years in a row!

Dwayne, I wish you all the luck in the world but feel your confusion is going to cost you in the long run. We all know that being a young man that lifes decisions are tough. It’s hard to understand how a young man has the opportunity to be a part of something special but chooses otherwise. Hope it is in you heart to be a Tiger because that is what you will be for the next four years. Now that you have made your decision there is something you will never have an opportunity to say and really mean it—-GO DAWGS!!!

Allen’s quotes were pretty awful on the ESPN recruiting chat. He says that he knew UGA had a great NFL TE tradition and he wanted to start that at Clemhole. Good luck with that. He goes on to say that he was told he would play right away at Clemsux where as he would have to work for a spot at UGA. Sounds to me like he has no work ethic and turns his back on his word as well as an over blown ego, should fit right in at Clempson.

Whoever Profit is, he really stuck to UGA and thats always a good day. Allen apparently decided to play in a great college conference instead of playing in a conference whose fans stay perpetually angry or drunk because its not the NFL. Allen had the sense to smell the DJ Shockley syndrome which is when you go to GA you get to play one year.

That boy doesn’t know where he wants to be, and I’m glad Richt wasn’t excusing him for not sticking to commitments. I don’t care how young he is, the young man knows the importance of this, and he is just a waffler. UGA is better without him, and I bet Richt wishes his son would have an option to change his mind.

I watched this kid in the workout competitions before the Under Armour allstar game. He appeared to have good hands but his size, 6’3 concerned me a little. Not exactly Leonard Pope, Chandler, Ward, Figgins in terms of height. I’m not too concerned about losing him as all the experts have questioned his blocking ability. What’s the story on Aron White? I haven’t heard him mentioned much lately?

Allen, get used to mediocracy and finishing third in your lower tier ACC division. You made a big mistake and you will see. Nothing your loser a* can do about it now. No big deal. UGA’s loaded at TE. But your selfishness cost someone deserving to not get the opportunity. Have fun losing at Clemson. You should fit in just fine with a bunch of underachievers. You’ll have fun in Atlanta if you’re lucky playing in the chicken nugget bowl.

As to the oft repeated “go NORTH and EAST to nowhere ” comment, clicked post 97 times, if he goes north and west, from Athens, he ends up In COLUMBIA, S.S. not Clemson, for “its” Dawg info, Clemson is NORTH by NorthWest from Athens….in the Foothills of the Blue Ridge, I guess he has the First Game of last season on his Dawg mind with his North and EAST comments, Straight to the Gamecocks ROOST … Lmao

First time reading a —what do you call it—a blog site. Felt great untill I read this, now I am depresed. Ponder the fact, that these people probably represent a cross section from this general area. What an abyss of wasted brain cells, and totally irrational thought patterns. I found God tonight, as I prayed that these people do not hold responsible jobs and can make decsions that might impact others. Well, my wife said that you were all just bored students sittig around drinking beer, gettig fat and living your dreams throuh your football teams. Oh well, I guess that’s ok,—-just do not ever get a job that requires insight, rational thought patterns, objectivity and the use of proper English. The future of the good old USA is in deep, deep, really deep SH%$. Just a suggestion, try a little “hand sex”——coupled with the beer— you will go to sleep and the fact that the guy changed his mind will not matter any more!

Lots of bitter UGA fans out there, and most of them are hypocrites. Love the rationalizations too, fave being “Allen would have been redshirted anyway.”
